Shirley Mullins Mosgrove, 82, formerly of Mayking, died August 26, at her home in Naples, Fla., after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Beefhide to the late Willard and Mary Stewart Mullins, she was a sister of the late Glenn Mullins, J.B. Mullins, Bobby Mullins, Stella Bates, Aileen Duncil and Lois Lane.
She attended Burdine Elementary School and Whitesburg High School. The Mosgroves moved to Naples, Fla., in 1993.
For a number of years, Mrs. Mosgrove and her husband Fernoy operated Fernoy’s Drive-In at Thornton with his mother, Sadie Mosgrove. The drive-in was well known for its hotdogs topped with Sadie Mosgrove’s secret recipe chili sauce.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Fernoy Mosgrove; two daughters, Deborah Hodson and husband Roy of Emmalena, and Teresa Mosgrove of Naples, Fla.; four grandsons, Caleb Hodson and wife Gabby of Stamford, Conn., Luke Hodson of Berea, Nate Hodson of Washington, D.C., and Ben Hodson and wife Sarah of Lexington, S.C.; and five great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at a future date at the Thornton Cemetery.
