The Silly Saints Clown Ministry and Feed The Lambs Ministry from Faith Trinity Pentecostal Church in Shelbyville, Ind., recently visited Letcher County. Freddie Terry, principal at Arlie Boggs Middle School, was the coordinator of events, and the group stayed at the ECCO Center in Eolia.

The clowns appeared on stage at the Mountain Heritage Festival on Sept. 22. On Sept. 23, they went to four schools, Arlie Boggs Middle School, Cowan Elementary, Martha Jane Potter Elementary and West Whitesburg Elementary School.

There were 14 clowns in all and six others who helped during the weekend. The group returned to the Mountain Heritage festival and passed out clown noses and flyers inviting people to the Feed The Lambs “free store” the following day.

The Silly Saints participated in the Mountain Heritage Parade and then went to Letcher County Central High School to do another show, which incorporated clowns and puppets. Following the show the group’s pastor, Perry Fouts, who is originally from Blackey, preached.

The clowns passed out full backpacks to each child and family care packs to each family while supplies lasted, and had drawings for bicycles. The attendees then shopped for clothes, sports equipment, shoes, toys and purses, all of which were free. Throughout the year several members of the group search garage sales and stores to get items for this event.
