This past week…

Friday night brought us visitors from Maine with a missionary group working with H.O.M.E.S., Inc. We also had visitors from 13 other states and three countries who had come for the Double All Day Singing that happened during the weekend. Hillivi was here from Finland and Zack from Sweden. The Country Troubadours supplied the music and the dancing was a given with such great dance tunes.

The Black Sheep Crew gathered at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning to begin cooking for the second day of singing and dinner on the ground. We built small fires outside and set up the tripods and cooking racks to hold skillets and Dutch ovens to enable us to do some of what we do best. We are fire cookers and it’s not easy in extreme hot weather. Our menu included the following: chicken and dumplings, crisp fried pork jowl, meal gravy, cornbread, corn on the cob, killed lettuce and onions, sliced tomatoes and onions, cucumbers sliced in vinegar, soup beans, fried potatoes, bread pudding, cake, and cookies. We ate so much we could barely sing but sing we did. Exuberant voices rang in the old building with songs like “Power in the Blood” and ended with a tearful “If We Never Meet Again This Side of Heaven.” All evening the singing went on. Singers came to sing and that’s just what we did. It doesn’t get any better than that. We are already looking forward to the singing next year.

Friday Nite Supper Club: There is a 30-minute break in between usually from 7:45- 8:15. The featured musicians play two 45-minute sets starting at 7:00 and ending at 9:00 p.m. and play a variety of genres. Aspiring musicians and veteran musicians are always welcome to show up and perform. It’s always fun to play or listen. There is no cover charge so it’s always a laidback easy crowd to play for. Come join us in supporting local live music by local singer/picker/songwriters while dining on good Black Sheep Brick Oven Bakery foods.

We decided to place our unsold bread outside in coolers on Saturday mornings for folks to take. It will be left on the outside stage until a more suitable arrangement can be made to dispense it. This preservative-free bread will not last long in this heat. We hope folks come and take it on Saturdays before it sits too long in the heat. It will keep almost a week at room temperature. It will feed the belly and feed the soul. If you are hungry show up early so you can get a loaf. We want you to have first pick.

Very Important Note: John Ng’s Four Seasons Martial Arts will be meeting henceforth till further notice to Sunday evenings 5 p.m. Master Frank Sexton, instructor.
