Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College was host recently to the “Selling to the World” exposition held on the Middlesboro campus. The two-day event was designed for small business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs and local craftsmen.
More than 150 participants took part in the event sponsored by SKCTC, Kentucky Highlands Investment Corp., East Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, Kentucky Small Business Development Center (SBDC), NACCE and Sam’s Club.
Among the topics taught were “Small Business 101” and “Creating a Winning Business Plan,” presented by Samuel Coleman of the SBDC.
The topics included retaining an attorney and an accountant, deciding the best legal structure for a business, developing a plan and the selection of a suitable name for one’s business.
In the business plan section of the discussion, he touched on background, market analysis and financial projections. Other topics discussed during the event included web design for small businesses, fulfillment with Amazon, tapping into export marketing, how to patent your product or idea, USDA food sales guidelines, basic bookkeeping for small business, and business law.
