SKCTC offering mining classes




The Kentucky Coal Academy, in conjunction with Workforce Solutions, will offer courses for those seeking careers in the coal industry. The courses are free with tuition and books paid for by the Coal Academy.

Courses to be offered during the fall term include: surface mine initial training, mine emergency technician, roof control and ventilation, shield metal arc welding, mining laws and foreman prep, electrical circuits and mining electricity, basic blueprint reading, fluid power (hydraulics), preventive maintenance and bulldozer operator.

Registration will be Thursday, Aug. 30, from 5-7 p.m. at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College campuses located at Cumberland, Harlan, Whitesburg and Middlesboro.
