SKCTC sets graduation ceremony

The awarding of degrees and diplomas for graduates of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College will be Friday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m. in the theater of the Edsel Godbey Appalachian Center on the campus at Cumberland.

The ceremony will mark the first mid-year graduation in the 47-year history of the college.

Approximately 45 graduates, representing each of SKCTC’s five campuses located in Harlan, Letcher and Bell counties, will take part in the event. The students completed degree require- ments in August and during the fall semester.

The commencement speaker is Dr. William H. Turner, a native of Lynch, who graduated from Southeast in 1965 before receiving advanced degrees from the University of Kentucky and Notre Dame University. Dr. Turner, an educator, author and administrator, currently serves as a professor of Appalachian Studies at Berea College.

A reception for graduates and their families will follow the service.
