The medical assisting program on the Whitesburg campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College has been approved for an additional three years. The program, led by faculty member April Fleming, is a three-semester schedule leading to a diploma. The program has been offered at Whitesburg since 2011.
The program prepares graduates to work in administrative offices, examining rooms and in physician’s office laboratories.
Classes during the first semester are taught Monday through Thursday. During the second semester of study, students attend class each day but do clinical work on Friday, as they must accumulate 60 hours in the setting. For the third and final semester, students attend clinicals three days each week with classroom work on Tuesday and Thursday.
