Whitesburg KY

Snow blankets area

We have been blanketed by a few February snows the last few days and as I write this we are predicted the biggest snow in 10 years, maybe 8-12 inches. And we may get it, it’s snowing hard at this writing.

A few February birthdays I remember are Lena Dixon, Harvey and Vicki Campbell, Alma Rose Blair, Joanne Adams, Barbara Doreen Madden. I think I forgot half the birthdays. Sorry.

Ila Adams’s family got together for a spaghetti dinner for her birthday. Lyndci and Sadie Gilliam came up from Morehead for her dinner and stayed a couple nights here visiting.

Another sad week throughout the area; Charlie and Effie Dixon Hatton lost a son, Matthew “Cark”, on Feb. 13. He was well loved by all who knew him and a large crowd came out to support his family and pay their respects at his service. Our hearts go out to his brothers and their families, who loved him so well.

Charlie and Effie and all the family have suffered a tragic and sudden loss of someone so dear to them. A lot of prayers have been said for them in their sorrow.

Blair Branch lost yet another fine lady with the death of Marie Banks Caudill, so well known and loved in the community. Regina and Lowell and their families will be so lost without her as will her nieces, Vicky and Stephanie. There was never a dull moment with Marie. She was a sight in a good way, and if you went by and she was on the porch she loved to holler and talk to you.

God bless all that are grieving.

The Letcher Area Homemakers met last Tuesday. We did Valentines for the nursing home patients, made upcoming plans and say “Happy Birthday” to February birthday friends.
