Snow causes slick roads, accidents

The snow and cold made for some very slick roads and wrecks. My nephew, Gary Fugate of Carcassonne, was on his way to work last Wednesday down Montgomery Creek and he slid and hit a cliff on the side of the mountain and did a lot of damage to his truck. It had to be towed because it can’t be driven now, but thankfully he was not hurt.

Sheila Walters of Blackey, wrecked in Whitesburg last Wednesday and had to be taken to the Pikeville Hospital She had surgery on her ankle.

My sister, Debbie, and I took Eric Back’s kids, Tiff, Zack and Cassie, down to see him. He is in St. Joseph Hospital and was not doing well at all. Dorse, Brandie and Sarah Back have been there with him since he was put in last Wednesday. They moved him to the floor where Hospice takes care of him. We went back down on Saturday and we were in the room when he died. It was so sad. It was really hard on all of us. His mother, Edna, died on the same day, Jan. 5, 1999.

Happy birthday to McKenzie Miller of Blackey. It’s on Jan. 10.

Sam Jones of Elk Creek, was on his way to work on Saturday when he hit a slick spot in front of Letcher School and went over the hill. He had a big cut on his head and it did a lot of damage to his truck. He was lucky he wasn’t hurt worse.
