Soup beans cooked over open fire

A couple of weekends ago all my family and some friends from Michigan went up to my dad P-nut’s cabin and he and my mom Jean made soup beans over an open fire. They also had mustard greens, fried ‘taters and cornbread. It was so good. We had a great time.

My grandbabies Kayde and Kami Tourangeau went back to Michigan with our friends to spend three weeks with family. We sure do miss them.

Got a lot of birthdays so happy birthday to my sister-in-law Mary Ann Morgan of Isom, it was on June 20; Mary Sue Pinyerd of Jeremiah, the 19; Jamie Johnson of Whitesburg June 20; Vada Rogers of Blackey, the 23rd; Mary Jane Back of Jeremiah, the 21st; Tina Madden Walters of Blackey, the 22nd; Roland Brown of Blackey, the 23rd, Tamara McKinney of Elk Creek turned 16 on June 23; Cassie Nicole Back of Perry County, daughter of Jessica Bowling and the late Eric Back of Elk Creek, on the 25th, and Kristen Griffie of Letcher on the 28th.

Happy anniversary to Roland Brown and his wife Ellen. It was their eighth on June 19.

Wesley Dixon of Elk Creek is home from the hospital. He had a hard time getting over pneumonia. This time he was in for about three weeks. He is the son of John and Jenny Dixon.

Happy birthday to Pauline Smith of Jeremiah. She turned 8 on June 25. She is the daughter of Keith and Laura Smith. They just recently moved over here on the mountain.

Happy birthday to Weston and Asher Vanderpool of Carcassonne. Weston turned 1 on the 23rd and his brother Asher turned 3 on the 23rd. They are the sons of Manuel and Amanda Vanderpool. The grandparents are Alan and Paula Vanderpool of Elk Creek, Debra Potter of Isom, and Brent and Teresa Potter of Tazewell, Tenn.

Dean Johnson of Jeremiah is in Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. He is not doing too well and is going be sent to Lexington soon and have some tests done to see if he is needing surgery. He has been in Letcher Manor Nursing Home for awhile now.

Andrew Allen Brady Reynolds celebrated his second birthday on June 21. He is the son of Jerry Adam and Marlana Reynolds of Isom. Paternal grandparents are Jerry Reynolds Jr. of Isom, and Regina and Mike Watkins of Raleigh, N.C., and maternal grandparents are Marty and Helen Engle of Carcassonne. Brady has an older sister, Annie, and a younger brother, Luke.

Happy anniversary to Bryan and April Thomas of Gordon. It was their fifth on June 23.

Emery Caudill of Carcassonne, is scheduled for shoulder surgery Wednesday in West Virginia. I hope everything goes okay for him.

My dad P-nut and Jimmy Bates went to Louisville on Thursday to a VFW convention. They came back on Sunday evening.
