Sparks rites held




Funeral services for the Reverend Jack Sparks, 66, were held November 5, at Letcher Funeral Home. Burial was in Haven of Rest Cemetery at Mayking.

A son of Esther Sparks of Whitesburg and the late Sylvester Sparks, he was a 1961 graduate of Whitesburg High School, and was graduated from Liberty Bible Institute in Lynchburg, Va.

He died on November 2.

He served as chaplain of the Whitesburg City Police Department, and was the founding pastor of Mountain Harvest Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife, Terriena Adams Sparks; two daughters, Wendy Hart and husband Stephen of Oak Grove, and Kathy Amburgey and husband Steve of Amherst, Va.; five grandchildren, Tyler Amburgey, Tanner Amburgey, Turner Amburgey, Hallie Hart, and Codie Hart; and two brothers, Gerald Sparks and wife Roxanne, of Merced, Calif., and Jim Sparks and wife Polly of Glasgow.
