Speak Your Piece

In addition to the telephone and the U.S. Mail, The Mountain Eagle accepts comments to Speak Your Piece by electronic mail. Our address is: mtneagle@bellsouth.net

Let my husband see his children and he may not be so far behind on his child support. Think about that and this is coming from a woman. I think a man ought to be able to see his children if they had to pay child support. If not, let them sign their rights away.

The recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico actually lowered our gas prices. Does this make any sense after what happened years ago? Are they feeling sorry for us? Maybe they should.

People are worried about what people think about what Ashley Judd thinks about mountaintop removal mining. It’s not about her. It’s about us, even though it does destroy some habitat. In the long run it creates a lot of habitat for elk, bear and such. And coal mining, the conventional way, it leaves nothing for us. The coal will still be gone. The resource won’t be there. There will be nothing for us or wildlife. At least with mountaintop removal you get something back. It could be a golf course or maybe a small airport or a racetrack or tourism or something to bring a few dollars in. With the regular mining, resources are gone, there is nothing left behind. Thank you.

It’s always good to see new jobs coming into Letcher County, and that’s something we haven’t seen much of recently. But as we celebrate the arrival of the Ferus liquid nitrogen plant, we need to think about what the natural gas wells are doing to our land. Everyone needs to watch the HBO documentary film, ‘Gaslands,’ which is airing now. The movie portrays several other states, which have already experienced the gas ‘boom’ we are having today. The film shows that the gas wells (and the ‘fracking’ process of fracturing the rock to free up the gas underground) contaminate well water, destroy streams and rivers, and kill fish and wildlife. The well water was so contaminated with gas that when cigarette lighters were held to the water faucets, the water exploded into flames! The natural gas wells are not regulated for safety. We local people may get a couple of thousand dollars for letting them put wells on our land, but our land won’t be worth anything if the gas destroys our drinking water. The pipes and pumping stations also release dangerous poisonous gases and other chemicals into the air and ground, and there is no regulation to control it. The rich gas corporations will get richer, and the mountain people will have no water to drink or clean air to breathe. The documentary ‘Gaslands’ will be showing again this Friday, July 9, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Monday, July 12, at 11:45 a.m. It should be required viewing for the Letcher County Fiscal Court, and all other local and state governing agencies. Watch the movie — it’s worth your time.

This is to the lady that made a comment in last week’s paper about the ugly ex-wife: Honey, we know who you are and we know who you are talking about. You need to wake up because you’re nothing but a 50-year-old hag. And you need to ask your husband who he was sleeping with right after he got married to you, because I am not surprised that you might get a real big surprise. And as far as the comments, she’s not making the comments, I am.

Hey gingerbread girl. What did you think about getting barred out of that room? I hope and pray this puts me on that bad side you said you had. See ya.

This is in reference to the lady who called in about the blue-eyed man in the green Jeep. I am his wife and I love him, too. I do thank you for the compliment, but it isn’t going to happen. I do know who you are. Just lie down and forget about it. I get lost in those blues eyes every night.

I didn’t realize what we meant to each other until now. Sometimes it takes tragedies, mistakes or even death to make us realize. We’ve had a hard time, but now we realize what we mean to each other. In a way it was worth it.

Well, I decided to go back to Florida for a couple of weeks on vacation. I love it there. We already have everything planned. I’m going to buy myself a new bathing suit. Guess what? My husband offered to buy me a new Escalade to drive for my birthday. I don’t know about that. I’m deciding. Bye.

This is to all law enforcement, state police, UNITE, Sheriff Danny Webb, Lt. Damron: Why are you all scared of the Blackey/Jeremiah drug dealers? Do we scare you? We can even sell drugs in your front yard to if we want to. Ha, ha, ha.

What’s the matter with you people still buying BP gas after all they have done to the environment? There are so many other gas stations that you can stop at that would appreciate your business. Why go to BP? Think about the wildlife that they have destroyed and our waters and our beaches. It’s a mess from the oil spill and they knew that rig was not fit to be drilling and they did it anyway. Try another gas station, please.

(Again, why punish people

who make their living
working at BP stations for
decisions made at the very
top of the corporation?)

This is to the lady that called in the piece about walking across the road to talk: You better see if your husband knows for sure that you are even calling Speak Your Piece. If he caught you doing stuff like this your hind end will be sitting flat alon, because he doesn’t do tricks like that. And as far as me knowing who you are, oh yeah I know who you are, and you better watch your corner ‘cause I could say some stuff that I don’t want to say. If you would quit being so nasty, pieces wouldn’t be put in Speak Your Piece. That’s the way I see it and I do believe in speaking whatever I have to say. I don’t have to go to Speak Your Piece to say it, I tell you right to your darn face and see how you like that. I bet your hind end would quarrel then. I’ll tell your husband first time I get a chance. I’ll show him the message that was put in Speak Your Piece.

This is to the person who made the comment about old women who bleach their hair: It is very clear that you are apparently dog ugly and you are just jealous of these women because why would you care what other people do in their own life?

Hey. You are a fat sissy. You wanted to ask anyone that wanted to talk to come across the road and talk. Let me tell you something, sissy. I don’t need to come across the road and talk. I’ll just walk up to you and knock the blank out of you. Now as far as talking I have nothing to say to people like you, not now, not ever.

I’d like to tell the people of Letcher County there is not equal justice for all. I’ll tell you a short tale. My stepson had a dog and the dog warden told him he had to put it up or he would pick it up in five days. I built a $1,200 electric fence to keep him from digging out and I abided by the law. But I have neighbors that turned their dogs out and I have called the county judge’s office time and time again and they won’t do a darn thing. The dogs poop on me. They come on my property. They growl and bark at me. They are destroying my property and nothing happens to them. I’d like for the people to know there is no such thing in Letcher County as equal justice for all.

Hey, gutter boy, don’t you know that baby little girl that you are raising isn’t yours? And also don’t you have enough sense from driving from one space to another that when you are drunk, you do get a DUI? Thanks.

This is to whoever put in Speak Your Piece about loving your mom and that everyone is wrong: I want you to know that my mom has never really done anything wrong. I do love my mom and I want my mom to know I love her. My mom’s name is Earlene Polly and she’s the best mom in the whole wide world. Thank you.

I would just like to congratulate the state for getting rid of the juvenile drug court coordinator. I think the ones that are left in drug court, they ought to be sent off too and get their 45 days like everyone else that is sent off . They aren’t any better than anyone else. They should spend their time, too. They did the crime, let them do their time. Thank you.

I love you with all my heart. You are my angel and my life. And I love you with all my heart and you are my angel and my life.

This is a good, Christian woman looking for a good, honest clean man between the age of 50 and 65 for companionship. If interested, please reply back in next week’s Speak Your Piece.

Please stop bleaching your hair when you get too old to notice the color of another person’s hair.

Thanks a lot, preacher man, for putting your phone number in the back of the church bulletin and telling people if they needed anything to call and then when we do, our calls are never answered or returned. I just wanted to tell you thank you. I appreciate that.

It took me 30 some years to find out why you told me that no one man could love you when I picked you up off the street. You could have been honest with me then, but I probably would have still loved you. I have loved you for 30 some years and will always love you.

I am ashamed of our Congress. They can go on vacation while people who are unemployed can’t even buy gas to go watch fireworks. They get a cut in pay. Why does Congress need $174,000 with free health insurance and free retirement? I am totally ashamed of Mitch McConnell. Everyone should vote against him. I have never voted for him. He is a joke. Our Congress is a joke. They need a pay cut because they do not do their job. They get to go on vacation while the rest of us have to sit at home.

Why don’t you shut up and stop making a fool out of yourself over somebody that thinks you are despicable and does not want you? Why can’t you go on with your life?

I’m calling concerned about somebody who is in critical condition. He is a veteran and has been over all the Legions and he has helped people get grants and money. He’s at every convention. He sits here day in and day out just wanting one phone call. Not a veteran calls him. He is in Neon. They all know who he is and he has done a lot for a lot of people. It is a shame that they can’t pick up the phone and say how are you doing, hope you get better. Even the pastors don’t come
