Speak Your Piece

Sheriff ’s office, we tried to tell you about Crystal Barlow driving around on drugs. No license. Drugs up her nose. Now she almost killed an old man. Quit letting them by with it. We tried to tell you about her. Told you so.

I’ve got a piece I would love to tell the women of Gordon. I thought I had a good man. He is well known and he turned out to be with an old slut. There’s nothing to her. There’s nothing to him. I thought I had a good man, who was raised in Gordon. Everybody knows him, but now he is gone and I hate him.

Mr. Terry Adams, candidate for magistrate in District Two, take some advice from an old political pro. Get rid of that speech you are currently making on radio. Come up with a new version. Tell us what you would do rather than what you think of your opponent.

Mr. Hubbard, if you really want to be district judge you need to quit using God to try to further your political career. God is not registered to vote. So don’t mix religion and politics. Do it on your own with God’s help in the background.

There’s a preacher at Haymond who always has his yard sale right in the church parking lot and stores his goods in the church basement. I bet if Jesus came along He would do this preacher the same way he did those people back there in His day. Turn their table down. Run them out. Tell them, ‘You have turned My Father’s house into a house of merchandise.’

Yes. I am calling because of an incident that I saw yesterday at the Family Dollar Store. I saw this young boy get out of a red truck and also saw a girl get out, which you could tell was his girlfriend. It was a really nice looking couple. My husband was in the store. I was sitting there in our vehicle waiting for my husband to come out. Then I saw this older man come out to this young boy’s truck and put under it what looked like to be spikes. You could tell the boy’s truck was new because the tires were new. And this man was putting these spikes under this boy’s tires. I thought that was a mean thing for someone to do to someone else that young. You know that boy couldn’t have all of this if he didn’t work. To pay for a truck like that he has to really work hard. My husband comes out and I am telling him what is going on and I want to see if this boy notices what is happening to his truck. My husband said that some other guy had seen it also and told the boy and described the man who had put the spikes under his tires. Anyway, the boy did come out and pick them up. I was glad he did. Tires cost so much. When you’ve got this old man trying to destroy what young people have and they are working hard for it. This man looked like he was laid back waiting to draw a check. I may be wrong. I feel sorry for this old man that he thought he had to cause so much trouble to flatten new tires. I appreciate that the man went in and told the boy. I was going to do it and I don’t even know these people. I hate to see something like that happen to anyone. That’s all I have to say and I do hope this is printed. So I hope everybody has a good day and God bless you.

She’s just like her mother – lies about everything. Her mom helps her jet out of jail so it is her mother’s fault. She should have left her in jail. That’s the problem with jail and everything. The law is on her side all the way. I bet my boots on that. That poor old man has to suff er for her crossing the center lane.

I have the best angel that the Lord has ever made, and I love her.

This message is for Coach Howard at Whitesburg Middle School and his staff . You know everybody loves the guy you have running the ball constantly, but there is more than one player on your team. Why don’t you give someone else a chance to run the ball?

Our club is dying. Get out and support your local Sons of the American Legion.

People, do you see what is happening in our country? The Republicans are doing everything they can do bring President Obama down no matter who it destroys, even if it leaves you homeless or hungry or whatever. Coal miners, if you work in coal mines long enough you are going to get black lung. You are breathing coal dust every day you are in the mines. This is a fact. There is no such thing as clean air in the mines. When you retire you will be coughing so bad you will be sitting up trying to sleep, if you live that long. If Republicans are in office neither you nor your family will get black lung compensation. Vote Democratic.

After watching Sarah Palin speak in Kentucky recently, where many of the thousands appeared to be on one scooter or the other, one of our country’s best young writers had this to say: ‘A hall full of elderly white people in Medicare-paid scooters, railing against government spending and imagining themselves revolutionaries as they cheer on the vicepresidential puppet handpicked by the GOP establishment. If there exists a better snapshot of everything the Tea Party represents, I can’t imagine it.’ Nobody explains the idiocy of the Tea Party than Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone magazine.

Dear Speak Your Piece: We need a Christian judge like James Hubbard who is only interested in the Bible.

You keep one thing in mind. I’m not asking for your forgiveness; I feel like I owe you.

Congratulations go out to the 19-0 LCCHS lady Cougars soccer team. Good luck in the upcoming district tournament at Jackson.

Let me tell you something, Blondie. You do not control Speak Your Piece. And you damn sure can’t, won’t and don’t control me. You have the same opportunity to call Speak Your Piece like anyone else. What is the matter? Don’t you have the guts? Watch your mouth.

I appreciate your call, ma’am, about the school board member riding a $40,000 Ford Expedition. And you are right, but the reason the people down in Frankfort won’t investigate is because they are riding in jet planes.

People are saying that The Mountain Eagle
has quit putting things in Speak Your Piece that people send in. They were wondering what’s the matter. They’re talking about it at Walmart that The
Mountain Eagle
has quit putting in things that people want to hear.

The importance of water really hit home this week when we went out to price a well and a septic system. Now the cost of it was between $10,000 and $15,000. Now, that’s a lot of money. So the next time we read anything in The Mountain
Eagle
concerning water we should take it as a blessing, because we know what the cost of a well would be. After the EPA gets its soil samples and gets its hand in the wallet it all comes out to between $10,000 and $15,000 for water.

Big Blue Madness down at UK is always a great event and all Cats fans, especially those of us who are serious diehards, always like to listen to it but once again it is going to be shown in-state only. It will be shown in Kentucky on Friday at 9, but for the rest of us it will be shown the next Monday on DirecTV (channel 646) for 2-1/2 hours. Now I don’t know what the deal is with Fox Sports South, but to have a high school game scheduled over the University of Kentucky Big Blue Madness makes you sit there and scratch your head about how Fox Sports South handles the rest of the SEC events. A taped delay at 7 p.m. the following Monday? Hmm.

I just want to say that I think the Childers family is being treated badly by having to pay out $500,000 over that spill. And you know people are forgetting that if it wasn’t for Childers Oil right now and fast food we wouldn’t have anything in Letcher County. And now they want to charge them outrageous amounts of money for that little spill? I know it affected many people, but my God. They did buy replacement water at the time. Their treatment is just not right. I don’t think it is right at all. I used to work for the Childers family, and I can say they will not ask you to do anything they wouldn’t do themselves. This I know to be a fact. They are good people, and if they shut down and leave here, we have had it. This county would be a ghost town. They are good employers who pay well. People, have a heart. Quit running them in the dirt. And let’s not stand and let them be made to pay a sum that is ridiculous. Paying a little is fine, but $500,000? It’s outrageous. It’s not right.

This is your sister, Jessica. I just wanted to tell you that I love you and I miss you. Keep your head up, we’ll get through this. I’m praying for you. I’m writing you a letter. I love you. I will try to come and see you as soon as I can. Mom says hello. So does your baby. I love you. Love, Jessica.

These people who talk about stopping mountaintop removal need to quit using Highway 23, going across Pine Mountain into Pound, Va. They need to take the dirt and put it back in the tunnel at Cumberland Gap. They need to put the hill back at Whitco. We need to put the bypass back at Whitesburg and where they graded off for their house, we need to level that back up. And the guy that said lights would stay on if coal was taken away, he is talking out of his rear because if we could do that it would have already been done. We cannot replace coal immediately. Maybe 50 years from now we’ll have some type of energy source that will replace coal, but as of right now we need coal mining. The good Lord gave us knowledge to do things. We need to use that knowledge and now we use large machines today to do it. When I see people talk like this it worries me because of the mentality they use. I can have my electricity. I can have all of the highways and roads, but don’t want to move anything. That is absolutely idiotic. And I’d love to debate WMMT’s Marcie Crim and her crew anytime on this type of project and any of these tree-hugging people that believe you can have this and not move dirt.

Before it is over your name will be known as scum. That is what everyone calls you behind your back anyway.

Since you know where I live, why don’t you be woman enough to say it to my face? I assure you that your threats mean nothing to me, you lying scumbag.

Well, today is Thursday. It’s going to be a beautiful day. It looks like we are going to have about a week’s worth of this. Lord, if you are listening, I thank you for this weather.

To Kevin Mullins: Have you ever cleaned your closet out? I don’t like the way you talk about the Hubbards. I’ve known Hubbard’s grandfather for years. My father used to trade groceries with him. He is a fine fellow. Clean out your own closet before you talk about James Hubbard. I know the background of James Hubbard and he is a fine man. In fact, you will never get a vote from my family.

The Letcher County government TV blacksmith show was great, and I learned a lot of good things. I would like to get a DVD of it so I could run it back and forth and study it more. Would that be possible? If anybody knows that, I would appreciate them putting it in Speak Your Piece. Anyway, I hope there are more blacksmith videos to come.

Dear Speak Your Piece: Is there anyone I can vote for other than Jim Ward? He is wasteful with the county’s money and Gerald Baker is not worth voting for.

I can’t wait to see a new magistrate in District Two, one that is not hateful to people and one that cares and respects everyone, one that has been taught to treat people like he likes to be treated. In November let’s get the best early Christmas present that anyone in District Two could ever have. Let’s elect Terry Adams as our new magistrate in District Two.

To all you people that live across Pine Mountain, in Oven Fork and other hardto get to places: Do you feel like you have been left out of things that have been going on in Letcher County? You have no say on nothing until election time, then here they come knocking on your doors asking for your votes. Let me tell you about a man I have known for years that will be your friend 365 days a year and not just once every four years. He is Gerald Baker and he is running for county judge/executive. He will fight to see that everyone is treated equally. He will do everything in his power to keep our school from closing at Arlie Boggs. He understands the danger for our kids coming and going across this dangerous mountain. He supports our coal miners. He’s got respect for our veterans, being one himself. He will see that our county workers get a raise, even the grass cutters. If you really want to see Letcher County grow and prosper for everyone, let’s give Letcher County back to the people who own it.

To a certain couple: Just how long can you live the sweet life? Your live-in boyfriend works and draws S.S.I. You draw welfare and food stamps. Talk about working the system.

Dear Speak Your Piece: I know the people of Letcher County are going to put Jim Ward back in office for another four years, but look at this. He has replaced the cover over the bridge at Golf Course Lane four times after people with big, high trucks like Asplundh and FedEx have knocked it down. That is stupid and costly to the people of Letcher County. No wonder they say we have the worst run state in the union. This proves it.

Hey. Look out. She’s single again.

Sheriff Danny Webb doesn’t have time to send deputies out to Cowan Elementary School, but he does have deputies who take those police cruisers home. We want to know if they are doing personal business while using them on taxpayers’ money and, if so, why is this possible?

To all the fat cats. Your time is getting shorter each passing day. Pass this message along, because unfortunately not everyone reads Speak Your Piece. Power to the people.

To the lawyer, paralegal, prosecutor, or just street Jon Doe who can quote from a library law book: This is for you on your statement to the wannabe lawyer. I have never wanted to be a lawyer or I now would be. It does not take a genius, only money from Daddy and Mommy to pay for college and law school, or simply enough money paid to the bar to buy your way in. Of course, you could be that great mind we all have been waiting for. I can read a book, have a real estate license, can fly four types of helicopters and three classes of airplanes, but have never had any inclination to be a lawyer. I prefer being an open-book criminal instead of a lowlife lawyer who robs some poor person at least 90% of their money when they are down and out and have to hire a legal thief. I am more of the type that think the lawyers gave the king in the Book of Esther bad information and made a calamity of everything with their advice more than 2000 years ago in 1:13-15, or tend to think that Shakespeare was onto something with his tribute to trail lawyers, ‘The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.’ I am not saying you are not an all-around great guy and wonderful man of the law yourself, but I could if I was a rat and wanted to start on your case myself. In my criminal activity of 25 years I have had four lawyers. The first snorted so much coke that when he came to trial he was sweating dollars, which cost me $5,000. The second was good and made my case plain and simple for a mere fee of $500, just to show he was not out to make the mighty dollar, as you are. The third was so bad that I had to get to a federal judge (now deceased) to get my own self a fair deal. The fourth charged me $47,000 to get three years prison time and thought I should have been singing. Lucky me. Rhinehart (you may have heard of him if you read ‘The Bluegrass Conspiracy’) was good, but never saved the day as you will. You can quote your KRS Statue all you want, but you still know that justice and law are two different things in Letcher County. Knott County led the way in corruption in legal matters and funding issues for decades, but now Letcher is in the lead. But it is my thinking that when a man calls you on the telephone and tells you he is coming to kill you, that it should be a plain attempted murder with forethought and malicious intent, as you well know yourself. You know the call was made prior to the shooting, and so will everyone else if this gets to trial. It is of no matter to me, because I would have been sitting inside the door with a shotgun waiting for the idiot to show up. Then there would have been self-defense, and no trial. This whole fiasco could have been ended with that. So, KRS quote boy, bite me.

Today is the 12th day of the month and I ‘m wondering where my privatized pension check is. I see no reason not to privatize Social Security. People learn that they shouldn’t expect their retirement check on a given day. My pension plan promised me faithfully my check on the 1st day of the month, which has never happened.

How is it that thousands of dollars in funds were stolen from the Whitesburg Housing Authority and no one on the housing authority board knows what happened to it? They appear to be extremely stupid for allowing that much money to be embezzled.

What happens after the track? For most racehorses their life is far from happiness. Sadly many racehorses are sent off to auction with a frightful future. When a horse does not do well in races they are discarded and sent to death just because they were not fast enough or couldn’t sire great racers. Not many people know that these speedy sweethearts can become great companions and exceptional competitors in a number of competitions. These horses have great speed and big hearts. These hardworking thoroughbreds, quarter horses and standardbreds are the most popular breeds to be sent to death after their racing careers. These breeds are hardworking and loving, and they deserve a better fate than this. There are many rescue groups for these horses that save them when they can, but there are too many for these people to handle. A better way to protect these gems of the equestrian world is make their racing owners, trainers and breeders think more about where these horses are going. They need to make sure the horses have chances to be adopted before going to auctions. Hopefully, one day race horses can leave the tracks knowing they are going to somewhere were they will be loved for the rest of their life. Maranda Haley, 15, Jenkins High School.

The county channel is turning into something you can watch and enjoy for awhile, because they seem to be mixing the meetings and speeches with things that are entertaining and show the crafts, traditions and history of a really interesting place. I liked the blacksmithing program and learned a lot. The videos of local scenery were great and should be used as promotions for tourism. Good job.

There are two social workers in Letcher County who think they are the district judge. They try to tell your parents and family members they can’t go to the courthouse with you when you try to get your kids back. What is wrong with these two certain social workers? Did they want to be cops but couldn’t pass the test?

How anyone who knows anything about their history could consider voting for James Wiley Craft, Jim Ward and several of the other candidates is beyond me. They have shown they can’t be trusted. How could they be taken seriously for such responsible positions? Letcher County citizens are good, kind, generous people. They deserve better.

If James Hubbard got elected as Letcher District Court judge could he preside over cases that involved men and their families that used to work for him and were not paid their wages? I was one of the ones he did not pay and have family members with cases pending in District Court. I truly don’t see how we as past employees could be judged by him without prejudice.
