President Obama, I don’t who care who controls the House. I don’t care who controls the Senate. I do care about jobs. Ninety-five thousand people last month lost jobs and you say the economy is growing. I’m tired of shaving with a dull razor. Let’s try to get some jobs. Try to have a nice day.
I watched Jack Conway this morning and had been aiming to vote for him for U.S. Senate, but when he referred to the drug problem in Kentucky he made the point every time to say eastern Kentucky. Do you mean to tell me that if I move down to Winchester or Lexington or Louisville, they don’t have drug problems? I don’t appreciate him singling us out every time. I know we’ve got drug problems, but we also have legal drug places in Pikeville, Williamson, W.Va., Hazard and Harlan. Why can’t we have a legal drug dealer here in Whitesburg like we have in all of these other places? Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
Kentuckians, please think before you vote on November 2. To people on Social Security and Medicare: Do you want to pay a $2,000 deductible for Medicare? Do you want Social Security to be privatized and turned over to an insurance company that operates on profits? Do you want to abolish all federal income and payroll taxes and everyone have to pay at least a 23% sales tax on everything you buy to replace it, when most of you currently pay no income tax? To the poor and lower middle class: Do you also want to pay the 23% sales tax when you currently pay little or no income tax due to your financial status? To young voters desiring to go to college: Do you want the Department of Education abolished? That would do away with federal funding for college financial aid. Can you afford to foot the entire bill on your own? To minorities: Do you think the Civil Rights Act is unconstitutional and that a privately owned place of business should be able to discriminate against you and refuse to serve you? If your answer is ‘yes’ to the above questions, then vote for Rand Paul for U.S. Senator. If your answer is ‘no,’ vote for Jack Conway.
I want to say a big hello to my Aunt Katie and Uncle Preach in Florida. Hope you are both doing well. My Birthday is coming up fast. Remember what I told you I want. I will be waiting. Love you both. Judy.
We have indicted drug dealer on Long Branch already back selling drugs before they have been to court for the first off ense. We need law enforcement to do their job and get this trash out of here. Get yourself up here, Danny Webb.
My wife and I have been going to a marriage counselor. Come to find out he had been married five times. Should we keep going to him? Give me your answer.
This is to the people of Jent Mountain-Bull Creek area: It has been voted on to look at your area for the county airport, not the Stamper’s Branch side. If you wish to voice an opinion on this the airport meetings are every fourth Monday at 6 p.m. at the Pine Mountain Grill. Is it legal to move the airport from one side to the other? What are the legalities of it? And does the money spent on the Stamper’s Branch side have to be paid back? My question is, what is going on? A gas well road has been made in the Stamper’s Branch airport area. Is the gas company pushing the airport out on the Stamper’s Branch side? Thank you, from a concerned citizen.
She made the front page of The Mountain Eagle,
didn’t she? You know who I am talking about. She’ll do it again. She gets away with everything. If she gets in a car and drives this way, the next victim may be a baby or a family. You need to get her and get her good. She is getting ready to get back out on the road.
I’d like to know why our elected officials in Frankfort are not joining all these other states to stop this new health care bill. I get the AARP magazine, and in it they say if you can’t afford health insurance you will be fined $400 and the best health care you can find anywhere for a family of four will cost $500 a month. So do our people in Frankfort think the people of Kentucky can afford to buy health insurance at those prices? They can’t pay the fine, either. Why don’t they join the other states in the fight against this new health care bill?
Did anyone else catch that the Jenkins schools scored a 30 percent out of a 100 percent? Thirty out of 100. This is flunking in a big time way. What can you do? Change the board members. Some have been on the board so long they think they can do whatever they want and the people will support them. Durward Narramore, Paul Stambaugh and Eileen Sanders, none one of you deserve another year and surely not four more years. Vote for Laura Revis and Bo Smith. Why did the Jenkins school board raise taxes when our school is being laughed at again for doing so bad? I guess to pay for the big trips for the board members to take and for the superintendent’s $100,000 salary.
Maybe griping about the black uniforms at Jenkins is petty, but the school is getting ready to celebrate its 100th year. What color will the teams be wearing if they chant ‘go big green’?
I saw a football coach out in the community wearing a shirt that had Jenkins written on the shirt, but the shirt was black with a white stripe down the side. All it needed was ‘Go big green’ in orange letters. School board members, are you listening?
Where was the slick talking principal from Jenkins who said last year that the test scores went up by 100 percent? I think she left because she realized the test scores were going to be so bad and they were and she really didn’t want tell the truth about last year’s progress. It would be hard to catch up to that story.
Jenkins school taxes have raised and they did it after knowing they were one of the bottom performing schools. Get those jokers off the board. Vote for Revis and Smith.
I want to get something off my chest that I have had on my chest for the last six months or so. I have a certain friend of mine who I do care more than anything about that lives on Blair Branch. We used to run around and go hunting and stuff . Well, I called him up today and his wife picked up the phone. She sounded agitated. Then all of a sudden she starts jumping on me for reasons unknown. Well, let me tell you something, honey. I have been going to church for the last three years and I have been paying every day for my sins I have committed in the past. It doesn’t give you the right to start jumping down my throat because I called to ask to talk to your husband. People go around judging people for what they have done in the past. People ought to look to the future. I talked to your husband last year at a Letcher ballgame. We were on speaking terms at that time and were still good friends with one another. You don’t want us to be friends for some reason or another. Apparently you listen to everyone else spread the same old lies and same old rumors about my family. Let me tell you something, lady, what you hear isn’t the truth. Me and your husband are friends and we will always be friends. You can’t break anybody up for who we want to be friends with because it says in the Bible don’t be judging others, judge yourself. What is it? Are you jealous of me or something?
I was in Blackey for Blackey Day and it was real nice, but there was nobody to direct traffic. The constable didn’t even show up to do anything, but is always anxious to get that constable check. I don’t think that is right to treat people like that. Then they’ll turn around and vote for him.
The only way evil can prevail is for the good to do nothing. To all citizens in Letcher County: Election Day is just around the corner, so I pray that you all are registered to vote. It is our time to speak, not just to speak but to be heard, so don’t think that just one voice can’t make a diff erence. One voice added to many other voices can make a loud shout, so please read up on our candidates. Form your own opinion as to who is right for the job. Don’t listen to just everyone else’s opinion on who they will vote for. If you do, then you won’t have a voice at all. Take into consideration what is going on. Know the truth about what they stand for and know who is afraid of big businesses or who is afraid of people. Common folks who want what is right, good and just. Look at our land.
What has happened to our youth and young adults? I cry every time I see someone hooked on drugs. They become zombies like we used to watch on ’Night of the Living Dead.’ They have no rational mind to think for themselves. They are bloodsuckers sucking the lives from our families and also from our communities, doing anything to get drugs. I know everyone here has experienced this problem. We are all to blame, from the least to the most influential person here. How many are to die from overdoses and how many are to be killed in accidents from drugs? How many moms are sitting back waiting for something to solve this epidemic? I don’t have to say go to the courthouse and see how many drug-related cases there are. Go to social services. See how many children are to be placed in foster homes. It has gone too far and if we, the people, don’t have anyone to stand up for us, then we will stand up for ourselves. See, there are strengths in numbers, not dollar signs. You might say the pharmaceutical companies have too much money. They pay off anyone who might oppose them, even our government. Well, love is stronger than money — love for our children, our community, our land and hope and faith in our God and moral upbringing to do good unto others. Well, we have seen a small dent in the pharmaceutical companies. People are bringing lawsuits against them for drugs that have resulted in harmful or fatal effects to the body. People, don’t you all understand they lie and lie and lie? Anyone with a small brain can see the deceptions. Let’s expose them even more if we ever can reach those who have been affected by those habit-forming drugs. Stand up and fight. I know we can stop this. Yes, we can bring a lawsuit against them and yes they have enough money to pay out. We don’t want their money. Money isn’t the answer to everything. We just want it stopped. Stop making such drugs that are so addictive. Those who use them would do anything to get them and, believe me, the pharmaceutical companies knew this all the time. Love and peace and family are what God almighty wants us to have, not hate and war and being alone. The drug addict feels alone because no one can stand their lifestyle or should I say death style. Look around and see them and find the old movie ’Night of the Living Dead’. Then stand up for our land and our families and our communities. So let’s find someone who will not be afraid of the big, bad pharmaceutical companies and will help us. Let’s not sit around and let evil prevail. Let us good and upright citizens do something to stop this madness.
People of Letcher County, take a look around you. Are you better off than you were four years ago? The answer is no. This fiscal court has wasted all the county money to the point they can’t even give the county workers a 25-cent raise. Ward has put his name on garbage trucks and just about everything the county owns. Do you know who has to pay for all of this nonsense? Us taxpayers. Did you notice how your taxes were raised? They tried to blame it on Frankfort. You haven’t seen anything yet. If they get elected again this building they are talking about in Whitesburg will never do most of the people in Letcher County any good. This is millions of dollars wasted. We could have used some of this money to give our county workers a raise. These riding trails they are talking about won’t do any good. You can only ride when they say to. Mark this down, more money wasted. This new airport they are talking about and trying to take credit for was already in progress before they came into office. If you really want to see Letcher County grow, vote for someone who will be your friend 365 days a year. I ask you to vote for my good friend and yours, Gerald Baker for judge/ executive.
This is to the person who left a comment in last week’s paper about the live-in boyfriend who works and draws S.S.I. while the girlfriend draws welfare and food stamps: Yes, he does work and draw S.S.I. and yes, I do draw food stamps but I have never gotten welfare. And what is it any of your business anyway?
I’m not your neighbor. I just happen to have the misfortune to live by you. And in the second place, it is a public road and if I see someone come up the road I will look anytime I want to. So what if you don’t like it.
Do you know it is not nice to talk about elders? The reason he picks up pop cans and cigarette butts is because he has enough respect to keep it clean, unlike you. You are the sorry person that probably threw it on the ground. Maybe we should put Duct tape on your mouth so you won’t talk bad about people. Everyone has faults, just like you for calling in about the elderly.
I was reading Speak Your Piece and something came to mind. If you are going to say somebody is a rat in Speak Your Piece, please give us a name so we know who it is. Second, if you have a drug dealer in your neighborhood, you could at least give us the name and address of the drug dealer. Then you won’t have a drug dealer anymore because we’ll buy them out.
The Jenkins board has paid for the superintendent to have a consultant and assistant for three years. If she is supposed to be so good and know so much, why have the taxpayers paid this bozo guy $600 a day to help her for four years? If the bozo guy knows so much, why is the district doing so bad? Come on, voters, get the board members changed. The children of Jenkins deserve new board members. Maybe they are good people but look at the facts. Scores are down. Teachers are discouraged. Students hate school. We have to do something diff erent. Go out and vote and let’s try some new people, this time.
Can The Mountain Eagle
please tell the citizens of Jenkins what the new tax hike is and what it is going to be used for and what date was that changed? Was that made already knowing the test scores?
To my neighbors across the road: Shut that driveway and then tell me I cannot get anything done. Have you noticed a difference in my driveway? Did you know how I got it done? So the joke is on you Papa Smurf and blondie. Good day.
This is in rebuttal to the rebuttal concerning Archie Banks, magistrate in District Two, and the grass cutter who fought for this country: Archie did not tell the man who cuts grass to sit down because he was being rude or arrogant. He was asked to sit down because he was discussing an item which was not on the agenda. After various explanations he continued to consume more and more time at the fiscal court meeting. So this was the proper way to handle the situation at the time. I should know. I was there. And by the way, to the person who called in regard to this matter: Did you notice how disrespectful you were? Read your own Speak Your Piece and then explain that to me. Thank you very much. This is to clear the point.
I live on Bill Moore Branch. I had a gentleman by the name of James Hubbard come by campaigning for District Court judge. So far the rest of them have not been up my hollow talking to me. If anyone and everyone that will find it in their hearts in the name of justice, which I think Mr. Hubbard is for, I want you to vote for Mr. James A. Hubbard. He’s the man that will get the job done. I thank every one of you.
To the voters of Letcher County: Do not be gullible about promises made concerning the upcoming election. A lot have advertisements and messages and letters are going around. I encourage you to cast your vote for Kevin Mullins for District Judge. He has an open door policy and is willing to listen to the problem. You will be treated fairly, respectfully and equally. He is knowledgeable about the law and will not violate the law. The phone calls are answered professionally and messages are returned. Let’s keep Kevin Mullins as Letcher District Judge. Remember to cast your vote.
Thanks to the people who cut down my pumpkin patch and thanks to the two thieves who stole the two biggest pumpkins my kids helped raise. They’ve still got pumpkins for Halloween.
I would not recommend a certain hotel in Whitesburg to anybody. All the rooms are nasty and run down. They stink. I would not recommend it to anybody.
This is to a certain man at Isom: You got caught. Take your punishment. Don’t blame other people and don’t tell lies on other people. Stand up and be a man. Leave other people alone. Don’t make threats. Be a man.
I drove through downtown Whitesburg last week, which is not something I do very often. So I was very nicely surprised to see that downtown Whitesburg looked the best that I could ever remember, with all the beautiful flags hanging from the poles and the ‘flowerpot people’ everywhere. It’s just really, really nice looking. They need to keep up the good work.
Several times Rand Paul has suggested a $2,000 deductible for Medicare. Now he is trying to back pedal from that proposal. He supported replacing the federal income tax with a 23 percent sales tax on everything we buy, including groceries. Obviously this would hit low-income families the hardest. Now he is waffl ing on that idea as well. Why would anybody from eastern Kentucky vote for Rand Paul? He doesn’t believe the federal government should even be involved in Social Security or Medicare. He doesn’t call for abolishing either program since we have made commitments, but he is already calling for scaling back benefits. He thinks we should raise the age for Social Security benefits to 70. He clearly would not fight to keep Social Security or Medicare strong and viable programs. When Republicans say Social Security will be broke in a few years, what they mean is that in a few years Social Security will be collecting less than they are paying out. But that disregards the more than 30 years that Social Security has taken in more than it has paid in benefits. Republicans want to ignore that and make Social Security pay for itself year to year. That is our money they took out of our paychecks for our Social Security benefits. Republicans in general and Rand Paul in particular are not looking out for the interests of working people’s benefits.
Trick or t re at? Dur ing the last week of October, countless parents will dress their children in bizarre costumes that portray ghouls, goblins, witches and devils, and then lead them from house to house where they will encourage them to boldly proclaim those infamous words, ‘trick or treat.’ Many of those same parents will then permit their children to watch blood and gore horror films that contain coarse language, graphic violence and nudity. Still others will take their children to haunted houses where they will be subjected to on-stage visual portrayals of gruesome acts of violence committed by demonic characters and creatures. All of the aforementioned festivities clearly give glory to the dark things of this world, which leads us to an allimportant question: Should Christians be celebrating Halloween? The Bible exhorts the Christian parent to ‘Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’ – Proverbs 22:6 KJV. It is therefore the Christian parent’s duty to teach their child or children to ‘Prove all things; hold fast to that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.’ – I Thessalonians 5:21,22 KJV. As born again Christians, when God brings us to the knowledge of the truth, He then exhorts us to do what we know is right. And it is here we find the definition of sin. ‘Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.’ – James 4:17 KJV. For this reason I boldly proclaim the truth: Christians should not be celebrating Halloween. So, what should Christians be doing at Halloween? ‘Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.’ – Ephesians 5:10,11 KJV. ‘Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.’ – St. Matthew 5:16 KJV. In other words, God is exhorting His children to be a light that shines in a dark place. Christians should separate themselves from Halloween, that lost souls will see something better in them than that which they now see in the world. Our Lord clearly exhorts His children to rebuke Halloween, but wants us to realize that our true battle is not against those who celebrate it, but rather the evil that is behind it. ‘For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.’ – Ephesians 6:12 KJV. I beseech those of you who are Christians and are planning to celebrate Halloween, before upholding this unholy celebration and then criticizing those now speaking out against it please consider the words spoken by the prophet Isaiah 5:20 KJV, ‘Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.’ By far, some of the most frightening and disturbing images that will be seen during the last week of October will be those Christians using the House of God to house a celebration that gives glory to the ruler of darkness himself — Satan. To all you Christians out there who believe that this celebration is a treat unto our youth: The truth of the matter is, you are getting tricked by Halloween.

she dressed up in costume one

I’m trying to contact a man named Kelly but haven’t had any luck. I spoke to him on the phone once, but I’m shy and didn’t approach the situation again. Kelly told me he lived near the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom. Kelly, if you haven’t found anyone I’d like to meet you. You said you had a little girl. You can write me at: T.A.M., Box 311, Neon, KY 41840.
I am an inmate at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex. I just want to speak my piece on the prison system here in Kentucky. The prisons are way overcrowded, mostly because of people with 85 percent violent crimes. If they don’t drop the parole eligible dates from the 85 percent to somewhere around 65 percent, there will be no room in any prisons. The only inmates that should do the 85 percent are the sex off enders, which make up over three quarters of L.L.C.C. They even try to make you live with them. I was put in a cell with a man who raped his 10-year-old niece. It’s like the prison systems try to provoke you into getting more time, because I wasn’t living with a child molester. Whoever runs these correctional complexes across the state really needs to adjust their sentencing guidelines before someone like myself with a robbery, first charge, takes my anger out on all these child molesters and rapists that surround me every day. So good luck and good night.
Hey monkey face. I’m still waiting for you to confront me. When you stop hiding behind Speak Your Piece, I’ll be waiting, coward. Oh, you should be ashamed to use that language and go to church. You show what the word hypocrite means. I wish you’d try to shut my mouth. You don’t have the guts to do it, you lying scumbag.
You people in Caudilltown had better stop parking in front of the mailboxes. It’s really getting old having to dodge vehicles to get our mail. Don’t you know it’s a federal off ense to block mail delivery? By the way, the Cubs suck.
I do not vote for Democrats because of their agenda. I do not vote for people who are for abortion, or for trying to force the homosexual lifestyle on the American people. We all know the Democratic Party is for destroying our nation. I am not going to vote for them, as I do not want to be a partaker in their ungodly laws. Years ago I was a Democrat, but I changed parties because they became so corrupt. Also, I would like to say to the Republican Party: You need to get your act together and get some backbone to stand for what is right and stop being cowards. We need men in office who will stand for the American people when they are elected. The American people have spoken across our nation by voting against the homosexual agenda being forced on us by ungodly politicians. We are a nation by the people and for the people, so you need to get it right. The Democrats are for destroying our nation, and now if you Republicans don’t do something about it, then we, the American people, will need to vote in a third party to stop our nation from being destroyed by ungodly men.
(Have you ever heard of
Ken Mehlman, President
Bush’s campaign manager in
2004 and a former chairman of
the Republican National Committee?
How about Edward
Lee ‘Ed’ Schrock, a former
member of the U.S. House of
Representatives from Virginia?
Do the names of former U.S.
Rep. Mark Foley, evangelist
Ted Haggard, or former U.S.
Senator Larry Craig ring a bell?
All five men are homosexual
Republicans who were saying
basically the same thing you’re
saying here until the public
learned they are gay. Doesn’t
this mean the Republican
Party is also, as you say, ‘for
destroying our nation’?)
I’m disappointed in the LCC boys’ football book. The comment I had with my son’s picture was not like it was supposed to be; it was changed. I heard there were others. One boy didn’t have any text by his name; they didn’t even add it. There were some who didn’t even get a chance to have their picture in there, but some got a second chance. I think that’s low, and they don’t even care.
When I see a coal miner on TV speaking for coal miners and the speaker is wearing a white mining cap, it annoys me. White caps are a symbol of being supervisors or bosses. Do they not know any black cap (real) coal miners who should be given a voice? Management runs the coal mines and supervisors are allowed to speak in the media representing themselves as coal miners’ voices.
Voters of Letcher County, let me ask you something. Why do so many of you vote Republican? I’m asking this in all honesty. I’m not looking for the standard flip (and often profane) answer, because that tells me nothing except that you don’t really know yourselves. I ask this of people I know all the time and either I get profanity spewed toward me, called names, or something that makes entirely no sense. Do you really know what your party stands for? Do you know its policies? Do you realize your party tells you that it stands for you and your rights while at the same time always siding with the big corporations against your best interests? The Republican Party is really the ‘Corporation Party’. The Republicans in Congress always vote against you, whether it is to extend unemployment benefits, or trying to make health care affordable to you, or keeping your future Social Security out of the hands of private insurance companies so they can invest it in a volatile stock market. They vote against you. How are they your friend if they don’t care if you have unemployment benefits, or care that you can’t afford to go to the doctor or buy your child’s medicine, or are willing to gamble your Social Security away in the stock market, or to take away your children’s financial aid to go to college so they can compete for a good job by doing away with the Department of Education? For me, it is just so simple. Republicans are against me; Democrats are for me. I’m not saying that Democrats are perfect. They have some faults, too, but at least they don’t vote against me and my family at every turn. Rand Paul = against me. Jack Conway = for me.
How many families besides mine have suff ered because of James Hubbard’s inability to control his desire to become wealthy through Hubb Coal Company at the expense of anyone or any thing? Folks, I really believe that God will not allow himself to be used as a political ploy by anyone. My God is a loving God. He is a forgiving God, a just God, a compassionate God. My God is God of all Heaven and Earth, but my God is not nor ever will be a politician. No man need tell another that he is a Christian. Everyone should be able to see God in your daily life and know from which you come and to where you seek. Hell will have many self-proclaimed saints. I think I know a few.
People talk about downsizing government jobs and being against big government. In Pikeville they are going to lay off 14 workers at the post office and the 14 jobs are going to West Virginia where Jay Rockefeller believes in big government. Aren’t government jobs better than unemployment? I know conservatives are opposed to building roads and working on bridges and are for letting the country fall apart.
