I live on KY 932. My neighbor had a good man. She says she is sick. Why would someone sick break up her family? I know she had a good man. I worked with him. This destroys kids. What is wrong with people today?

.

I think it is pitiful that you all are still running and doing dope. You have lost your kids. You live on Elk Creek. You are losing everything you have. It seems to me that you all would stop and would try to get your children back. Your little boys aren’t going to know who you are. You are losing everything you have. You all need to get a hold of yourselves. We are worried about you. You have lost your job. You can’t work. Get a life. Get your kids back and stop doing drugs. You are going down the road of destruction and we can’t protect you any longer. If you don’t get help yourselves, somebody is going to have to see about getting you both some help. If someone doesn’t start helping, then we are going to help.

I was raised in a coal mining family, being the granddaughter, daughter, and wife a coal miner. Live has always been rough. There are good times and bad. In the older days, life was what you could raise and put up for the winter. My husband and I still do that to supplement our food budget. Years past Christmas consisted of a live tree cut down in the pasture and almost always too big to get into the house, making gingerbread, sleigh riding down the hill at my house, drinking cocoa, eating and stringing popcorn, and gathering on Christmas eve for a hug dinner and almost no presents at all, maybe paper dolls, a toy gun, or socks, gloves and underwear. The ladies normally got dishtowels or an apron. Everyone loved it. Tonight, I am alone at home starting to prepare for a wonderful day. He works so hard but never complains. The places on his back from the roof bolts, the injuries from the past, the pain from stooping over all day and working in mud and water, he never complains about. I hope all the underground miners in Letcher County and their families had the merriest Christmas. All the love and appreciation to you for making our lives better every day you go to work. Special wishes to Greg Anderson, my husband and lifelong love, and the crew at Access One at Deane, their wives, families and children. Best wishes also to Shade Anderson, father of Greg Anderson, Harvey Caudill, grandfather of Diane Anderson, Arnold Watson, father of Diane Anderson, and all the fallen miners from years gone by whose families have had to have Christmas with them only in their hearts. Diane.

I’m calling about Marlow’s Christmas giveaway. I want to know what happened there. People donated money and there were supposed to be new toys there as well as used toys. Come Sunday, the only things left were used toys and used clothes. I want to know what happened to the things I donated that were brand new. Something should be done about what happened. Money was given. New things were given. This was supposed to be for the people of Letcher County who couldn’t afford Christmas for their kids.

I get so sick of looking at Facebook and seeing people asking others to pray for total strangers. And the replies, ‘prayers going up now,’ are just ridiculous. Do you really think you are accomplishing anything by this gross public display of religion? Jesus said, ‘Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you. When you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the Gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. So pray this way.’

I was calling about the comment I saw in Speak Your Piece about the boy coming off the court at the rec center with the two black eyes and swollen face. The editor asked it could be from an unintentional elbow. It wasn’t from an unintentional elbow. It was from a 17-year-old who got mad when a 14-year-old beat him in basketball and punched the younger boy in the face twice. I’m just letting you know.

(If what you say is true, then the 17-year-old needs to be banned for a long period. Did you report the incident to a staff member?)

.

To the love of my life: You will never understand how much I miss you, especially at Christmas. I am ready for a huge lifetime change. I love you and I miss you so much. It is going to be the hardest holiday season without you.

The neighborhood has a power pole that is blazing at times and smoking at all times. They called 911 and 911 sent the fire department over instead of the power company. You can see the pole from the road if you are looking and it took them 45 minutes to get there. If it was a house on fire, it would have burned to the ground. Somebody is going to have to get on the ball.

.

To the lady who drives a Jeep: I am a very close friend of yours and have noticed people making comments in Speak Your Piece about you. I agree with them. You do choose men over your children all the time. You need to get yourself together and get your kids back.

(Did you ever hear the old saying, ‘With friends like you …’?)

There is nothing wrong with people on the draw getting a raise. What is wrong is when they get a raise and the working people don’t. And they talk about the working people how they work and they do nothing themselves many times. I’m not talking about older folks who deserve more than what they get a lot of the time. A lot of young folks who are on the draw criticize the working people and they have better health insurance and better money than the working people have.

.

I think it is a shame that Marlow Tackett gives to the greedy and takes from the needy and says he is a man of God. You can’t be a man of God and mistreat the poor people. I think he needs to check himself.

.

I’m a senior citizen and I have children who attended high school at Whitesburg and I don’t have any grandchildren in school. The school system doesn’t wait for parents and children to express opinions; they already have their decisions made. With the computers and everything they have at the schools, the school offi cials think the children are learning a lot. Some of the children can’t write or read and just play on the computers. In the next 10 years there won’t be such a thing as a public school because you will be able to get your education on a computer. So why should they even have these hen and rooster parties when they are just going to do what they want to do? Computers are the devil and children better stay off them.

.

To a certain person: First you said I aimed the gun at your brother. Then you said I aimed the gun at myself to commit suicide. Now you are saying that I aimed it at you. Why don’t you get your story straight? That would be real nice.

.

There was no garbage pickup on Friday, Dec. 23, or Monday, Dec. 26, and again on New Year’s weekend. No pickup on Friday, Dec. 30, or Monday, Jan. 1. What a job. I wish I had it. We have lots of garbage and we will have more garbage coming out the kazoo by then. What do we do with it? Anybody want it?

.

Mr. Jim Ward, I got your Christmas card in the mail and you have a beautiful family. I am envious of you. They are beautiful. I appreciate you. You’ve got it going for yourself, hoss.

.

Everybody knows that Grandma and her daughter have such a bad name that Grandma has to sell her home and move away from here.

.

Now I understand you are way older than me, so quit texting me or I’m calling the cops. From your secret admirer.

. I think what Marlow Tackett and his helpers have done in Letcher County this year has been wonderful. Thanks to Marlow and the people who support his efforts, many people have been able to celebrate Christmas who would have had to struggle to make it through the season. On the other hand, I have been struck by the number of $30,000-plus relatively new vehicles parked in the west end of the Wal-Mart lot who were stocking up on freebies at Marlow’s outreach site. The expectation of entitlement runs deep in eastern Kentucky and many people who can afford to pay for their presents or school supplies take advantage of outreach programs like Marlow’s or the Kids Day program when they don’t need to. These programs are for people who can’t afford to buy these things for their children, not for people who decided to splurge on a new car or a widescreen and just want to take advantage of free stuff. I think it is disgusting that people who have the money are willing to sponge off these projects just because they are there. They should be ashamed.

.

You know what a moron is? It is somebody who does the same thing over and over again hoping for a different outcome. That is also obsessive-compulsive behavior.

To all who live in Neon, McRoberts and the surrounding areas: There is a four-wheeler thief among you. I am not going to say any names, they know who they are. Even their parents know who they are. The parents know that they stole my four-wheeler and they are upholding them. They know where it is and they think they are going to get away with it, but I have someone up high saying they won’t. If anyone knows or has seen this four-wheeler, please call the police. They have the VIN number in the computer, so if anyone buys it, you will be in trouble too. If anyone has seen my four-wheeler, it is a Honda Ranger, green with a brown seat, and it has markings on it, but I will not say what or where. So if you think this could be mine, please call the police. To the parents of the boys: you are wrong by letting them do the things they do, and you know about it and won’t do anything about it, so you are as guilty as they are. What if someone or maybe your own boys steal from you? You wouldn’t like it. So if anyone has any information about this four-wheeler, call the police. Thank you.
