Anthony ‘Big Cat’ Davis and the fabulous freshmen have won another NCAA championship for the University of Kentucky.

(With much help from fabulous senior Darius Miller and fabulous sophomores Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb.)

.

To a certain person: There is not enough time and not enough words for me to tell you how much I love you. You are my angel.

.

I’m the guy from Johnson’s Fork that the drug dealer from Owens’s Branch hates and I would just like to let two guys know that if they don’t leave my family alone, I will make it my last dying effort to make sure they at least spend 10 years in prison.

.

How can a certain woman say that she is so ugly when she puts her glamour shot photos on Facebook to advertise herself?

.

To the one who said the guy in the red Ford coupe was getting married: That is just a big lie.

.

I read Speak Your Piece often, but I have never been prompted to contact The Mountain Eagle until now. It seems that a local college, Alice Lloyd College, is not what they appear to be. Being a student there, I see all kinds of discrepancies. First of all, they tell you that you have to do work-study. I see people all the time who are 50 to 60 hours behind on their work-study; nothing is done or said about it. Second, they tell you that you can’t use alcohol. I am here to tell you that Thursdays are called ‘Thirsty Thursdays’ because many kids go out and get bombed on Thursday nights; again nothing is done or said about it. Last, they tell you the academics are held to a high standard, but I see kids who don’t go to class and are failing out left and right. Yet, the next semester these deadbeats are right back on campus causing problems and not going to class. I wonder if the administration at ALC is just blind, stupid, or just doesn’t care about anything but the numbers.

.

I was riding through Whitesburg the other day and noticed this sign that said a certain number of people are grouchy. The grouches don’t live in Whitesburg anymore. They have moved to Craft’s Colly.

.

I want to wish my son, James Wilder, a happy 17th birthday on April 5. Love, Mom and Dad.

.

This is to anybody who has or has had a family member incarcerated in the Letcher County Jail: I think it is time that people need a new jailer and get rid of Don McCall and his whole staff. They turn the air on at night and freeze people to death. They treat them like they aren’t humans. The people who are in there don’t get their medicine when they are supposed to get it. Treat people fairly until they are proven guilty. I always thought you were innocent until proven guilty. Anybody who would like to start a petition to get Don McCall and his staff out of office, get one started up or let me know how to do it in next week’s Speak Your Piece. Let’s get people signing that and get rid of some of these officials. Actually, the whole courthouse needs to be cleaned out.

(You can start all the petitions you want, but you’ll just be wasting your time. Only 19 states allow for the recall of officials, and Kentucky is not one of them.)

.

To a certain person: You know you can always call me at work after 1 p. m. Please call me.

.

It looks like AEP is asking residents of Letcher and other Appalachian counties to pay a tax to support the coal industry again. Because AEP didn’t install scrubbers when it was mandated by law, and because the Bush administration neglected to enforce any environmental or workplace safety laws they weren’t absolutely forced to enforce, AEP skated and got by without doing what was right. Now they want to appeal to the job fears created by the coal industry to get the Public Service Commission to raise rates so they can install scrubbers to burn increasingly dirty coal instead of taking the proactive step and moving to natural gas, which burns much cleaner than coal and exists in abundance in eastern Kentucky as well. This is nothing but a tax AEP has asked the PSC to levy on the backs on the people to ‘save’ Appalachian coal, much of which is exported anyway. AEP is morally corrupt. They have made tons of money from the last increase they got to take care of the rights of way, even though the electricity goes out regularly here when the wind starts to blow — proof that it was not money well spent.

.

I was told the other day by someone who lives a life like a teenager that I need to be an adult about things. I believe this person needs to practice what they preach. I am raising my son by myself. They are not even raising their child.

.

The Jenkins High School Class of 2012 senior trip is a little short on funds if anyone wants to make donations. Any little bit will help. Please take donations to the high school.

.

I would like to thank Sandy Ison from Parkway Hair Design for doing a perm for me on March 24. I was just a walk-in and I appreciate her for doing it very much.

.

To the bigot who is responsible for the slur on Mitt Romney in Speak Your Piece on Feb. 8, 2012: Obviously, you are illiterate and only make judgments on what you see on television. Josh Powell, the only person of interest in the disappearance of his wife Susan in West Valley City, Utah, was not an active Mormon. His wife was. He ran off with his two boys to the father’s home in the state of Washington. Her father was an ex-Mormon with an addiction to child pornography and liked to take photos of young female children without their permission. Josh Powell would not cooperate with police in Washington. Police got a search warrant for his dad’s home. Josh Powell lost custody of his sons to his active Mormon in-laws. He would not allow his sons to attend any LDS meetings while they were in the custody of his in-laws and had supervised visits with his sons. The Sunday they were killed, the sons didn’t want to go visit Josh but when the social worker came to pick them up they went. When the social worker drove them into the 30 miles to Josh’s new home, he slammed his door and locked the social worker outside. He took a hatchet to them and blew up the house in Washington because a judge ordered them to undergo a physiological test. But he could not get custody of his sons. I am proud to be a Republican. I am proud to have been a Letcher County resident. I am proud to be a Mormon. I am proud to have voted for Mitt Romney in my state’s primary. By the way, there has already been a president with a Mormon lineage that did a whole lot for coal miners. That man was John L. Lewis of the UMWA.

.

This is meant as no offense to Coleene Hart, but Lizzy Mae, I miss reading your piece on the Ermine Senior Citizens Center.

.

I want to wish J.D. a happy 17th birthday.

.

I’d like to wish our grandson James Wilder a happy 17th birthday on April 8. We love you.

.

I’m calling in regard to a certain man and his nephew who lives in Whitesburg. I think it is a shame that they can sell their drugs, take drugs and give drugs for women to do things. I think that is ridiculous. Something should be done. They should be ashamed of themselves and should keep their noses out of other people’s business.

.

To Jenkins Mayor G.C. Kincer: No to the threepercent tax. We just paid you for home taxes, city stickers, and big water bills. Now I’m saying no to more taxes. You really need to give the workingman a break. Shame on you.

(To our knowledge, Mayor Kincer has never uttered the first word about slapping a three-percent tax on anything.)

.

I am for global warming. When I was a kid we had to stay in for a week because the weather was so bad, the snow was so bad and the roads were so slick that we couldn’t go anywhere. Now, the grass is green in January. I remember 25 years ago when a friend said ‘Can you imagine mowing grass in November?’ Global warming has its benefits.

.

If you are going to quote the Bible, don’t leave out the part that says, ‘He who’s Holy Ghost filled can drink deadly poison or pick up deadly serpents and neither will hurt them if they bite them or they drink it.’

.

I was reading the newspaper and I noticed that the Letcher County school district is wanting to build tennis courts and such for $1.5 million, yet they want to let teachers be the librarians to cut back on spending money at school and cut this out and that out. They want to stick all the money into sports. It is my opinion that education is more important than sports. There are very few people who make a career out of sports. I think they should apply their money a little better. Everything you buy, everything you pay, always has the school taxes taken out of it. Maybe they ought to let the citizens decided what they do with the money for one time instead of Anna Craft.

.

I am concerned about the actions of our Jenkins Independent School Board, chaired by Mr. Durward Narramore. They are wasting our money in the most incredible way, by taking what I call taxpayer-funded vacations. Last year they went to San Francisco for about a week, on our tax dollars, and now I hear they are going to Boston for another week’s getaway. Next year they head back to sunny California. In looking, I found about $ 25,000 spread around in their budget to pay for their ‘training’ and travels (plane tickets, meals, hotel rooms, membership dues, registration fees, etc.). That doesn’t include what the superintendent, Mrs. Watts, has budgeted for her own travel and per-diem, which is another $5,000 or so. All in all, these six people have roughly $30,000 available to jet around the country on. I asked around and was told it was for ‘training’ and to learn about new ‘programs’ or changes in the laws. I was also told that family members are welcome to tag along on these ‘training’ trips and have been for years if they buy their own plane ticket. Really? Who pays for their room and their meals? Members of the Jenkins board can get their training here at home like all the other local school boards do by bringing in trainers from the Kentucky State School Boards Association, or doing what’s called ‘webinars’ — seminars you watch via the Internet for a very small fee. Want your own proof of this? Then call the KSBA and ask them. I did. The most training any board member has to have is 12 hours, so why take a whole week, fly thousands of miles and spend thousands of dollars to attend a conference in California when they could do it in the evenings at home for little or no expense? Seems we are paying about $2,000 per hour for this so-called training. That money would hire a teacher for a full year, and maybe the pitiful test scores of our children would improve. You would think that with so many folks out of work and the town in such shape, they would try to spend what little we have in a manner that benefits our children, and not their taste for travel. Joining this National Association is voluntary, its not required. It costs a fortune to belong to it, and everything they offer is available from our Kentucky Association, without the plane tickets, hotel rooms, and taxis. It’s just a fun trip, and that’s all there is to it. Remember, we have been paying extra taxes for years to the school system, and just last August they voted 4-1 to raise them again. Call or write the board members, call or write to Speak Your Piece, and tell them you are opposed to this outrageous waste of our money and you want it stopped now. If they won’t stop it, then let’s elect some who will before they raise the taxes again.

.

A real man doesn’t go out with a married woman. A real man doesn’t hide behind a gun. A real man stands with his Bible raising his child. A real man doesn’t tell others they need weapons for self-protection. With God on your side you need nothing else. But I guess when you have done so many people wrong you live a life of being afraid someone is going to get you. If you are a good person you don’t have to drive around hiding behind tinted windows with a weapon. That’s not a man, that’s trash.

.

This is concerning the redhead who has been hanging out at Fishpond Lake. You better watch what you are doing because I saw you there with many men. When that lady finds out you have been with her man, you’ll need all of that money to pay your hospital bill.

.

To the two girls with the initials T.T. and K.W. that keep putting the comments in about the girl with the blue car that is fooling around with her husband: Why don’t you all just mind your own business? You do worse than she does. You just don’t think anybody knows. But, I am telling you, if you don’t lay off and leave her alone, you will be answering to me. Hopefully you know who this is ‘cause I know both of you and I am not afraid of either one of you alone or together.

.

I just want to say that I am totally disgusted with this new generation of drug addicts. I used to sympathize with them, being a former person that had some problems of their own, but now it has just become clearer and clearer to me that this is totally different nowadays. Some people would just sell their own children to get hold of what they need. People are so stupid to put things like synthetic drugs in their body. It is just some chemical that some man made and you have no idea what it is doing to you, these bath salts and this potpourri that they are trying to play off as pot. It’s just horrible and all the medications people are doing. It is turning into nothing but a land of zombies. Whatever happened to just drinking a couple of beers, smoking a joint, eating a Twinkie and going to bed? Wake up, people.

.

Back by popular demand. The world famous top-10 list of most important items to the Jenkins mayor. 1. How to get the city councilmen to name the area where the shop building used to be to Radiation Boulevard. Isn’t that special? 2. Go ahead and purchase the property. Build the city pool and issue Geiger counters to all the children swimming there. 3. Explain to the Jenkins citizens why the mayor’s wife drives the white Cadillac all over town. It must be official city business. 4. Explain to the Jenkins citizens why it is okay for the city administrator to pick his kids up from school in a city vehicle on city time. 5. Raise the water bills to a point that people won’t bathe and people in surrounding towns can be heard saying there goes another one of G.C.’s stinky citizens. 6. Convince the Jenkins citizens he lost his hair naturally and not by walking behind the quantum huts. 7. When the apartment complex is built in Jenkins, he wants apartment No. 1. He figures he is just as senile as the next man. 8. Plant apple trees in the city park so G.C. can stone the citizens with them. 9. Trim all the trees in the city park to resemble the mayor’s head. Hair is optional. 10. Hold a private auction for the city employees to bid on the bulls the city owns. That stuff is getting deep up there.

.

I would like to wish Ashley Faith McClain a happy birthday on April 6. Love, Nana and Poppy Coomer.

.

I would like to wish my daughter, Ashley McClain, a happy 6th birthday from her dad, mom, sister and brother. We love you.

.

Happy 17th birthday to our nephew James. We can’t believe you are 17 already. We hope you have a great birthday. Love, Aunt Chelle and Uncle Brando.

.

I read in the newspaper where they are finally going to build the Letcher County Central High School softball field. As a citizen I want to thank Lisa Caudill at Jeremiah for moving that project along. Thank you.

.

In the era of George Bush, the economic advisors to the president said if the gas went above $2.00 a gallon, the economy would tank. How are they going to cure the economy unless they listen to Donald Trump, who said unless something was done about the price of energy the economy wouldn’t recover?

.

Well, I can’t say that my granddaughter has not learned from the best. She pulled an April Fool’s joke on me and I can’t top it, so I have quit and I have handed the reins over to her. In my front yard there are at least 500 Easter eggs. It’s gorgeous. I just need one big Easter bunny to finish it. Thanks, Haley.

.

I want to make a comment about the new softball field and tennis court, etc., at Letcher County Central High School: As a bus driver and custodian, we haven’t had a raise in almost three years, not even one penny. We have been promised every year. I think Supt. Anna Craft ought to look at her employees before she looks at all the other things she wants to do. We are the ones who bring the children to the schools. We are the ones who clean for them. I think she ought to look at that before she decides on her soccer fields and all of that. She needs to look at her employees and decided if they can get a raise.

.

Just checking in to say that I am sick to death of the holy rollers on the far right and the holier-than-thou types on the far left. These two political extremes are destroying our once-great nation. I’ve had enough of Fox News and I’ve had enough MSNBC. It’s time for the middle to rise up and take things back over.

.

It beats all I’ve ever seen in all my born days the way principals, teachers and board members murder the English language. This is the M.P. challenging Speak Your Piece to print this the way I done and went and spoke it. Thank you very much.

.

This is to the owners of Revelation Ranch and the Isom Day Committee: This is concerning those horses that got out and got loose in the Isom Cemetery. If they damaged any of my family’s headstones or gravesites, legal action will be taken.

.

Folks, be sure to tune in the Letcher County Government Channel this week for the Jenkins City Council meeting. Councilman Terry Braddock will make a presentation on how to balance the budget without taxes and how he can refund the utilities overcharges to the people and still have enough excess profits to tear down all of the old blighted and deteriorated company houses in Jenkins and have enough left over to repave all the streets. It’s time for my hero, The Savior of The People, Terry Braddock, to put up or shut up. Otherwise it’s time for the citizens of Jenkins to demand a recall vote and get him off the council. He is an embarrassment to the city. P.S. I hope the city treasurer is prepared to explain to Councilman Braddock again that the $400,000 that was in the city treasury was allocated for the water rehabilitation project and was not a product of overbilling. Don’t be surprised if Councilman Braddock doesn’t also present a much awaited expose on former Mayor Dixon’s slush fund. Stay tuned for another exciting episode of Super Terry Braddock. He is faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a speeding locomotive, able to leap tall buildings as he continues his quest for truth, justice and the American way of life.

(As we mentioned earlier, Kentucky state law does not allow for recall elections.)

.

Everyone is in favor of high coal prices. Coal is used to make electricity, and the electric company doesn’t complain about the price of coal because they pass the high prices along to consumers.

.

It looks like Jenkins City Councilman Terry Braddock is instigating all the citizens of Jenkins to come to the council meeting to support his heroics. While they are there, I hope they will demand that Braddock replace the Cavalier mural that he painted over without the school’s permission. He has admitted guilt, yet nothing has been done to right a wrong. Is there no justice in our land? Is Braddock above the law? Whatever happened to the virtues of honor, decency and integrity?

.

I am amazed at the professionalism of our county school bus operation. I have seen the buses in parking lots at Walmart, Food City and other establishments on way too many occasions, especially with the cost of gasoline hampering the travel of most regular drivers. I know taking the bus was supposed to help our gasoline consumption, but I don’t think using a government vehicle as a personal mode of travel by the drivers is what was meant by the expression. I also noticed that a few of these same drivers have another problem that is against county rules. It seems that several of them have a cell phone lodged between their head and hand while driving, and on the other hand rides the fate of many of our smallest school commuters to and from school. And as a final note, I noticed a couple of our drivers at a popular gay bar in Lexington recently. I guess you could say they were on a school outing.

.

I wonder if my sweetheart of years ago ever feels as I do. I feel we should have married. I’ve been happy throughout the years, but there’s been a longing within me that I just cannot get out of my system. I feel as if there’s been something missing. A void. And my sweetheart is the void.

.

Around 7,700 cities and towns in the United States reported record high temperatures for the month of March and we’re still being told by the wing-nut set that climate change is a hoax?

.

I just want to say words cannot express how much I appreciate everything that the wonderful people of Letcher County have done for me after the loss of my home by fire this month. Once again I have felt the love of you wonderful people here in this little county that I love so much. The first time I felt this love was when I lost my youngest son in 1981. You were there for me then as you have been now. So with all my love and blessings, thank you. To the wonderful men and women who ride with the Seventh Sons Motorcycle Club, my heart cannot express my love for each of you. What you did for me was beyond love. I love each of you as my own. My heart isn’t big enough to express my thanks to you and everyone who rode with us that day. Thanks for letting Granny feel young again for one more day. With all my love and blessings to each of you. Love, Granny (Judy Maggard).

.

Dear God, I need some answers for life. Every day God answers questions such as, ‘ How will I get through this?’ or ‘ What am I going to do in this situation?’ You can ask God questions in your prayers. Sometimes His answers sound like Mom’s or Dad’s, at other times He may respond differently than your mommy or daddy might. Sometimes He sends you a message in a whisper and other times in a loud, booming voice. But don’t worry, He always sends His message wrapped in love. Talk to God just like you would to your best friend. He wants to know you. He can’t wait to hear from you. Read Isaiah 30:19, Isaiah 55:8-9, Proverbs 16:9, Matthew 6:33, Philippians 4:6, John 3:16, Philippians 4:6, and Isaiah 40:31. May God bless you and yours.

.

We want to wish a late happy birthday to our brother, Steve. We love you. From all of your family in Kentucky: Happy birthday!
