It appears we have a new landfill. We went out to Carr Creek Lake, and it looks like everyone threw their trash right where they fish. This is awful. We need to get a cleanup day scheduled. We’ll all help.

Just so the neighborhood of Burton Hill knows, when the HOMES Inc. house was being built and someone robbed it of all those buckets of plaster and light fixtures, me and another person sat on our porch and watched a certain man and another person pack that stuff out of that HOMES house. It was around three in the morning. He packed it to the fence and lifted it over, and the other person took it from. I’m not making accusations. We saw what we saw. So being that we saw it, I want to let a certain man know he should not be so quick to judge his other neighbors. I also know of pill trading going on by certain people. One man involved told me these things himself. He said a certain woman was doping it up too much and running out of her medicine before time to go back to the doctor. He said she aggravated him to death wanting him to loan pills, trade pills, and sell her his pills. This is a very small portion of things known on certain people. My point, brothers and sisters, is that you shouldn’t back up people who have evil in their hearts while pointing the finger at good people, innocent people, and good neighbors. Getting up and going to church on Sunday doesn’t make a person a Christian, but what you feel in your heart for other people will.

If I was a county magistrate, there would be no way I’d have county workers cut trees at the mailbox in Whitco after a woman had complained about them cutting the trees around the Whitco cemetery. After the way she complained about the graveyard to the judge and people at the courthouse and anyone else who would listen, she should not ask for anything. I guess she claims to own the land the mailboxes sit on.

To a certain person: You are my angel on earth and you will be my angel in heaven. I love you and you are my angel.

.

To a certain person: Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive. You have been trapped in your own lies, munchkins.

.

I guess by now everyone knows about grandma and her best friend and the things they did together.

.

The caller who criticized the owners of a business for letting a little girl work there and take money for power bills should be ashamed of herself. The little girl and her family should be praised for the fact the girl was working. It has always been accepted that familyowned businesses often have their young children there working. That’s one of the things that helped make this country so great. Let’s hope it never becomes unacceptable for children to work in the parents’ place of business. You should go apologize to that little girl and her family. Shame on you, whoever you are.

.

To the woman who responded about the American

Legion with the long letter: You are good about putting your own words in the paper. Bravo to you.

Concerning the EPA and this Sierra Club and what has happened here with these coal companies, they have ridden this one horse to death. What few mines are left around here are under the gun to keep the water clean and they do. The facts will back that up. Thirty years ago I heard ‘we need to keep the streams clean.’ They rode that horse to death. Get off of it and try to think of something else. This country is in trouble if you get rid of this coal industry. This foreign oil makes no sense to me whatsoever when you have fuel right here that is cheap. These foreign countries have taken over and the EPA is going to run us out.

.

This is in regard to the comment in Speak Your Piece about the Baptist church in Louisville recently ordaining an openly gay man as a minister. It’s Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve, so I think it is totally wrong.

People in Letcher County need to highly consider changing out county judges in the next election. Jim Ward took all of the senior citizens to the EPA hearing about mountaintop removal mine permits at the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville. Why would Jim Ward take senior citizens and others from Letcher County over there? He made the county-paid employees drive them over there using taxpayer money to buy gas for the vans to get them there and back. Jim Ward went out of his way to support the natural gas companies and they came in here and tore up our properties and roads and haven’t fixed them back. They come in here and helped close down mines because the mines can’t get mineral rights to their coal because the gas companies control them. Now EQT and the other gas companies have left Letcher County high and dry by not fixing their wells back before they took off and closed down other companies like BJ Services. So what does Jim Ward do now? He takes money from a broken economy and uses it to fill up vans and take senior citizens on an hour trip wasting gas and tax money so he can look big by taking so many people to a coal hearing. I’m for coal and I think we need to support coal, but I don’t think Jim Ward should use tax money to take vans of senior citizens to a coal rally. What do senior citizens and coal have to do with each other? Most of them who went are women who didn’t work in a coal mine. Their husbands didn’t either. I don’t really see the point in having them all there. If they wanted to go they could have forked in money together.

Could someone please tell me why so many people color their hair when their face and neck show their age? Who are they trying to fool? Don’t they know that when they get a certain age their hair will turn gray? You can’t change that. Could someone please tell me why people do that? Do they think they are pretty?

To a person who commented in last week’s Speak Your Piece about his babies dying: You are going to die and go to hell. The devil sure is winking at you. With a parent like you the Lord looked down and saw what those babies were going to grow up with and took them to be angels in heaven. If I were you, I would quit my evil ways and find me a good church so I could see my babies again when I die. I feel so sorry for you. I have been praying for you. May God bless you.

.

I am completely exhausted from reading Speak Your Piece every week. Just the slandering and inappropriate quotes make me sick to my stomach. I get nauseated and regurgitate vomit in my mouth as I read this. I will no longer read Speak Your Piece.

(Rather than quit reading, you might try chewing a few Tums beforehand and see if that helps.)

When I moved, a certain lady caught me gone and told the people who were moving my belongings that I still owed her for my dinette set and my daughter’s bedroom set, not to mention other things. Really, all I owed her for was a bunch of small things that were mostly junk, which I intended to pay her for any way. I thought she was my friend and an honest Christian woman. I used to respect her.

.

To a certain man: I want you to know you are the most amazing man I have ever met. I love you and your son. He is amazing too. He told me how his mother did him over her boyfriend. I will always treat him as my own and I will help you in your business.

.

This is to the lady who criticized a business for letting a little girl work the cash register where she paid her electric bill: I saw that little girl and I was amazed by her and very proud of her. As far as the cigarette smoke getting on your clothes, I don’t believe a word of that. With your attitude toward a little child you are going to smell worse than cigarette smoke where you are going.

.

The pharmacy people at Whitesburg are so very nice. We have the nicest pharmacist and the people who work for him are so nice. I see why people are switching to Whitesburg from Cumberland and other places.

.

The music on 103.9 is awful now. They should go back to playing the music they used to play.

(WXKQ (The Bulldog) still plays ‘classic rock’ music. There has been no format change.)

Rest in peace, brother. Roy Crawford IV was a dear friend of mine, as were his brothers. Most of my high school weekends were spent where they lived at the time on Fields Cliff in Whitesburg. The Roy I knew and his friends knew was a happy goes lucky person who loved life. His passion was music, as is mine. Roy was a walking encyclopedia on the Grateful Dead, and he took me to my first Grateful Dead concert back in 1995 in Charlotte, N.C. While the concert was going on, he would call out the next song from the very first note ringing out from the stage. He loved the outdoors and never met a stranger. He was in his element when we were at a concert. That was his calling, his people. I am glad that I was able to return the favor, and in the summer of 1997 I took Roy with me to several concerts in a row. He was a great traveling partner who never complained about a thing as long as we were on the road or in the parking lot of an amphitheater. I’m so thankful to Roy for showing me that part of life — the true feeling of being free. Roy, I’ll miss you brother. Fare thee well my friend.

I read something in Speak Your Piece that disturbed me very much. Somebody wrote that he hoped God enjoyed watching the babies die. I wish to tell this person that God does not condone evil. He doesn’t enjoy evil. He doesn’t get any pleasure out of evil. Satan gets pleasure out of evil. Whoever the person is who wrote this is very disturbed, and I pray with all my heart that he finds peace with himself and with God.

.

To a woman in Coon Hollow: I will always wait for you. There will come a time and I will take care of you. Money is no problem. My heart is aching for you. One of these days you will be mine. Signed, I really care.

.

Most of what is written in Speak Your Piece is meant to hurt someone. Remember, sticks and stones can break bones, but words cut like a knife. I sometimes wonder who will have to answer to God, the caller, the printer or both.

.

Young man, you said you were going to call me in a day or two. Call me. No strings attached. You better call me soon because this cell phone isn’t going to last much longer.

.

Violets are purple, roses are red, and you are my angel forever. I love you.

When a mother cat takes new mate, he kills all her kittens from previous mates. Humans should be better than that.

This is in reference to recent Associated Press report entitled ‘Watchdog group goes after anti- Obama pastor’ wherein an eastern Kentucky Baptist pastor named Ronnie Spriggs was troubled by President Barack Obama’s views on gay marriage and was quoted as saying, ‘I don’t know about you folks, but I’m going on record and I don’t care who knows it. I want the guy out.’ Spriggs also said ‘this country can’t afford that kind of ideology in that office. Also quoted in the article was Americans United for Separation of Church and State, who said the comments made by Spriggs violate a federal law that says tax-exempt churches should not oppose a candidate. Executive Director Barry Lynn, was then quoted as saying, ‘This is one of the most over the top, unequivocal statements of opposition to a candidate that we have seen in a long time . . . this guy clearly doesn’t care what the law says.’ Lynn was then quoted as saying, ‘What violates (tax code) is linking it to a candidate and opposition to a candidate.’ After reading this particular article, as a Christian, it is most imperative that I ask each of you the following questions: How free are we? In 1954, then Senator Lyndon B. Johnson added to a standard tax bill an amendment barring all taxexempt groups, including churches, from participating in political activity. The penalty: loss of tax-exempt status. The result: a massive restraint on freedom of speech. Therefore, I strongly urge you to contact your elected leaders in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives and exhort them to help change the law, end this discrimination against Christians, and help restore the free speech and First Amendment rights of churches. It was never the intention of America’s founding fathers to keep our present day leaders from governing our nation with a Biblical worldview.
