No single action will do more to end the pill epidemic than drug testing for anyone receiving government aid. Cut off the checks to those who can’t pass a drug test.

To the person whose dog was hit by a driver that didn’t stop: Don’t blame the driver. I hate that your dog was hit by a car, I truly do, but if the dog hadn’t been in the roadway in the first place it would be alive right now. I’ve seen others complain about inconsiderate drivers, but what about the inconsiderate pet owners who put drivers at risk?

One family in McRoberts will have to suffer without water for at least another month because the City of Fleming-Neon won’t go ahead and install water lines to the family’s home even though the coal company has agreed to pay the cost. The coal company has agreed to pay the city for materials to bring the water up the hollow, but the city hall secretary said the family has to wait for the next city council meeting later this month, resulting in no water for the family. The city ran water and sewage lines, but fell short at least 1,000 feet from the family home because of lack of city funding. Meanwhile, the family is suffering from water shortage.

How do you like me now?

To all the thieves on Big Cowan and Kingscreek: Warning to you all. People do have surveillance cameras.

.

I think the people at Letcher Manor Nursing Home need to give diabetic patients snacks during the night.

.

The one way to keep people from talking about you is to stay away from them. But then again on the other hand, if they are going to talk about you, they are going to talk about you.

.

I would like to respond to the person who said the person who hit their dog didn’t have the decency to stop: The caller referred to the driver as negligent and hoped that the person who hit the dog found big brown eyes chasing them. It is a pet owner’s responsibility to keep a pet put up or on a leash so this type of thing does not happen. I have lost pets in such a painful manner and it is hard, but you cannot blame someone who is driving down the road when they hit a dog or cat. Sometimes when you have someone following you, it is unwise to stop. If you love the pet so much, be responsible and put them in an enclosed area or supervise them on a leash. It makes good sense and saves a lot of heartache.

.

I love my Cadillac.

.

Dear Heavenly Father, Have mercy on me, all of my friends and my neighbors and anybody else. And anything, Lord, that we don’t understand that you do understand, we apologize and ask for forgiveness. Have mercy on us all because we just are imperfect sinners by birth, not by choice.

.

To a certain person: My sister told me exactly what you said about me when she and her husband visited and I wasn’t there. She told me when we were at the hotel in Sarasota. She also told me she didn’t want to hear any more complaints about me from you ever again. Considering the way you threw all your fits afterward, do you honestly wonder why I left without a word? You may have the people in your dear town fooled, but you don’t fool me a bit.

.

To a certain woman: I will always love you, baby. And you know who this is. I always called you baby. I hope you found the man you love. I’m sorry that you didn’t care much for me. I still think of the good times we had together. I wanted to tell you that I am thinking about you.

.

To people who have their houses right against the roads in these hollows with weeds taking over their driveways: Get out there and cut the weeds. Quit waiting for the county to do it. Cut the weeds from in front of your fences to keep it from looking like a jungle. Get off your sorry behinds and start up a Weed Eater.

.

While driving across Pine Mountain the other morning I tried to catch the fog but I mist.

.

Condolences to Aurora, Colo., where that piece of slime came in and destroyed all of those families. About the gun situation, there are 200 million guns in the United States right now. By taking them up, only the criminals would have them. They tried that in Australia and the crime rate is up 42 percent. About the president, we need to check on him about who he is letting help run this country. He’s got Hillary Clinton.

.

This is to the grandfather who was supposed to come to Little Dryfork and babysit his grandkids: You know you are making a fool out of being a grandparent by not watching those kids. You are letting your girlfriend and your drugs get ready to get your kids taken away. I have sat down here and watched and hoped that you would start baby-sitting your grandkids. I don’t think that is going to work so now it is time for the next step. I’m going to go ahead and make my next step.

.

Let’s all pray for President Obama. Here is a guy who has offended everybody — people who love their Bible, their guns, the Christians, the Jews and just about everyone else. So let’s pray for him. Psalm 109 verses 7-19.

.

Dear Speak Your Piece: I am still in wonderment at Democrats in this county who voted for Gov. Steve Beshear. He caused your power bills to go up and now he has screwed Medicaid. Let them eat cake. There is no end to what they’ll take.

.

I want to wish Jeff a happy birthday on August 2. I love him very much. From Dorothy.

.

To the person complaining about moving to location near a junky yard: Don’t move anywhere near me, because where I live it is called junkyard yard art. And mind your own business. Don’t worry about it. We pay our taxes. We bought our own land. Stick it up your nose. Enjoy what you’ve got and we’ll enjoy what we have.

.

I hope the ex-football coach at Jenkins knows how we feel about him now. He just laid down and went to a different school and left all of our freshmen and sophomores high and dry.

.

Certain people care more about the horses than than do kids. You take better care of the horses. The kids stay over at the barn and some of them can’t take a shower because you run out of hot water. Kids stay three and four days at a time. They come home nasty wearing the same clothes they went over there in. Why doesn’t the social services check on this bunch? Something isn’t right.

.

I would like to ask Superintendent Anna Craft a question. Are you going to shut down every school in Letcher County except Whitesburg? They got rid of an art teacher and cut back in the science program at Cowan Elementary School. They let other teachers teach are when they aren’t qualifi ed. Why is she cutting back on academics? How many professional tennis players, soccer players, football players or basketball players has she seen come out of this region? None. I don’t see what the plan is. Over $2 million is being spent on sports fields when they are cutting back on academics. Life is not a ballgame.

.

There is a song out called ‘What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger.’ The Jenkins High School football boys lost their coach to Letcher County Central High School. They have two of the best players in the state. I think they are going to have a great season. I think he is going to regret leaving the team he built. These boys are tough and these boys are going to bounce back stronger than ever. Come out and support them.

.

I’m getting ready to go out and overdose on Reese’s Cups or bath salts or something if the guy doesn’t quit talking about his angel every week in Speak Your Piece. He is driving me flipping crazy.

.

I just want to tell the whole world that I love the good Lord Jesus. I believe in Him. There is nothing else in the world like Him. Praise the good name of the Lord. I love Him.

.

I read in Speak Your Piece about someone whose little dog was hit by a car that didn’t stop. I’m sorry to hear about your loss, but whose fault is it when something like that happens? If you truly care for your pets, you wouldn’t allow them out on the road in the first place. How often do drivers have to swerve or stop to avoid hitting a dog or cat in Letcher County? I suppose pet owners wouldn’t feel responsible if a driver swerved and it caused a traffic accident. What if the driver held you responsible for damages? Would you take that sort of responsibility for your pet, which shouldn’t have been in the road in the first place? Probably not. Further along in Speak Your Piece another caller said his or her kids play in the road and complained about the traffic. Sounds Darwinian to me.

.

All you coal miners who got laid off due to Obama and his EPA hitch men need to send Romney at least $35 apiece to beat Obama in the next presidential election. It is money that is going to matter.

.

It would be great if more people called in about 103.9 and the new platform. It doesn’t work for me. I like rock and roll. There is absolutely nothing to listen to on the radio anymore.

.

To a certain woman: I love you more than the stars in the sky. You are my angel and I love you.

.

That M.P. is the smartest person I have ever read in Speak Your Piece. Either he is a genius or an intellectual or else he is one wild and crazy guy. Get it.
