I never thought I would see the time that doctors who have paid to go to medical school would let the state and other people dictate what medications they can and cannot write for their patients. I grant you the drug epidemic is out of control, but not writing meds for people who need them and are taking them correctly is not the answer. I just never thought the doctors would not write them without fighting back and standing up for what is right for them and their patients. Things need to change, because there is going to be more crime than ever. They need a better solution than what they have chosen.

I think these low-life, scum sucking pieces of garbage that are leaving these cats, dogs and animals beside the road are dog meat. I wish there was some way you could be treated the same way. You don’t have to set those animals out.

.

Why do people leave their Christmas decorations out all year? I think it looks so gross. Please take it down.

.

I’d like to know what happened to the Meals on Wheels. Can they not afford to give it to people? What are they doing? Are they taking it home with them?

The coal industry has suffered at the hands of the EPA and reaches far beyond the coal mine itself. Families are faced with financial problems and this is causing a spike in domestic violence in Appalachia. Many of our men and women that were once working and proud of who they were and proud of what they did now find themselves in situations that are beyond their control. Situations that are placed on them by people that have never met a coal miner, people that know nothing about the true Appalachian pride and spirit of our miners. The tree huggers are against mining out of guilt. The tree huggers cannot look at their children and say ‘I worked an honest day’s work for what we have.’ The EPA has for many years pushed policies on the working men and women of this country that are far beyond their power as a government agency. We the people have let this go on. We have bowed down, tucked our heads between our cheeks and out of fear from our government let a select few dictate to many. We are the government, or at least we were. Why should we be afraid of ourselves? At one time the government had fear of the people because we were a United States. Now we fear the government because? No one can really tell me why. We don’t live in a country under a dictatorship. We live in a country that was built on democracy, fairness, and the will of the people. Have we lost our will? Here we find ourselves in a situation struggling to pay our power bills, water bills, grocery bills and losing our automobiles, with no insurance to pay our medical bills or money to pay the loans. The very ones that sit off in other cities and complain about coal are the very ones that use the most electricity to light their offices, cool and heat their homes, watch TV, listen to music on their high dollar stereos, and have no fear that they to will find themselves one day sitting in the dark. I agree with finding renewable energy sources. I agree with cleaner air, but I also think it is everyone’s responsibility and not just the coal miner. Many power plants are discovering the cost to produce electricity with any source other than coal is too costly and that cost will be paid by the consumer, so many of whom the EPA has tried to put out of work. How can we pay? It is a fact that more damage to the environment is done by having to use more natural gas to reach the same btu level as coal to produce electricity. The whole economics of Appalachia will have a trickle down affect on the state and many jobs will have to go because some person somewhere sitting in his or her lighted, cooled and heated office wants to dictate the future of our families. If things continue in a downward spiral in this area, I think I will find me an EPA office and move in. I’ll stay cool in the summer, warm in the winter, dry when it rains, have no utility bills, and I’ll let those working tree huggers pay for my food stamps. Hey, we own the offices, but may be afraid to tell anyone.

When I grew up, women didn’t wear pants very often — just when they were out in the field. Well now they wear them everywhere, even to church. I think that is disrespectful to the preacher and to God. You should always sacrifice that day at least and look like a lady.

.

I want to wish my girlfriend a happy birthday. Signed R.V. We worked at Mountain Motor Speedway together.

.

To the stupid man in Jenkins who wants to know what my case is: My case is my case. I have never done anything that I could not be forgiven for in the eyes of God. All that you should worry about is minding your own business. And worry about your case when you stand in front of God. Your place will be as great as mine if you keep putting your nose in other people’s business.

.

Happy birthday to my loving little beautiful angel. I love you.

.

This goes out to the girl who I had my date with when we watched ‘Beaches.’ I often think of you. I miss you and hope you are doing well.

.

It’s good that a certain woman is back in church now like nothing ever happened. How does she sit in church with everyone knowing all of the parties she performed in when she was pregnant with her child?

.

I’m calling about Evergreen Cemetery and Green Acres Cemetery. It is absolutely pitiful the way our families are buried there and the way the graves look. You have to wade weeds up to your waist almost to get to relatives’ graves at Evergreen. Green Acres is not a whole lot better. Everyone should get together and do something about this.

.

To the witch who rides the wheelchair pushed by her husband: The best thing you can do is keep your mouth shut. You are talking about someone who doesn’t deserve your remarks. You can walk. I have seen you walk. I have a lot of stuff I can tell so watch your step.

.

I have a comment to make about this person we know who is writing really mean things in Speak Your Piece about Revelation Ranch. You know, people come into this area and they really try to do good and try to help people and all they get is terrible gossip. We know who is doing this. Will you please stop it? It is just hurting yourself more than it is anybody else. It is making you look bad.

.

Just because you are a Republican, don’t fall for the lines that Ryan and Romney are telling. They want to cut Medicare and Medicaid back and issue a voucher, do away with federal Pell grants, and cut food stamps. With cutting backing back Medicaid and Medicare, each senior citizen would have to pay $6,400 more a year for their Medicare. Please, senior citizens, don’t give up your Medicare and all the student loans. If we’re not careful we will go back to Hoover’s days. Paul Ryan is the architect of all of those proposed cuts and Romney said he is for him 100 percent. He has no liking for poor people. That is what Romney said out of his own mouth. Be aware of Romney and Ryan, folks.

.

I attended River Park in Whitesburg this year for the Riverside Days Festival, and when the talent show got eliminated down to four contestants the judges voted off the best one. I think it is terrible that the judges could be that confounded and vote the best one off. Everyone that was there thought she was the best talent. I believe her last name was Puckett. Also, I thought Marlowe Tackett put on a better show than the Howard girl. If she calls herself a singer, I am a brain surgeon.

You can always find a millionaire to shovel a load of coal.

.

Because people can’t get their medication anymore, the crime rate will soar. People who are going through withdrawal without help will do anything they can to get what they need. Everybody better be aware and on guard.

Coach Paul Rains was supposed to be the savior of LCCH football — the difference that would raise the boys’ heads back up and instill confidence again. With his new form of coaching and teaching new plays, yes. However, he preaches and not teaches empathy. Is it last year all over again? It seems that way. I can go on and on, but to finish all I will say is if you talk the talk, walk the walk. You don’t have everyone fooled, Paul Rains.

(Doesn’t a new coach deserve at least a couple of seasons to get his system in place before he starts catching all kinds of heck? Not preaching; just asking.)

.

The guy with the angel is a sick puppy and it probably won’t be long until he needs an angel.

.

You can’t live for God and lie. You can’t live for God and cheat. You can’t live for God and be dishonest and mean to other people, because God will not tolerate it. He can bring you to your knees. What you reap, you will sow. You better think twice before you start being mean to kids. Your children go to school, too. It could come home and bite you in the butt, and you might not like it. I pray when it does happen it will enter your mind on how you treated other children. It will come home to you. That is ungodly like.

.

Mr. Governor, you said when you signed the pill mill bill that the people would get their medicines. As of right now, who is helping the people in Elkhorn City and the Paintsville area and all of the people who need their medicine? Who is helping them, Mr. Governor? You all shouldn’t do like you are doing, which is going in and stopping people from getting their medicine. Take the patients and ease them off the medicines. You need to ease the patients out of it. You are going about it the wrong way.

.

Who cares about Mitt and Ann Romney’s tax returns? They have lots of money, big deal. They use tax shelters and loopholes to keep as much of their money as possible; again no surprise. The public does not care much. Democrats will show the inequality in taxation rates; already know it, so what. Why not make them public? There must be an extremely good reason for allowing this issue to interfere with Romney’s message to America. The IRS already has their returns and has not found any problems that we know of. Who else could they be hiding this information from? What group has them really worried? They may have mentioned it already. They complained their tithing to the Mormon Church was deeply personal and not for public consideration. But wait, Mitt has made multiple detailed public statements about it. It’s not about privacy. The only group remaining is the Mormon Church. To be a ‘member in good standing’ includes giving 10 percent of your income. This is common knowledge and professed by the Romneys themselves. Good for them … unless they’re lying. Are Mitt and Ann a modern version of the Biblical Ananias and Sapphira? Acts, Chapter 5.

I’m going to make a point of listening to Rmoney’s* acceptance speech. I’m hoping he’ll clear up for me the difference between legitimate and illegitimate rape. *Not a mistake.

.

I’m a college student from around the Blackey area. When does Internet service ever work at the Blackey Library? I have been down there on four separate occasions and for some reason or another it never does work. I would like to know when it does work.

.

I want to ask everyone who lives or travels on Highway 1148 at Little Colley to slow down. Our children play here. Our yards are close to the road. I have actually had vehicles come into my yard. So please slow down for the sake of our children.

.

This is for the person who was commenting about AT&T: Just to let you know, people are stealing the telephone lines. That’s why there is trouble with the phones and everything. Get updated, please.

.

It doesn’t matter what all of those people say or have said about us, now all they can do is eat crow. I love you, Nathan, with all my heart and nothing will ever change that.

.

To a certain person: One of your family members told this about you. The family member said you walk around your little daughters with your privates slightly hanging out and then you kiss your little daughters square on the mouth. I don’t know any of this to be true, but Mama, if this is going on in your house you need to take care of business and call the proper authorities. Well, I won’t say what should be done to him, because if I do I could be arrested for it.

.

I have a question about college football. I don’t understand how they ranked Southern Cal number one even though they have a pretty good quarterback. Alabama won the championship last year. The first game they play is against the eighth-ranked team in the country. USC plays Hawaii. I think USC plays two ranked teams. They don’t have a tough schedule. Alabama plays Arkansas the third game. They are ranked 10th. Then they have to play thirdranked

LSU. How do these teams like Southern Cal get ranked like this when the competition isn’t there? It doesn’t make any sense. If you don’t think Alabama is tough, ask Colt McCoy how tough they were two or three years ago. I think he can fill people in a little bit.

.

To a certain teacher: How come you feel that you need to send your child to another school system? What’s wrong? Are Letcher County schools not good enough for your child?

.

To a certain person: I wonder what your pastor on Kingscreek would say if he knew you were visiting other churches trying to buy pain pills.

.

My angel is there when I need her and I am there when she needs me. And I love her and she is my angel.

.

Do not put off until tomorrow what you can do today. Our county is becoming famous for holding back kids. I thought the whole idea is to help them learn, grow and move forward. We hold kids back when they have learning issues. That, I understand and agree with. When a student is held back for sports and repeats a class, they are not given the opportunity to learn new things. We are truly holding them back. They lose an entire school year of learning. How many Michael Jordans have we had in eastern Kentucky? The people who did leave the region came stumbling back. A great education will serve these kids well — much better than a false hope of an NBA career. Parents shouldn’t be excited about a child regressing. Instead, progressing. School boards shouldn’t approve it for sports reasons.

.

Does a certain woman at Whitco get by with selling drugs because her son is a snitch? He uses a condom to put his urine in to take his drug test, but his urine is his niece’s urine. Can’t they tell a girl’s urine from a boy’s urine? All you have to do is look for the cars parked beside the road at a certain location and you can get a lot of pill sellers and buyers. Count their pills and you will see the count doesn’t add up.

.

To the man I met 22 years ago: I’d love to get together again. Please respond in Speak Your Piece. We met at the G.P. Let’s meet again. Let me know when and where, but bring a more dependable vehicle.

.

Is someone lying? In 2008, oil cost $150 a barrel. Gas was just over $4. Oil just went up to $96 a barrel. That is 35 percent lower than in 2008. If the price of oil determines the cost of gas, then gas should be less than $3 a gallon. Farm Bureau claims that ethanol makes gas cheaper, but according to the figures this is not true. In addition, ethanol cuts down your miles per gallon.

.

To the senior citizen who encouraged all senior citizens to know Romney, because he’s going to do away with Medicare: Where have you been? Obama raided Medicare in order to get Obamacare off the ground. Romney and Ryan have pledged to keep Medicare. Did you not see Ryan in Florida when he had his mother on stage and pledged to keep Medicare for people like her? There will be no Medicare after Obamacare starts. Decisions will be made by a bureaucrat in Washington about the treatment you get. If the bureaucrat decides it is more economical to treat a family of illegal alien’s children than a senior citizen in Letcher County. Which do you think will be chosen to receive that treatment? You indicate that Romney’s dad left him rich. Romney gave all his inheritance from his dad to charity. Can you tell us what promise Obama made that he kept? America is a Christian nation. Did you notice in the news that Obama had a dinner to celebrate Ramadan? Do you know what that is? Muslims observe Ramadan. It is a month of fasting which moves each year as it is calculated according to a lunar calendar. It’s not hard to find the facts and think for yourself. Don’t repeat what you may hear with no basis for stating it.

(The White House began observing the Islamic month of Ramadan in 1996 under then- President Bill Clinton. The latest tradition of the U.S. State Department using the White House to host Iftars — the evening meal when Muslims break their fast during Ramadan — continued for eight years under the administration of President George W. Bush and four years under the Obama adminstration.)

Folks, alternative power is coming and there’s nothing we can do or should do to stop it. Just as the automobile replaced the horse and buggy, so too will alternative energy replace coal fired power plants. But all is not lost. For every coal job eliminated, there will be one or two new jobs created in the new power generating industries that are popping up all over the country. Instead of resisting the coming changes in power generation, we should embrace it with open arms. There is money to be made in solar and wind power. I travel this country and I see huge wind turbines going up left and right just about everywhere but here. I see huge solar arrays being built, but nothing is happening here. The reason is because simply mentioning solar power around here is enough to start a fistfight. It makes no sense; you can’t stop change. You either adapt or get left behind, and we are getting left behind. Solar power isn’t rocket science. Just spend a weekend watching YouTube videos and you can figure out how to build a 100-watt system for under $900 that will give you free electricity for the next 30 years. Do the math. You don’t even have to pay all that at once. Just buy a piece here and there as funds allow until you get your system built. Then keep expanding it until you can power your entire house.

.

Remember when everybody’s favorite pastime was simply to get in the family car and go for a drive? Sometimes when I get aggravated I still go for a drive just to relax and enjoy the ride. The wife had me so aggravated one time that I jumped in the pickup and drove all the way to Florida. Round trip was $600 in gas. I still enjoy going for a drive, just cruising around town. But these days I do it on a cheap street bike that gets 72 miles per gallon, and the insurance only costs $15 per month. Now that gas prices are getting ready to skyrocket again, the motorcycle is getting a lot more use. The only time I drive the pickup now is when I have to take the wife to town or go get groceries. But for everything else, I take the bike.

It’s great that Jenkins is finally getting a pool and recreation center, but I wonder if the total cost has been calculated for the operation, maintenance and insurance cost for such a facility? As a past resident during the 50’s and 60’s, I fondly remember spending summers at the pool and going to the movie theater, both of which are no longer there because of their expenses to operate and lack of patrons. I suspect the same will happen with this new recreation facility. Nowhere (Jenkins city web site or The Mountain Eagle articles) have I seen discussion on projected annual costs. Given from what I’ve seen, the current city operating budget just barely covers existing expenses. Adding additional personnel, annual operation and maintenance expenditures for a new facility will mostly likely cause city residents to face additional taxes or other financial costs. Having worked in federal acquisition for over 30 years I can honestly say that the biggest expense is not getting something, but maintaining it once it’s purchased. I think Jenkins citizen should insist that open discussion or documented projections be provided to show the funding source and annual budget for the new facility.

To the person that is writing derogatory comments in here about Revelation Ranch and the Revelation 22 drama team: Let me make something clear to the readers. First, the property they are on right now is up for sale and they knew from the get-go they would be moving from Colson. They were much aware that Colson was not a permanent place for them. This is were they relocated after they left Calvary Campus, and as most of us know Calvary Campus has not been successfully serving the Lord for years. The ownership of that campus is its issue. Second, when they were on Kingscreek they were only up there for a few weeks for fellowship and to allow their horses to graze a while. They were not asked to leave there for any reason. They were only camping. Third, they are moving to this new property because it was donated to them and is going to be a permanent home. As far as the drama team, obviously you have never attended one of the performances, because the Spirit of God is poured out and there have been many people saved because of their ministry. How many people have you led to the Lord in the past year? If you were busy doing the works of God you would pray for them instead of slaying them if you feel they are doing wrong. Anyone who is hindering the works of the Lord is allowing Satan to rule their life. If you are a Christian and holy person you would look at the fruit of their labors. But their works are neither for you nor me to judge, my friend. And that’s all.

.

All praise be to God, Revelation Ranch Equestrian Ministry now has a new permanent home. Ricardo and Peri are awesome. They have helped out so many families in this area — not only Letcher County but also the surrounding counties. They have received a huge piece of land with a house and barn donated to them, and to our most holy God we give Him all the glory! If you have not met the Ricardo family you should. If you haven’t been able to attend one of their drama events, you should. We all need to be in prayer for them and their ministry, because where God is moving and allowing good things to happen, Satan attacks. God bless.
