Speak Your Piece

Tell us what’s on your mind. No need to give your name.

Call 633-7508 from 9 am Tuesday to 9 am Friday.

In addition to the telephone and the U.S. Mail, The Mountain Eagle accepts comments to Speak Your Piece by electronic mail. Our address is: mtneagle@bellsouth.net

This is in response to the lady who wrote in Speak Your Piece about people not wearing pants to church when she grew up: This isn’t the 1800’s and you don’t need to be smarting off about people who wear pants. The good Lord will take care of them. You are not the judge, and you need to bridle your tongue. Wear your dress and go on to church.

.

What does it matter if you wear pants or a dress to church? As long as you attend, at least you are in church. The Bible doesn’t say you have to wear a dress. In fact, it doesn’t speak of what kind of clothes to wear. It says to attend church. People, you need to read your Bible more.

.

Would a family member really steal off another family member who needed money? I hope not.

.

On August 2, a blue 1999 blue Chevy S-10 was stolen from the Fleming-Neon exit on U.S. 23/119. There is a reward offered for any information leading to its return. Please contact the Kentucky State Police or Kathy at 855-0355.

.

A lady in housekeeping at a certain healthcare facility should not have been written up for someone else’s mistakes. I was there and saw what happened.

.

When you get your water cut off in the City of Jenkins they won’t come pick your trash up, yet there are three houses in Wyatt Hollow in Dunham that don’t pay a water bill or a trash bill and their trash is picked up. Can someone tell me why this is allowed?

.

Everyone has been talking about this pill pipeline and how police have been cracking down on dealers. Tell me how it is that a certain person can go to Tennessee every weekend and bring pills back, then sell them with his brothers. It seems like when you shake a little money or pill toward the right people they don’t ever say anything.

.

I see a woman in Neon has finally found her a man. If she is waiting for me to die, she will probably be waiting awhile. She knows who she is.

.

It will be a happy day when Mountain Breeze and Mountain Pride apartments are maintained better.

.

I’m just wondering how many people have had the power company come on their property and trim under lines and then leave behind a lot of brush and limbs. Then they refuse to come back and clean it up. Does anybody else have this problem? Call Speak Your Piece and let me know. I am trying to make them come back and clean it up. They said they would, but they have not.

.

The road stretching from Raleigh Bentley’s cemetery to Deane is nothing but a mud hole — summer, spring, winter or fall. How many people would like to get together and just close that company out or take some kind of action to make them properly clean it and not laugh at all the people they are slinging mud on?

.

Us senior citizens here at the Boone Fork Center at Fleming are in desperate need of a building. Ours is old and dilapidated. They have two good centers at McRoberts and don’t use either of them at all. I don’t understand why they couldn’t haul that trailer down here for us. They are never open. They go for weeks at a time and you never see anybody there. Only two or three people have keys to them and no one else can use them. We are in desperate need for a senior citizens center at Boone Fork. We would sure appreciate if they would move that trailer down here for us.

.

I’m glad that a certain lady has married a man who is old enough to be her great-grandpa. Now she won’t be trying to take mine anymore.

.

I was coming back from my chemo treatment in Pikeville when I passed an elderly lady on the side of the road with a Kentucky State Police car behind her. The trooper was helping her change her tire. That is an outstanding police officer that would help an elderly lady. You know who you are, and I appreciate our guys for helping our elderly. Thank you very much for that.

.

This goes out to anybody — liberal, conservative or whatever you are — who can sit and say that four more years of this garbage is going to be good for our America, our beautiful United States, our home that gives us all of our liberty and freedom: If you can say that these four last four years have been good for America, then I definitely am your enemy. You definitely are my enemy. You are a traitor to this nation. You are a traitor to all your neighbors and family. If you vote for four more years of this you deserve what you are going to get if you get it. If we are ever on a burned out highway and the world is brought down to nothing you will receive no quarter from me if we pass each other on those burned-out roads. This is real America. You better wake up.

.

I gave you a break last week. If you want this hiatus to continue, watch your every word, your every move, and your every reaction. I will reciprocate to any adverse reaction. By the way, do you hear the radio? You will continue to hear the radio. Now call the squad and I’ll have you back in court. Is this understood? This is the M.P. speaking, who is not afraid to reveal his identity. Have a nice day, porch sitters, swingers and rooftop leapers.

.

And now a word from our sponsor. Did you know meth use is up 60 percent in Kentucky? I think I would be moving right on out of there, guys and dolls.

.

I am a resident of Jenkins who wonders if Jenkins Mayor G.C. Kincer and Randy Blair are in the construction business together. I understand that Randy was the one who remodeled City Hall and does all of this construction work for the city. What constitutes a conflict of interest?

(Mayor Kincer has no financial interest in Blair Construction. The company was chosen to remodel Jenkins City Hall and most recently to construct the World War II Memorial because it submitted what the Jenkins City Council considered to be the lowest and best construction bid.)

.

This is the person who called into Speak Your Piece and said they knew who was saying these things about Revelation Ranch: Obviously, there is more than one person who feels this way. It is not gossip when you know these things to be truth and you have dealt with them and you know these things for a fact. We are not trying to hurt anyone. We are simply trying to warn people that things may not be as good as they seem.

.

This is to the person who has a problem with women wearing pants and thinks it is disrespectful for them to do so in church: I don’t think the Lord really cares what people are wearing and I don’t think you should either. Times change and men don’t dress the same as they did a long time ago either. If we did, there would be long tails to their feet hooked onto their coats and two-feet tall hats on their heads. I mean times change and styles of clothes change. I think women look good in pants. Get over it. You ought to just be happy that people are in church period.

.

I’m sick of all the people whining about their medications and threatening crime and reprisals and saying that people are going to get their medications anyway they can. Eight-five percent of people who use medications don’t really need them. They are using them because it makes them feel good and to get high. It is just like a little kid with a cookie. These drug abusers are the people who are ruining it for the people who really need medicine. As far as breaking into houses and getting your medicine anyway you want, maybe you’ll break into the wrong house and somebody will put you out of your misery for good.

.

I wish the Jenkins Independent Board of Education wouldn’t spend so much time during meetings talking about fundraising and booster meetings. Board member Tracy Goff just spent an hour and a half talking about fundraising and booster meetings. Just spit it out and get to the point.

.

How about them Cavaliers? Everyone thought they would crash and burn after losing their coach this year. August 24 was one of the best nights of my life seeing our boys play so hard and how the Jenkins crowd came out and supported them. I will never forget seeing Andrew do the ‘Tim Tebow’ after his touchdown. They are shining like the stars that they are. Let’s have more press coverage. I am also proud of Letcher County’s semi-pro football team, the Wolves. They went eight and one this season. They are going to Chicago to play for the conference championship game. Christopher Puckett threw for four touchdowns. There are some great players on this team. It is a shame more people didn’t come out and support them.

.

This is to the person who called in about a lady sitting in the back who is expecting a child. She said something about her partying. For one, you are not to judge anyone except you were at the party. If you weren’t at the party, this means you might be listening to gossip and spreading gossip. Either way, you are not supposed to judge others or spread gossip.

.

How many people are tired of hearing the media spreading the lie that gas prices were going up because tropical storm Isaac has hit? Heck, it was going up before it ever hit. Truth is gas prices went up because it was Labor Day weekend. They know they can burn the people up who don’t have enough sense to stay home.

.

This is to whoever commented about a certain woman being back in church like nothing ever happened: Seems to me that if you were a good Christian then you would be happy that God has forgiven her.

.

I think it is a shame that our little Letcher basketball girls have to have the same kind of coaching that Beckham Bates has had all these past years. I never thought they would bring that coach down here to coach our kids. If she could have coached, she would have won some games up there. The little girls are who build the program at Letcher. Wake up, Letcher, and get someone who knows what she is doing. She has always had favorites, according to the people at Colson. Let the other coach do the coaching, please.

( So even elementary school basketball coaches are being criticized for not winning enough games these days?)

.

I would like to know how the guy that carries the urine in a condom to his probation officer gets by with that. How come the probation officer never does anything about it? How come the probation officer doesn’t go in the bathroom with him and watch it. He would fail his drug test every time. It seems to me we need new probation officers or we need to call ahead. It looks like this guy is getting away with too much.

.

I would like to respond to a caller’s comments about Revelation Ranch and to keep things factual to the readers. They had to leave Calvary Campus because of uncooperative attitudes. They have to leave Colson because of uncooperative attitudes. And yes, there were three properties they went through in about a month’s time in Kingscreek leading them to being asked to leave. As far as the drama team goes, some very sweet children are involved in the program, but they are being used as pawns. And for the questions about leading people to the Lord, the Lord is the only one who can take credit for people being saved. I am not judging anyone. I have simply stated the facts of the situation.

.

To all of you people out there who are on a fixed income: Just remember when it comes election time the three guys on the fiscal court that voted to raise the garbage bill. Just remember them.

.

To a certain person: I wonder if your angel will be there for you when you answer to God for your deceitful ways and lies.

.

To a certain woman: People like you give churches a bad name. Some women go to church to get a blessing, not to be looked at. I normally don’t read Speak Your Piece, but today I did. I am so sad for the people who will read your comment who only have pants to wear to church and then decide not to go. You need to go home and pray for yourself and please stop blocking people from the word of God. God sees you everywhere — at home, on the beach and even in the field.

.

There is such a thing as a good, respectable cop. I ran into one on top of the mountain the other day. He could of made it rough on me. Sir, I didn’t get your name, but I appreciate you.

.

There is a cold wind blowing on the Kentucky River.

.

I would like to wish a happy belated birthday to my husband Gary. His birthday was on Aug. 30. Happy birthday, babe. I love you. From your wife Tonya.

.

To the gray-headed witch in the wheelchair: I see you traded the black hat for the pink cap. When are you going to trade the wheelchair for a broomstick?

.

To a certain woman living with a certain man at Deane: Do you really think he is truly yours and only yours? Think again. He is still coming and seeing me. He has you eating out of his lying, two-timing hands. You deserve everything he gives you.

.

To a certain man: We had eight years together, on and off. I loved you more than you know. I didn’t want us to end. You decided that. I hope you are happy with her. She doesn’t love you like I did. One day you will find that out and it will be too late. I love you forever. Bye, C.M.

.

I have two sons who wanting to play middle school ball for Jenkins. I was wondering why they don’t have a decent practice right after school instead of one that goes into the late hours of the night. It seems like they are the only team in the school doing it. If the coach cannot give them 100 percent of his time to coach them, he does not need to be the coach. I know we have the district championship from last year, but if he can’t give them 100 percent of his time then he doesn’t need to coach. They need to do something where all kids can play ball, not just the favorites.

.

I love horses as much as anyone, but let’s talk dollars here. We don’t have the infrastructure to attract horseriding tourists. We have no saddle shops, livery stables, horse trailer dealerships, etc. So where’s the money in it? This county would make a lot more money with an ATV trail from one end of the county to the other. We could require insurance on all ATV’s on the trail (and on public roads for that matter). Each City could require a permit for ATV’s being ridden inside city limits. Heck, the state could even issue license plates for ATV’s and make a killing. In many parts of the county, ATV’s outnumber cars on the road. Why not regulate that? We could attract ATV dealers, repair shops and yes, lots of ATV tourists with money to spend. It would pay off far more than we’ll ever get from a horse trail. Michigan has ATV trails that allow you to ride all the way across the state, and it is a booming business. They have horse trails too, but there’s no money in it. You go with what works. ATV trails pay big dollars. But horse trails, not so much. I see no reason why we can’t have both here. With all this talk about bringing new industry to Letcher County, it’s staring us in the face. ATV trails attract money from the spending tourists. They work hard, they play hard, they have money and we have the perfect terrain. County wide, we’re talking dozens of new businesses that could be created to service ATV tourism. Now seriously, how many new businesses will be created as a direct result of the new horse trail? Not many. We can ban 2-stroke ATV’s to eliminate all the smoke and noise. The 4-stroke ATV’s are quiet in comparison and much more popular. If we enforce proper maintenance, regulate noise levels and emissions (Loud smoking quads get tickets), we can live with ATV’s. We live with them now, only there are no rules. I’ve seen an old beat up ATV with a man, woman and newborn baby all piled on at the same time, going down the highway like it was normal. It’s not normal. It’s dangerous and illegal, even off-road. Unless the ATV is designed for a passenger, it shouldn’t have one on it, just the operator, and no quad is designed for multiple passengers. ATV trails are a viable booming business that attracts more business. This isn’t wine and cheese country. It’s hill country and we need to take advantage of that fact.

.

I went to register my kids in Cumberland because they are shutting down these schools in Letcher County and I was told I had to pay a $1,500 tuition fee. What is up with that? Superintendent Anna Craft is crazy as heck if she thinks I am going to pay it. My kids will go wherever I want them to go. Anyone who pays this is stupid.

.

Here we go again, some politician from Hazard wants to control buying cough syrup by passing a new law. What is happening in this country? Forget the laws we have, let’s just pass a new one. The politicians that we have elected to office must be too dumb to look up what laws on already in effect and are not being enforced. Prescription drug abuse? Enforce the Medicaid, welfare and food stamp laws. Kentucky is doing more to finance the drug abuse problem than it is doing to stop it. Make the abusers responsible for their own actions. If they have a medical card and they abuse drugs suspend them from the program and stop the buying and selling of food stamps. Drug test every person that receives state assistance. Now here is the kicker: Frankfort is going to say drug testing will cost too much, that we don’t have enough investigators to investigate fraud. Let’s cut out all the unauthorized prescription payments that cost millions each year. Let’s cut out the overbilled and below-standard medical care. The cost savings will be millions. Require all pharmacies to join KASPER or lose their Medicaid payments. Make the doctors responsible for their actions by linking the drug abuse through the federal government so when they over prescribe a narcotic they lose their licenses in all states. Suspension of a license to practice in one state does not slow the pen of a drug dealer now. They just move across the state line. We have a governing body that now is passing laws to tell a doctor how to treat an illness. How did this happen? There are far more people that are honest than those who are dishonest. Because of the ignorance of some all must suffer. People abuse mouthwash, household cleaners, gasoline, paint, White-Out, and aerosol used to clean computers. The list could go on. Will they soon pass a law that we must get permission to brush our teeth and take a shower using toothpaste, body wash and shampoo? Will we be made to have a witness that we use toilet paper only for what it is meant? Drug abusers will get their drugs and those who really have medical problems won’t. I see a lawsuit coming against the legislators for practicing medicine without a license. These new laws cannot be justified and we the people should vote against any politician that has supported these attempts to violate our rights. Doctors take an oath that now has no meaning whatsoever. I hope that no politician or family member requires treatment that would require pain medication. But then again? Doctors will be leaving the state because of these restrictions on their ability to treat their patients. Many of the drug pusher doctors have probably already opened up across state lines. Did passing the laws against products used in making meth slow it’s production? It has increased every week, month and year. Enforcing the laws we have is more cost-effective than passing new ones. Hiring more investigators is more cost-effective than paying out millions in unauthorized Medicaid payments. Punish the criminals, don’t pass laws that make the innocent suffer. I don’t agree that politicians have the right to decide the quality of care that we receive.

The Jenkins School System has one of the lowest academic ratings in the state of Kentucky. The taxes you pay on registering your vehicles, utility bills, etc., are much higher than those paid by those in the Letcher County School System. The principal of the Jenkins school is also called the principal of McRoberts. There are only a few students in the McRoberts School. Most attend county schools. The cost to you would be much less and the education level would improve if McRoberts left the Jenkins system and joined the Letcher County system. If you are interested in making this change, voice your opinion. I will circulate a petition or start whatever legal move is necessary to accomplish this change if it is the will of the residents.

.

To my Prince Albert: I’m sorry you have to baby-sit. We could have had a great weekend. I will see you soon, same place and time.
