Obviously eastern Kentucky’s biggest issue this election is coal. Many people are planning to vote for Romney simply because he is not Obama and so must be in favor of coal. This is a huge misconception. Romney’s records, which are public, show that he is essentially no different from Obama, especially in his fiscal policies. There is a viable third party candidate for president, and he is Gary Johnson. He is a former two-term governor of New Mexico and will be running in all 50 states on the Libertarian ballot. He offers realistic, practical solutions for our country’s problems, and his sterling record as governor speaks for itself. It is time we break free from this ridiculous two-party system and vote for a candidate that will work to build our infrastructure and restore our constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms. For more information, his website is www.garyjohnson2012.com.

The good people of Letcher County aren’t getting what they deserve. A lot of them haven’t had reliable telephone service for ages. This is not only an inconvenience but a danger for those in poor health. Now our cemeteries have been attacked. How much longer will it be before they actually invade graves? They’re probably trying to figure out how to do it without causing a lot of noise right now. The good people are having to put up with these atrocities because the bad people aren’t getting what they deserve. Why is everything so slanted for the crook, and why don’t we have the peace of mind and protection that people in other places have? It’s time to be getting answers from our elected offi- cials and demanding better than what we’ve got.

To whoever that said Cumberland River Coal Company’s union won’t back its members: Are you the one who failed the drug test or the one who missed so much work the company had no choice but fire you.

.

I just saw where Knott County is having their trick or treat night on Saturday. I really think that Letcher County should do this too. It’s hard on the kids when they want to come home and eat and play and then have to get up early for school the next morning. I just hope whomever decides this reads this and at least considers it.

.

I just think it is a shame that someone would keep my and my seven-yearold daughter’s dog hidden away when they know I am looking for it. Four different neighbors in the Tunnel Hill area have spotted my dog, yet he is not running loose anywhere. Therefore he is in someone’s house. I just think that is really low of someone to keep a sevenyear old girl’s dog.

.

The Aaron Tippin show during the Mountain Heritage Festival was nice, except for the treatment of some disabled people sitting on the grass on the hill. Some young punks came and stood right in front of them and wouldn’t sit down. You couldn’t see the show so I ended up leaving. Young people should think about the disabled people around here.

.

Who would have ever thought that a 58-year-old woman would have gone back doing the same things she did when she was 18? Well, she isn’t pregnant now. I guess she has it made.

.

I am speaking concerning our presidential election. I just want everybody to know this election is not about Republicans and Democrats. It’s about Christians and Muslims. I believe with all my heart the Democratic Party has been hijacked. The man running is a wolf in a sheep’s clothing. All the Democrats — and I am a Democrat — need to be aware of this when it comes time to elect a new president. This president was totally against coal four years ago. What the heck do we expect? Everybody needs to get off their behinds and vote this man out of the country, where he belongs.

.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but weren’t County Judge Jim Ward and State Representative Leslie Combs two of the biggest supporters of the natural gas industry when the industry was here running roughshod over the mountain people? By virtue of the support of politicians like Ward and Combs, the natural gas companies drilled like wildfi re in eastern Kentucky and helped cause a glut of gas and a price drop that has put our coal miners out of work. I imagine they hope none of us remember their sucking up to the gas companies, but they’re sadly mistaken. Seeing them trying to kiss up to the unemployed miners is hypocrisy at its worst.

.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Letcher County Judge/Executive Jim Ward, Magistrate Keith Adams, Chetty Smith and all the others who worked relentlessly to get us a new entrance to Crases Branch. They have worked relentlessly to do so. Think how much benefit it has been to all of us. I graciously thank all who have been involved in this project. Thank you for all the things you have said and done during this time. We really appreciate it. Thank you. 78 Pin Lane, Crases Branch.

.

I overheard a loud conversation at Walmart the other day involving a laid off coal miner who actually believes he is going to be called back to work the day after Mitt Romney is elected president. I wanted to tell him the only thing that will change after this election is the name of the man in the White House, but I didn’t have the heart. Who knows, maybe President Romney will have the power to order the price of natural gas to go up and the weather to turn freezing cold in November and stay that way until May. If he can do all that, then maybe this gentleman can get back to work.

.

When you come through Hemphill there is just enough road for two cars to barely get between the houses. Some idiot is sitting in the middle of the road talking to somebody on the porch. He doesn’t know what kind of accident he just about caused.

.

I live in Thornton and I drive a Dodge. Monday night, somebody tried to steal the gas out of my gas tank and broke the lid. I’m telling you now, you bring your behind back in this yard and I will leave your brains lying in the gravel. Do you think I am joking? Try me. And I am a good shot, you lowlife piece of garbage pill head.

.

I am sitting in the drive thru at McDonald’s in Whitesburg and there is a big sign that says ‘Welcome supporters of coal.’ If I don’t support coal, should I not go there? What is their stand on abortion? Should I vote Republican or Democrat? Or just go to Wendy’s? What’s a boy to do?

.

The word in the underworld is that if you are in trouble with the law you can get certain attorneys to fix it. What a sad situation. Despite its current reputation the law was once a noble profession, providing us with people like Abraham Lincoln, John Jay, John Marshall and many others. How can those treating their profession in this manner live with themselves?

.

To a certain person: If you don’t quit hollering my name every time I walk down the road and act a fool, your hind end is going to jail. It’s called harassment.

.

I know who the Midnight Phantom is. His initials are A.M. Tune in next week and I may give more details.

.

I watched the debate and Mr. Romney clearly believes that if he tells us a big enough lie loudly in a morally outraised voice looking as handsome as possible and repeats it enough times, we will believe it. Unfortunately, it does work. One of Romney’s biggest whoppers is that he will not cut education funds for our kids or young people or Medicare for older folks, but at the same time he will give unrequested billions to the military to prepare for war and more tax cuts he says for everyone, but of course much more will go to rich people like himself. Oh yes, he will also balance the budget. Anyone who believes this still believes in Santa Claus.

.

As a citizen of the City of Jenkins I would like to tell you what they did at the last special council meeting. Mayor Kincer is wanting an ordinance where you can’t come in there and talk to him. If you say that he is not telling the truth, he wants to have you arrested. Isn’t that taking the First Amendment away from us? Can a little town like that do such a thing as that? You can’t come in there and talk to them. If you say anything out of the ordinary, they are going to have you arrested. That is taking away free speech, and I think that you all need to check into this. You all don’t do this anymore like you once did. We need to know. Thank you.

.

If you don’t have a driver’s license, you can go to California where it is said illegal immigrants don’t even have to have identification to get a driver’s license. And concerning the great debate that the president had, Romney really stumped him on that one because Romney told the truth. No wonder Obama held his head down. And you need to get out of the U.N., Mr. President. You need to back off from them as far as you can get and help get America back on its feet. I’m talking about the unemployment rate. It’s really 19 or 20 percent. The jobs that have opened up are lower paying jobs which have mostly gone to immigrants, illegal at that. I hope America doesn’t give you another chance.

.

People out there, let me tell you something. I’ve got 32 years that I have worked and I have proof of it from Social Security papers. I draw $94 more than what SSI drawers get and they have never worked a day in their lives. They also get a medical card and I don’t. And then they say, ‘I wonder why people don’t work?’ It is pitiful that I worked 32 years in the coal mine and on the surface and I draw 94 measly dollars more than a man who has never worked a day in his life. I just would like to remind everybody.

.

There has been a lot of talk about how much crime we have and also a lot of laying of blame. I think a lot of our problems are because there is no longer any fear of the law or respect for the law. The thieves are thinking that even if they get caught nothing much will happen to them, and they are probably right. This is a scary thing when they think they have a license to steal. It is time for everybody in the law to tighten it up. It’s just about out of control.

.

I’m calling about your new article called ‘Police Beat.’ I think it is just wrong to publish police dispatching, because it is going to make people not want to call the police because it is pretty obvious who called and where they live. It is going to hurt people in the long run because no one is going to want to report anything or call police.

.

Could someone please tell Governor Romney to quit smacking his lips every time he opens his mouth to say something? I’m no fan of Obama, but at least he doesn’t have that annoying smack to his lips every time he opens his mouth. It’s gotten to the point I had rather hear fingernails going across a chalkboard than Romney smacking his lips on TV.

.

It looked like a real nice parade to watch on television. I don’t know why he didn’t move all of those people out in front of the camera, though. They apparently wanted to be on TV. They looked like a bunch of cruds. The Mountain Heritage parade looked nice though.

.

Letcher County is a crooked county and I wanted everyone to know that. If you have kids and are a good parent like me, you don’t want people like the social workers involved in your life because they will take your kids for no reason. I have been there. They took a little boy that ended up getting killed. If anything happens to my oldest daughter, they will get sued. I just wanted everyone to know this is a crooked county.

.

To a certain person: You are the most beautiful angel that God has ever let live on earth and will be in heaven. I love you. You are my angel.

.

If Mitt Romney gets in there and creates 12 million new jobs, I bet 95 percent of them will be (insert slang term for oral sex).

.

I’d like to ask Superintendent Anna Craft why she can’t do something about the lady down at the Letcher School who thinks she runs the place? Every time you go down there to get your kids or have to go in the office on business the only thing she knows how to do is make everybody mad. And I’d just like to ask Ms. Craft to check into this.

.

We want to thank Letcher County Judge/Executive Jim Ward and Hettie Adams for making our Little Cowan reunion a big hit. Thank you for the proclamation you gave to us. Thanks to all the people who came and brought food and sat and told tales on each other. Thanks for all the laughs, joy and tears we had. Thanks for all the people who came from far distant places. Thanks a million, guys, and we will do it again. Just let me rest awhile.

.

Seeing it is close to Election Day on November 6, I would like to let our politicians know how I stand on certain issues. I will not vote for any politician that is for abortion, as it is the open murder of unborn children, and lawmakers that condone this should be charged with murder when they sign it into law. I will not vote for a politician that is trying to force the American people to accept the abomination of men lying with men. It is still sin and sin will still take you to eternal hell. I will not vote for liars that lie about global warming, because it is a flat lie. There will be a global warming one day when God rains fire and brimstone on this world and the elements will melt with fervent heat, but until that day Genesis 8:22 declares that heat and cold shall not cease. I will not vote for those that do not stand with Israel. We do not need cowards that have no backbone to stand for what is right. I will not vote for politicians that are trying to appease the Muslim terrorist. Instead of bowing down to the Muslims, our politicians need to inform them that we are a free nation and we will not tolerate their acts of violence. I will not vote for a politician that has no backbone to stand up for what is right. I am an American citizen and I approve of this message.

.

I voted for Mitch Mc- Connell and for this I am so ashamed. First, his old political signs were up for months following his reelection. My thanks to the PRIDE volunteers who did a good job cleaning up Mitch’s mess. He is the most wealthy man in Congress and too stingy to give a person from Kentucky work. He’s part of the do-nothing Congress. Excuse: Afraid of making President Obama look good. The only people you made look bad were yourselves, refusing to sign veterans bills or jobs bills as bad as this country needed them. I am a part of the Republicans for Obama. You cared nothing about this country. Your new plastic face didn’t help much. You now wear more plastic after the last facelift than my doll has in hers. I will campaign for whomever agrees to run against you. I checked online and you’ve been lazy all along, just now being so obvious about it. Shame on you for being so lazy and sorry. You did other parts of Kentucky dirty too. Someone called you a litterbug before, and that is so true.

.

The last three Mountain Heritages Festivals were wonderful. Whitesburg looked so pretty. Loved the street art. Reminded me of that in Rockefeller Center. The flowers, pots, and parade were great. All seemed to enjoy the day real well. Thank you, committee members.

.

It’s my understanding that the stolen copper was in the junkyard for several days without being reported and wasn’t reported by the junkyard but by an anonymous tip. The sheriff said something about additional arrests last week, but I haven’t heard anything since. Why the delay in letting the public know something?
