I saw the funniest thing on Facebook the other day and can’t stop thinking about how true it is. The person said it is funny how all the girls who were whores in high school are now married and on Facebook quoting Bible verses and telling the rest of us how we should live. Have any of you noticed the same thing?

.

In last week’s edition of Speak Your Piece, someone said they were sick of Mike Huckabee. I agree with the caller about that, as politicians make me sick in general. The children aren’t dead because God has been taken out of schools, but the whole U.S. is doomed because we have taken God out of government, schools, and most other public places. If you can read and understand what you read, then you could go back to when God started getting taken out of everything and see a correlation with all the natural disasters in the U.S. and the rest of the world. In case you haven’t noticed, there have been great increases in volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, fires, drought, tornadoes, hurricanes, and about everything else you can read about in Revelations. A gun did not take itself to school or anywhere else by itself and shoot anyone. I would think this guy and some of the other mass killers have a demon up their behind, which is the main reason for their atrocities. And your stupid remark about no one being able to get his hands on such weapons back in the Fifties and Sixties shows your intelligence. You are either too young or just ignorant or have forgotten, but you had WWII and the Korean War back then. After they were over, 30 caliber M-1 carbines with all the 30-round magazines you wanted, 30.06 Garrands, and .45 automatic pistols were among only a few available at $50 each in the back pages of most magazines. Also back then, the 1927 Thompson sub-machine gun was common even though it cost about $500 illegally. There were many others, including plenty of Browning BAR 30.06’s, even hand grenades and bazookas. In the Seventies you could buy anything they had in Vietnam, from M-60’s to mortars. There are more of these in the U.S. than you can even imagine. There are private owners of tanks in the Midwest and everything below that type of firepower. Instead of a Bible you must read Stephen King where the machines come alive and act on their own. Sorry to The Mountain Eagle for wasting so much space answering an apparent idiot, but I just could not help it.

Congratulations to Time magazine for selecting President Obama as its Person of the Year for 2012. History will record him as being among the best presidents ever. I would like to nominate Sarah Palin as ‘Bubble Head of the Year.’ I hope she runs for president in 2016; that will be a sure way to keep the Democrats in office. I would also like to nominate Speaker of the House John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for ‘Dorks of the Decade.’ They show no compassion for the working poor and the laboring middle class who have contributed more than their fair share toward making America great. It’s time for the rich to pay their fair share toward reducing the national debt and improving the lives of those who have given more than their fair share. Senator Mitch McConnell had better enjoy his last term in office. I will vote for anyone who opposes him; I don’t care if it is Joe Blow. His rich cronies don’t have enough money to buy the office for him again after the way he has trampled on the common man.

.

They cut off a lock of his hair to celebrate their success in sending him to his death. But someday she may be old and sick and need his help and wish she’d kept him safe.

.

I think there is a difference between owning a pistol and owning an assault rifle. The NRA proposal to put an armed policeman in every school is scary to me. We are sacrificing freedom for security in the name of freedom for gun owners. Why should we terrify innocent kids to make them think we live in a police state? There was a shooting next to where I work and this redneck ignored the situation while the middle class people went hysterical. The people who are around guns frequently are not really scared of guns except when middle class fools have them to protect themselves. A scared person with a gun is dangerous. I went home unexpectedly one Friday night while a teenager, and my father almost shot me. My aunt nearly shot my cousin when he went home after dark unexpectedly one Saturday night.

This is to James Ray Maggard’s aunt or uncle who commented in Speak Your Piece last week: You want the newspaper and others to stop repeating what your nephew did to Drad Fleming? Hell no. I am one of the many people who searched for Drad every day and night after your nephew beat him with a baseball bat until he was unconscious and put him in his own truck and drove him across Pine Mountain and burned him alive. No, I will not stop repeating this. I keep reliving this over and over every second of every day. Drad, unlike the lowlife piece of trash that you claim as your nephew, was a good man who worked hard in the coal mine. He was a loving father with two little boys who will never know what a wonderful father they had except through hearing the stories about him that we tell them. He is the father of a teenage daughter who needs her daddy now, but can’t even talk to him because James and Stephanie took his life. They are such greedy lowlife people they were even taking pills and having parties in Drad’s house after they coldheartedly and without any remorse killed a truly good man. I will stop repeating what they did to him when I am allowed to do to them exactly what they did Drad. Until then I will never stop repeating it. You are an idiot for even being stupid enough to put that in Speak Your Piece and ask for any type of forgiveness for him. They had no mercy for Drad or his family and I have no mercy for him. You go look Drad’s mommy in the eyes and ask her to stop. Look into the faces of his babies and see if you are coldhearted enough to want any mercy for James. If you can then you are no better than the creeps that killed my friend. You said he is accused of doing this? He is not accused. He walked into the sheriff ’s office and confessed. I think this should have been settled by now. If it were up to me it would have been an eye for an eye. I hope you can have a Merry Christmas. Drad’s family certainly won’t.

.

Hard to believe a columnist in a local newspaper thinks God is so cruel He would will the Newton massacre because He has been taken out of schools. We need more rationality and critical thinking and less myth and superstition.

.

I just saw that drug overdose deaths in eastern Kentucky have increased way over 200 percent since 2000, and that they have come, for the most part, from prescription drugs. This doesn’t speak well for UNITE. These statistics are probably about what we would get with no enforcement at all, and they point out that UNITE’s efforts are ineffective, and that their too-high salaries and large maintenance costs are not justified.

.

The lady who addressed the fiscal court on water supply conditions was treated very rudely. The county attorney and a couple of the court members were openly smirking while she was talking, and after she sat down. That lady is very bright, is well informed, has lots of information, knows where to get additional information, has a valid issue, and is very likely to be back. I think this situation will grow, has already grown sufficiently enough, in fact, to warrant a state audit. Once that is done, the smirks will likely disappear.

.

I would like to wish a little girl — well she isn’t little anymore, she is a teenager — a happy and blessed birthday. Alexandra, you are a young lady now, the big 13. May God bless you and pour his blessings on you forever and ever. Happy birthday.

.

I think the Letcher Fiscal Court needs to have another vote on the smoking ban. I think they ought to vote smoking back in. If nonsmokers don’t want to be around it, they can get up and move.

.

To my beautiful rose: I just want to thank you for helping me get on with my life. I love you very much.

.

The day after all of those babies got shot, Cowan school had their doors propped open with a rock instead of having the doors locked. Something needs to be done about that. I think the doors should stay closed during the day. They used to have stricter rules that what they have now. I don’t think the doors should be propped open.

.

President George W. Bush used our Social Security tax dollars to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They say Social Security is an entitlement, but they spent it on wars. Who paid for the wars? Where is that money coming from? I never hear that being discussed.

.

I am a concerned citizen of Letcher County. I drove through the county and I saw all of these little kids sitting on the sidewalk at the post office and different restaurants after school hours. The families of a lot of these kids cannot afford Internet service. I wish we could get free Internet service for all of these kids that can’t afford it. I know the economy is real bad right now and everybody is having a hard time, but I wish there was some way we could make Internet free for all kids in the county. Have a merry Christmas.

.

Where do some of you people come from? To the one who commented about blacks and whites: I didn’t realize there was someone that closed-minded still left alive. You have got to be ashamed of yourself.

.

I’m calling about a comment that was placed in last week’s Speak Your Piece about Dradrick Fleming. To the person who said James Ray Maggard was also an underground coal miner and is being unfairly treated in the paper: You need to keep in mind that James Ray Maggard went into the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department and admitted to killing Mr. Fleming.

.

Don’t you just love it when dullards who had no business bringing children into this world in the first place end up losing them because they are too high on dope or too sorry to work and then blame their problems on social workers and our district judge? Until these people face mandatory drug testing and are forced to keep their children in school to obtain public assistance benefits, it’s going to be one terrible and continuous cycle of generational welfare here in eastern Kentucky.

.

I went to the Kingscreek Volunteer Fire Department a couple of Saturdays ago when they were giving away food and appliances. When I got down there I was told by Bill Meade that I was not qualified to get any food or appliances. I would like to know why. I am a resident of Kingscreek. Why didn’t I qualify? Is it because I’m not related to Bill Meade? I don’t see that it is right for somebody else to be able to get items who are real good friends with Bill Meade when I can’t get anything.

.

I want to give a shout out to my granny, Brenda Brown, who gets The Mountain Eagle. I love and miss you very much. I hope you had a Christmas as amazing as you. You are an amazing, wonderful, young-looking, and beautiful granny. Near or far, together or apart, the thought of you always warms my heart. Love always, Denver and Noah.

.

To D.B.: Eat dirt. You know who this is.

.

Not being able to provide potable water to households who would gladly pay for it and desperately need it is just unacceptable here in the 21st century. There aren’t many places in the country where such a situation exists — mostly in eastern Kentucky I would bet — and most of that in Letcher County. Placing blame for this shameful situation is pointless. What is needed is an all out effort to correct it. All funding for senior centers, the recreation center, parks, tourism, and any other activity that isn’t vital to life should be reduced or curtailed until these basic needs that are taken for granted everywhere else are provided here. I don’t understand the Deane/Mill Creek situation, but I think the lady is challenging the fiscal court because there is a problem, and I wish others would come with their complaints.

(You are correct when you say placing blame for the situation is blameless, especially when you consider that it’s only been a few years since the Letcher Fiscal Court finally agreed to have the county participate in the National Flood Insurance Program. Before that vote in the mid-1990s, Letcher County was ineligible for any federal funding for water and sewer projects.)

.

I was around when they took prayer out of the school. At that time they weren’t interested in keeping prayer in schools, they were interested in keeping blacks out of schools. If they spent as much energy keeping the Bible in the schools as they did keeping blacks out of schools the Bible would probably still be in schools.

.

To a woman who keeps calling in about a certain woman’s ex- husband: There is no ex-husband and you don’t know what you are talking about. You are being lied to by a very sick person.

.

This is concerning the guy who was put in jail for talking on Facebook about how he hates kids: The sheriff knows he lives next door to Blackey Head Start and that something needed to be done about this. I’m sure people will say the guy in question wouldn’t harm anyone. Well, I’m sure that is also what they said about the guy in Connecticut. We need to get him out of there.

.

I don’t know why the county doesn’t take more caution with free stuff they give for the needy. The Kingscreek Fire Department says they give to the needy, but it always seems that one man gets all of the stuff and gives it to whomever he wishes. I think this needs to be checked into.

.

In response to the person taking up for the man accused of sending out nude pictures of little girls: First of all, there were pictures of at least 16 underage girls on his cell phone that he forwarded to other people. Not just one. Second, the kid, as you referred to him, turns 20 this month. And third, there is so much more involved in this case that will become public soon, like revealing the names of several adults who received these pictures, some of whom were and are people in positions of authority. A lot of this information will get swept under the rug in this corrupt county, but hopefully there are still some honest people here that will make sure those involved will be prosecuted.

.

This is response to the caller who made the comment about Drad Fleming being a coal miner at the time of his death: You should be ashamed of yourself to be mad because the paper says what he did for a living before he was murdered. That is not something to be mad about. You need to be upset that you have a nephew who did what he did. Not only is he accused of doing this, he admitted to it. Also, what is not fair is that James Maggard gets visits from his family while Drad’s mother, father, his two kids and the rest of his family didn’t get to see him before they had to put him in the ground.

.

If you ask me, James Maggard and that tramp don’t deserve to breathe air. They are good-for-nothing people who will be punished for eternity for what they have done. I don’t even know Drad Fleming, but it seems to me he was way better of a person than any of the three people who allegedly murdered him.

.

This is to the person who thinks the Bible speaks against interracial marriage: Moses married an Egyptian, a black African woman. Mary went against Moses and ridiculed him for this. God gave her a good dose of leprosy. It’s like if you like being white skinned I will make you even whiter. There’s not going to be any separate cities or countries in heaven. Blacks and whites are not going to be separated up there. There is so much prejudice around here with my friends and family. I was for quiet some time. I went through a horrible divorce this past year and I started messaging a black guy on Facebook. We corresponded for several months and I fell deeply in love with him. He made me dance. He made me live. He made me love again. And I will always be grateful for him.

.

I want to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. This is to all of my family and friends and my church family.

.

This is to the person who said blacks and whites shouldn’t marry: Well, for one thing a person doesn’t always choose whom they fall in love with. And honey, you may have a little black in you, or a little Mexican or Scottish. Just love one another. Forget it. It will be okay.

.

I have never called Speak your Piece before. I ask that you will print this. I would like to commend Janet Hacker for her letter to the editor in last week’s Mountain Eagle about the drugged driver hitting her grandson. It is ridiculous that this keeps happening over and over and over again. I also want to comment about the incident in ‘Police Beat’ about the lady at Kingscreek who had the copper stolen. That was my mother-in-law. We did not call them on Wednesday. It was Thursday morning. They didn’t cut the wire going to the pump house. They crawled under the house and cut the copper water lines right out of the house. Water was gushing everywhere. The cutters were lying there on the ground with fingerprints all over them. Their light was still under the house. We called and waited three hours. I don’t know if the deputies were busy or what, but we waited three hours and they never showed up. We called the sheriff ’s office back and they assured us they would get a police officer right over and told us not to touch anything. By 9:30 p.m. Thursday we still had no call back and no officer. We just went ahead and fixed it and chalked it up as, ‘What are you going to do?’ You can’t get anybody to do anything in this county. Thank you.

.

I would like to make a comment about the person who said blacks and whites marrying should not be: He or she is silly. It doesn’t matter what color you are, all that matters is your heart. People need to look at others the same. We are all the same. We all have the same red blood going through our veins. You need to stop and think about what you are saying because that is so prejudiced.

.

To the person trying to tell us how to talk: This is southeastern Kentucky. We don’t say bathe, we say bath or wash. We ain’t going to change our Appalachian twang for someone so snobby to blast us for saying ‘Illi-noise’ for Illinois. If you don’t like the way we talk, move way up north where you can get that proper English. This is hillbilly territory and there ain’t a damn thing wrong with talking with an Appalachian slang. Get over yourself, because we don’t appreciate city folks putting down for the way we talk. Now, I’m going to go wash some clothes and bath and call Illi-noise.

.

We saw the Hemphill hooker going in the church house. She isn’t fooling anybody. We know what she is doing.

.

Judge Jim Ward and Magistrate Keith Adams, how can you all look yourselves in the mirror the way you treat the people on Long Branch? You go in there and blacktop a little here and there, but then skip and leave big holes and busted-up blacktop to go other places. There are 19 houses in there and they have no bridge. You need your behinds kicked plum out of the county.

.

No, dyeing your hair is not a sin. I wish that was the worst sin I had to worry about. I’m still alive. The world hasn’t ended yet.

.

It is much better to be a wise cougar than an old sinful coot.
