Speak Your Piece

Tell us what’s on your mind. No need to give your name.

Call 633-7508 from 9 am Tuesday to 9 am Friday.

In addition to the telephone and the U.S. Mail, The Mountain Eagle accepts comments to Speak Your Piece by electronic mail. Our address is: mtneagle@bellsouth.net

To the best father in the world: Happy birthday, Dad. I love you so very much. May your day be full of joy and happiness.

.

What’s on my mind is Jenkins Mayor G.C. Kincer and the city council members, especially Rebecca Amburgey. G.C., when I came up there and confronted you over not letting me shoot fireworks at Jenkins Homecoming Days and said you were a bald-faced liar, you said you do the best you can do for the citizens of Jenkins. The best thing you can do for the citizens of Jenkins is to step down out of that chair and let anybody else sit in that chair, except Todd DePriest because he would do no better. Rebecca, you and G.C. sat up there at the city council meeting and laughed when you made up and passed an ordinance because I came up there and used the wrong body language and was mad and aggravated. Yes, I was. Now I’m wondering what kind of city ordinance the council is going to pass to take care of Mayor Kincer this time. By the way, this is Carl ‘King’ Addington in Rocky Hollow.

.

Whatever happened to the girl who was in on killing the little boy a couple of years ago?

.

To a certain woman: Don’t compare yourself with what Jesus did because He was never that filthy. I hope your ex finds him a good woman, because he deserves better than trash like you.

.

What? The Boy Scouts of America is considering no longer being hateful to and dishonest about gays? What changed? The Bible? God’s Word? Next they’ll be letting rationalists in.

.

I’m just wondering why Magistrate Terry Adams sits at the fiscal court meetings and twiddles his thumbs and never talks. He won’t speak up for the people of District Two. That is why we put him in there. County Judge Jim Ward won’t let him talk. Jim is the one who won’t let the public speak either. I loved it when Magistrate Wayne Fleming said after the doctor praised the recreation center that the center is a waste of money. I signed in to speak, but I was passed over like two others were. All I was going to do was thank Judge Ward and Terry for fixing Shelby Fork. That’s all. I wasn’t going to say anything about water. Jim Ward needs to be removed from his office. He shows poor leadership. He can’t run this county or his office. It is out of control. He can’t work under pressure. He took my freedom of speech and my right to speak at a public meeting. It makes me wonder where the county is heading.

.

Just got some disturbing news concerning my wonderful brother asking all Facebook friends for their special request that God will put a hedge around him protecting him from the work of Satan. Signed, J.G.

.

I just wanted to let everyone know how pleased we are that LCCHS football coach Paul Rains has decided to leave us. Maybe now we will get someone who actually knows these boys. I just wish he could have taken Mr. Personality with him. In case no one knows who I am talking about, that would be the basketball coach. He has no rapport with the parents. He has no kind of personality. If we could just get rid of him, we will be doing very well.

.

To Superintendent Anna Craft: Please be smart about this and consider Terry Howard as our next football coach.

.

The county judge is saying that we shouldn’t be surprised or complain about using coal severance to pay for the recreation center because the Letcher Fiscal Court told everybody that. Well, the problem is in what they meant. I assumed they meant that coal severance would be used to build the building, just like building a water system, but after it was built and operating, user fees would pay the loan, just like they do in our water systems. Nobody would have imagined that the plan was to use coal severance for thirty years. If we were doing that on every water system or other building we’ve put into this county, then we’d probably be obligated to pay ten million a year in severance tax, which is ten times what we’re getting these days, and the county would have gone bankrupt years ago. Why does anybody think the Rec Center is so special that it’s more important than clean water? Yet that’s what the Fiscal Court seems to be saying: ‘We’ll by God have the Rec Center if it takes every dime of coal severance and every other dime the county has or can extort from the citizens in taxes for the next thirty years, so stop complaining.’

.

Concerning the young lady who is seeing an old man twice her age: Maybe she likes his tractor.

.

To the drug pushers from Blackey and Hazard coming to McRoberts: I just want to let you know I am going to get in touch with the attorney general. Don’t come back to my house pushing your drugs. And stay off of my phone.

.

What is the deal with the food pantry in Whitesburg? We used to be able to go there on certain days of the week and be treated decent, but now anytime you go there to get help with food almost everyone there makes you feel like scum. Do the workers at the food pantry buy that food out of their own money? I thought the food was donated by churches and businesses in this area. When you go there now they make you feel like you are asking for the last bite of food out of a starving Ethiopian baby’s mouth. Is this what our businesses, churches and citizens are supporting? The people volunteering don’t have to act like that …

(No good deed goes unpunished, huh? To what organizations do you volunteer your time and effort?)

.

To that so-called skank mother who has missed court in Letcher County four or five times by saying she is hurt or sick: What about your kids? Your mom and dad have lied many times to keep you out of that courtroom because they are afraid you are going to go to jail. Guess what? You are going to go before it is over. And the churchgoing people from a certain church in Neon have lied like dogs. God will get all of you for this.

.

To a man who lives at Lakeside in Jenkins: You think you are tough stuff but you are pure trash for what you have not done for your baby.

.

To a certain old man: You better watch your step. You have been caught. I’ll forgive one time, but never again. You better think if what you get from her is worth everything you have?

.

I’m so glad a certain couple got back together. They really love each other. They belong together.

.

This is to individuals who are putting posters all over town wanting a job and saying you are honest and trustworthy: Have you told those folks how many times you have been busted for drugs? I think I would change my mind about that job.

.

What the citizens of the county need to know about the recreation center is factual, specific information instead of endorsements. How much is the annual payment? What is the interest rate? What is the amortization period? There has been enough attention to this issue to justify a clear explanation.

.

I’ve got something I need to put in Speak Your Piece. I’m not one to do something like this, but I saw today where someone said something I do not agree with. If you are working and get paid under the counter and do other jobs and tell your lawyer that you aren’t getting paid anything, that’s a lie. What makes it so bad is you are going to church and sitting there like you are a Christian. Anybody who tells a straight out lie is not a Christian. I’m glad I am not your judge. God will give you a judge. I’d be scared for Him to judge me if I was telling lies like that.

.

I am a 76-year-old man who wants to know why you all don’t write anything about our mayor, G.C. Kincer. You write about all of the other officials, but you don’t say one word about him. So why don’t you start doing your job? And if you don’t you need to get out of the newspaper business.

(This is not the Internet, which means we cannot deal in rumor and innuendo — unless we really do want to go out of business because we can’t afford to pay the legal bills we would face after a libel suit.)

.

I just don’t get why some people are against the Letcher County Recreation Center. It’s easier to gripe and find what is wrong with everything than to actually be positive and realize that people in this area are benefiting from that state-of-the-art facility. I’m tired of hearing that there isn’t anything to do in this county. Where did teenagers hang out before the rec center? That gym is packed every day with kids playing basketball and volleyball after school. They are spending time with other kids and getting exercise as well as staying away from drugs and getting into trouble. Adults now have a safe place to exercise and get healthy. It is a clean, family-friendly place to go. We are lucky to have this facility and everyone should embrace it and be proud of it.

.

To a certain woman: When I met you 30-some years ago you were 18 years old and pregnant. You took more men to bed in one night than I have ever been with women.

(Sometimes you’ve just got to let it go.)

.

Speak Your Piece is a wonderful part of the newspaper that everyone enjoys. However, when someone puts a comment in here that is way too long, it doesn’t get read because it is boring. Without meaning any disrespect to anyone, there is no reason to put religion in the newspaper. We are all level headed and know what to do with our lives. So keep your religious comments to yourself, mainly the ones that are too long to read.

.

I think there may be a little bit of favoritism at Jenkins High School. One lady gets to wear slick pants and T-shirts while the rest of us have to dress up. What is fair for the goose is fair for the gander. If she can wear her slick pants and T-shirts, we should all be able to wear them.

.

To the person who commented in last week’s Speak Your Piece about having a pro-gun coalition: When you find out when and where just let us know. I have lots of friends who pack guns, too. Just let us know when and where and we’ll all be there.

.

If anyone knows how to get in contact with Otis Brown’s son who lives in Lexington, would you please put it in Speak Your Piece next week?

.

I have been hearing a lot of stories and theories about Letcher County’s fiscal condition, mostly stemming from questions about the recreation center funding. I am concerned that, if these stories are true, a lot of county employees and contractors may be blind-sided by unexpected cutbacks and layoffs. I think the county judge should publish a detailed financial report, with facts and figures, not opinions, showing just what the situation is and how it is likely to affect all the other county programs.

(Because of the actions of Kentucky state legislators, county governments and school systems are no longer required to publish detailed financial reports in the newspaper unless the fiscal court or school board in question votes to do so.)

.

This is in regards to whoever wrote about the lady in Isom lying about getting her dog stolen. To those people: Yes, you did steal the dog. That is why the cops pulled in the driveway and you had to bring the dog back. And if you don’t leave my mother alone I will come find you and I will deal with you face to face. You know who I am. You won’t be able to hide.

.

Hey, black lung committee. Jerry breathed more dust in one week than a certain other man did in 22 years, but the other man draws black lung. Jerry worked 15 years more than the other man but Jerry doesn’t draw it. What is wrong here? I think our government has screwed Jerry.

.

I read in The Mountain Eagle last week where Jenkins had a special-called meeting and Mayor Pro- Tem Pud Shubert presided over the meeting where the council voted to borrow $100,000 from the League of Cities. We didn’t elect Pud Shubert. The people elected G.C. Kincer, and you people are not telling us what is going on. We need some help in Jenkins and I’m asking you to help us. Let us know if it is legal for Shubert to run a meeting. We need some help over here and no one is helping us. Please try to help us.

(With all due respect, we did tell you everything that went on at the January 28 meeting. The job of a mayor pro-tem is to assume the responsibilities of a mayor in his or her absence. Also, Jenkins has a top-notch city attorney who is paid very little for his work. You can bet that if the meeting had been handled the wrong way he would have stopped it.)

.

I want to wish my sister Olivia Grace Meyer a happy second birthday. Love, your little sister Emma Paige Meyer.

.

Extra, extra, read all about it. I think The Mountain Eagle could print an extra edition now just to cover all the gossip in Jenkins City Hall.

.

There is an individual at Jenkins City Hall who could use a personality transplant. After nearly 30 years on the job she still hasn’t learned to say five simple words, ‘Hello, may I help you?’

.

A friend told me that God wouldn’t allow global warming because God controls the weather. Maybe God is letting us kill our own foolish selves.

.

So I should go to the recreation center and ride a bike and bowl and play basketball, huh? Well, it takes me about an hour to get to Whitesburg and a lot of gas. Who’s going to pay for that, and for the money to play the games? That rec center is for people around Whitesburg who can afford it. It’s probably a good thing for the doctors and lawyers but it’s no use to me.

(Don’t you think you’re being a little unfair in saying the recreation center is intended only for people in Whitesburg? After all, there is a reason Letcher County’s founding fathers elected to build the county courthouse in Whitesburg. Their reasoning was that Whitesburg is located in the center of the county. So where would you have had the county government build the recreation center?)

.

Everybody says stay at home and spend your money in this area. Okay. I would if it was worth the time. You can buy an appliance at a certain store in Letcher County — refrigerator, stove, washer — and they charge $50 to deliver and $25 to set it up. You can go to a certain store in Wise, Va., and they will deliver free of charge and set it up free of charge. I don’t know about you, but I am going to Virginia.

.

A few weeks ago, The Mountain Eagle told how many people in Letcher County had died from drug overdoses in 2012. The very next week The Eagle had an article about a man who was arrested for selling drugs. The article said police took his drugs and money. The next week this guy was out of jail. So what is the use of putting these drug dealers in jail if the lawyers and judges are going to let them right back out? If these people weren’t selling drugs, other people couldn’t buy the drugs and overdose. We have a big, big problem.

.

Happy birthday to Olivia Meyer on February 8. You are a very special and sweet little girl. I have been with you since day one. I have watched you grow up so fast. I love you very much. Love, Aunt Missy.

.

I want to say hello to Emma Paige Meyer. Aunt Missy loves you, little boo boo.

.

Happy birthday to Olivia Meyer on February 8. Love, Mommy and Daddy.

.

We live in Pound, Virginia. We are originally from around your area and grew up over there. We’ve been buying The Mountain Eagle and we just can’t see to read it. We are getting older. We are in our 70s. Are you all going to make your print larger? We can’t read it unless we use a magnifying glass.

(Believe it or not, we increased our type size beginning with the January 2 edition. That said, last week’s type was much smaller because a press breakdown in Norton, Va., where we are usually printed, required the paper to be sent to Bristol, Tenn., for an emergency printing. The Bristol press uses smaller newsprint than Norton, which meant Bristol had to reduce our pages to get them to fit.)

.

G.C. Kincer, the mayor of Jenkins, was gone for a week. What can we do about this? We need to know. We need to get rid of him. We need someone to tell us a few things.

.

I wonder if you could get fired from a bank if you called someone’s residence and pretended to be someone else just to be nosey. It’s none of your business and it is not true.

.

No doctor should be able to prescribe Suboxone to patients. If you are on drugs you ought to be sent to rehab instead of being able to go to a clinic. These people are out on these roads, and I for one have kids and family out on the road. The government is dumb for allowing these clinics.

.

To a certain woman: Everybody knows you weren’t the woman they thought you were once your past caught up with you. Now everybody knows you are trash and that you count for nothing.

.

Letcher County state highway department, we really appreciate you salting our roads, but you are driving much too fast. If an elderly person or a child would be out in the yard just simply playing in the snow, they will be hit by the snow you throw as far as 50 feet in the air. Please slow down.

.

To the person who stole the blue zipper bag that had a little bit of money in it from a shopping buggy at Save- A-Lot: You know who you are. We all know who you are. It is a shame that you would take this old lady’s money and stuff that she had and keep it instead of returning it. You ought to be thinking about what the Lord will say to you on Judgment Day. By the way, the camera at the store recorded who took the bag. I suggest that you return the bag or else.

.

Hello folks! Happy 20th anniversary to Jody and Dianna Barron on February 4. Moving right along to birthdays for this month: Jamie Pack, Eddie Sumpter, Opal Boggs, Cody Fields, Xavier, our brother’s grandson, Kathleen Brock, Joseph Pack, Valentine’s Day, and Johnthan Pack as well. Thank you, Stanley Pack.

.

Please don’t air our church problems in the community. Most of us realize the insensitive mistake our church made in reducing our secretary’s work schedule at the same time we eliminated a custodial position. Time will magnify the error of these actions. Pray that God will be more merciful to use than we have been to others.

.

Concerning the President’s inaugural speech, I think his speech was repugnant as he has rejected God’s law. His speech was sickening as he compared the rights of gays to the racial segregation from the 1960’s. Listen, I hope the President reads this. It is not a sin to be born black or white, for God created us all equal, but it is an abomination for men to lay with men. God’s people will never accept this, for sin will take you to eternal hell. A person is either blessed or cursed, and this President has brought a reproach on our nation, and brought a curse on our nation because of his ungodly stand against God’s word.

.

Have you noticed the similarities between Whitesburg and Jenkins? Both have mayors that are ex-husbands of our school system leader. Both mayors have ushered in alcohol sales in their communities. What’s next? Are we to expect a push for alcohol sales in our schools? Don’t laugh, just remember you heard it here first. In my opinion, neither mayor should have been elected to public office, but who cares? Certainly not the public in general nor the voters in particular. We get exactly what we deserve.

(Actually, the voters of Whitesburg and Jenkins voted to legalize alcohol sales in their respective communities — and by large margins at that. So far, there have been no alcohol sales in Jenkins because there is no facility that meets the requirements of that town’s restaurantonly ordinance.)

.

To a certain man that I met a long time ago and then again at Walmart in Ewing: It was wonderful to see you at last. I knew you would contact me after I let you know where I was. It’s like we’ve never been apart at all. Can’t wait to see you again.

.

On Wednesday morning, January 30, as I was driving past Dry Fork Market on my way to work, a large black tanker truck pulled out on the road directly in my path. He obviously did not look; he just pulled right out on the road. I was forced to veer towards the oncoming lane but managed to stop on the centerline. A large truck was coming in the opposite direction. If the road had been wet, it probably wouldn’t have ended well. I had my 86-year-old mother-in-law with me. If I had wrecked and survived it, I would have pulled that truck driver out of his seat and beat the living crap out of him.
