I have been laid off from my job for about a year and my unemployment options are running out. When I ask people in Letcher County about a job they act like I am asking them for about a million dollars. I am just thinking about getting on a check, drawing food stamps and being done with it. After about 25 to 30 years of work, I think it is about time for me to lie around like about 70 percent of the others in Letcher County do.

.

Concerning the story about counties no longer having to fund he office of constable, I never could understand why we needed constables in the first place.

.

I’m looking for someone who knows how to write and read shorthand. Please reply in next week’s Speak Your Piece.

.

To the person who was calling in about people not liking hillbillies and our slang and our twang: I am proud to be a hillbilly, but I am also proud of our kids today who are getting away from the hillbilly slang and twang because people put you down for that. And I put people down for their twang, too. For example, who can understand what Piers Morgan is saying? He spits, stutters, sputters and goes on and on just like us hillbillies. It is not good. Today’s teachers are doing a good job in teaching our kids to have a good vocabulary. I’m proud of you. Keep it up.

.

I was at a funeral the other day and heard some good news. I heard two men say Everidge Funeral Home might be building a crematory here in Whitesburg. That would be so nice and generous of them. We guess everyone needs one closer than Lexington and that would be so good if we could have one. Congratulations to them if they are going to do it.

.

Just wanted to say a belated happy birthday to Jaz, whose birthday was February 27. Love ya, Sis.

Please allow me to add my comments about school politics. The makeup of the local school board during the past 50 to 60 years has been a truly mixed bag. A few members have been individuals dedicated to improving the educational process and educational opportunities for children. Some members have been there strictly for personal gain. Others have no idea where they are or why they are there. We can probably visualize persons in each category. The good ones are usually one-termers. The personal gainers are usually detected and removed or forced to resign. The others are usually long-term members who become rubberstamps for the administration. Some of the latter are around today. It is refreshing to see new leadership on the board after the stale leadership of the past dozen years, but the question very soon will be this: Has the future superintendent already been handpicked?

.

What about that hellfirebelieving preacher getting that little old girl pregnant? People, if he had believed in hell he wouldn’t have done that.

.

I attend the Boone Fork Senior Citizens Center at Fleming for dinner each day and a lot of us men still can’t figure out why the women swoon for the man in that GMC truck. He has them wrapped around his finger. They all want to sit beside him and eat dinner. None of us other men have a chance.

.

This is for my family members who went to Pikeville: If you set up my family member for the kill, I will have my eye on you.

.

To a certain person: You are still the light of my life. You are my angel and I love you.

.

Concerning the comment about churches going overseas to help others: A lot of the people in Kentucky won’t even try to help themselves.

.

To a certain person: First of all, you are not my neighbor. You are just unfortunate enough to live next to me. In the second place, when you turn the heat up you better stand back because the people who are going to get burned are the young druggies, you and your brother.

.

I am fourteen years old and my mom dumped me because her boyfriend said he didn’t want me around and she blames it on me. I know you hate me, Mom. You never believed me. I thought you loved me, but you love the new house, phone and dog better.

.

Me and my wife don’t have kids. We are swingers. She goes to bed with whatever man she wants to and I go to bed with whom I want to. We have fun.

.

I think Wayne Fleming is doing a great job. Keep it up, Wayne. We’ll all vote for you if you decide to run.

.

This is a comment for the Letcher Fiscal Court. Why is it that Gary Rogers has to come to each court meeting and tell you what to do? Whatever he says, every one of you says ‘yes, Gary.’ Is he on the payroll of the fiscal court? He tells you what to do every month.

.

I saw where they may do away with the position of constable in Kentucky. It won’t be anything new to District Four. We haven’t had one in the last 20 years. He has never done anything except collect some money every month.

.

This is to all of the voters of Letcher County: We have seen in the past how Magistrate Wayne Fleming has been such a good advocate for the county. Unfortunately I think he is sitting in the wrong seat. If he is interested in running for the county judge’s seat, let’s encourage him to run so we can vote in someone who has all of the county’s interest at heart. There are some things that need to change on the fiscal court. There are some people who need to resign. Let’s encourage Wayne Fleming to run for county judge if he is interested.

.

I just read where we lost another freedom, the Fourth Amendment which guards against unwanted searches. An executive order signed by Obama made it dead in the water. Also, we have lost our freedom of speech and right to protest under the First Amendment …

.

Some of you pro-gun guys who promised to come to the meeting last week didn’t show up. There is still a lot of interest in this. I am hoping to have another meeting at the senior citizens hall in the next few weeks. If you will leave your name and number at the local libraries, I will get to you. I am doing this in Virginia and I am seeing a big response over there.

.

To the woman who said her husband got laid off, but was dogging people on Facebook for saying things about President Obama: I would like to know who you are, because anyone who is stupid enough to be for Obama I don’t want on my friends list.

.

Probably the most used and abused political office is that of a school board member. We can all remember school board members who have been removed or had to resign from office because of conflict of interest or other misuse of authority. But the most bizarre case ever has to be the board member who was chairman and neglected to pay his property tax for many years. And on top of that he licensed his vehicles in Tennessee to avoid paying property taxes. And we all know property taxes go to pay for schools. Even with that information made public, he was only narrowly defeated at the polls. After his indictment for his vehicle transactions in Tennessee, his attorney negotiated a plea bargain that gave him a slap on the wrist and the admonition not to do it again. Can you believe four years later he ran for school board again and won the election? And this time he was arrested for selling drugs within the restricted distance of a school. He hadn’t left his outlaw characteristics behind. He then had to resign again from the school board. Once again the justice system slapped him on the wrist and sent him on his way. What does that say about our justice system? Probably the same as it says about our voters in Letcher County.

.

I live in Haymond. I am 59 years old. I am a retired miner. Codell Gibson is the poorest excuse for a magistrate that I have ever witnessed. He won’t answer his phone. He never answers his phone. He won’t speak up during the fiscal court meetings. Wayne Fleming is doing an excellent job trying to say what is right. The recreation center is nothing but a joke. It is a drain of taxpayers’ money. The government channel started off as a good thing, but it now has the same thing over and over.

.

I love you, J.T.

.

Oh, the joy of two selfconceited sluts. Ha. Ha. Ha.

.

No, Granny didn’t quit up on the mountain as it has been told around town. Granny is not off sick. Granny is fine. Granny was fired and replaced by someone who is not a member of the auxiliary or anything. I just want all of my friends out there to know that I didn’t quit and the other girls didn’t quit. We were fired.

.

All of these years my heart burned for you. Why? Because it is a block of coal, black gold.

.

To a certain person: I have heard the music day after day, week after week. Why can’t you come to me and tell me what is going on? If you can’t come to me and tell me, you could write it and put it in the newspaper. I think you owe me that for all of the love I have loved you with.

.

Hey, neighbor. You need to confront instead of hiding behind a computer hacking. Loser.

.

To a certain person: This spell you think you have put on me because all the bad luck I am having, well, my luck it isn’t you. It’s just that people have bad luck. I don’t know why you think you can put a spell on anybody. You think you have a higher power or something? You are the one who is having bad luck. You are living with a woman whom you can’t stand. Your son is messed up. Your daughter is messed up. Your life is messed up. You don’t even have a vehicle to drive. You are riding somebody else’s vehicle. How do you think I am having bad luck? I just broke my leg. That will heal. What you have won’t heal. Have a good day, neighbor.

.

I’m 70 years old and have been a Democrat all of my life, but after watching County Judge Jim Ward and them and I am going to become a Republican. I am going to change my politics because they have made a Republican out of me. Winston Meade, Jim Ward and the five magistrates are a joke. I am going to change my politics. I know one vote won’t mean much, but it will be one vote they won’t get anymore.

.

It’s a terrible thing that a grandma turns 58 years old, divorces her husband and goes back to the lifestyle she lived when she was 18 years old.

.

To a certain person: Not a day goes by that I don’t think of you. I hope you are doing well. Remember, you are always on my mind and forever in my heart. Dew.

.

I’d just like to say if you live in Whitesburg Housing Project you are very lucky. Low rent, no utility bills, Meals on Wheels, and now you have drugs on wheels. I can’t believe the same lowlife that took my mother for her doctor’s appointments was selling drugs. What happened to him? Never heard any more after his arrest.

.

Happy birthday to Cassel Boggs, whose birthday was March 1. Next, Little Sumoe up at our home church. Happy 50th anniversary to Dean and Joyce Wilson who live at the mouth of Cowan.
