Was it an accident or deliberate? If it was an accident, someone was very careless, but we tend to believe it was deliberate. We live at Goldenrod Drive at Thornton and suffered a great loss last Thursday. Our beautiful Shepherd mix was poisoned with anti-freeze by one of our neighbors. For a period of time there were several loose dogs in the neighborhood. The dog warden is constantly in the neighborhood because of complaints, but our dogs are not destructive, mean or a threat to anyone. They may venture a short distance down the street only because a neighbor with dogs puts out food, but ours mostly stay in their own yard. Every time the dog warden has been on our property he has found our dogs on our porch. Whoever poisoned our dog lives in very close proximity of our home because our dogs do not venture very far beyond our own driveway. Whoever you are, you deserve a dose of whatever you gave to that beautiful animal. You are cruel, heartless and lower than something that crawls on its belly. You are a coward. If you have a problem you should talk to the owner rather sneak around and destroy a loving pet and cause a lot of heartache. That dog was so loved. Her owner is so heartbroken.

.

My name is Fickle Thompson and it’s my turn to speak my piece. First, these little brats I have for neighbors need stay off my lawn and quit urinating in my bushes. I work hard to keep them planted and pretty like that. Now to all of you here: Why would you go to a newspaper and anonymously tell the people that are bothering you to shut the heck up or threaten them? That’s completely avoiding the point of what you want done with the situation. You’re sounding like a bunch arguing preschoolers fighting over a box of crayons. Come on now. You’re from Kentucky I presume, and most of the people I know from Kentucky don’t act like a bunch of wimps and complain and whine to a newspaper. That doesn’t do anything for you or the matter at hand besides give you a place to rant. And thank you for listening to my rant that says some of you are complete idiots.

.

If the Neon Post Office is dirty it fits right in with the rest of that filthy town. All the Neon City Council has done is bring the focus on the rest of that nasty town. They all should get a broom and water hose and clean it. Look how clean Jenkins and Whitesburg are. And the council members should learn how to conduct the people’s business with some class. Maybe they can take some lessons by watching Whitesburg’s meetings.

.

I think it’s ridiculous how the mayor and city council of Fleming-Neon are being petty about a dirty floor at the local post office where there are bigger issues at hand. First of all, Mayor Polis, you need to clean up your dirty streets. Every time I am in Neon I feel like I have driven to the ghetto mixed with a splash of ghost town. I get that dirty all over feeling. It’s the kind of dirty Dial will not wash off. Also, the Neon School needs to be permanently condemned. It’s a shame I must send my child to that standing biohazard next year. Going from Martha Jane Potter to that dump is like moving from the Ritz Carlton to the roach-infested Suburban Motel. Next week will the mayor and council complain the Dollar General Store’s windows aren’t clean enough? Get out of your bubble and take care of the real problems.

I would like to respond to recent comments in Speak Your Piece regarding the mission trip to Haiti by people from First Baptist Church Whitesburg. First of all, not one penny of church offerings or tithes was used to sponsor or send the people to Haiti. There were two soup and sandwich lunches held after church to give people an opportunity to support the students going on the trip. Money made from these lunches helped the students pay for their airfare and lodging. The food for the lunches was paid for by the money donated as well as generous donations of food from members of the grief ministry in the church. The remainder of the students’ costs was paid by themselves and by specific donations from friends and family who designated the money for their trips. The other team member paid for her trip out of her own pocket. Church members in this church as well as other local churches, donations from the local hospital, local doctors, local pharmacies, individual people and local clinics donated items or money to make 130 baby bundles for children in Haiti. One-half of children in Haiti died by age 15. Most of the children are malnourished and are infected with malaria and parasitic worms. I am so thankful for the generosity of Christian people who willingly donated their time and money to meet the needs of those people and children in the world who have so little. In regards to meeting needs in this county rather than overseas, I would like to quote from a recent article Rev. Tony Brown shared in his column in the church newsletter: ‘Last week we spent many hours in ministry to the needy here in Letcher County. The benevolence ministry in your church may sometimes spend hundreds of dollars a week in local ministry. We have a backpack ministry to help feed local school children. A team went out to West Liberty in the aftermath of the tornado. These are some of the many things your church is doing. Ministry needs are incredible and ongoing.’ The great commission in Matthew 28 tells us to go to all the world and share the good news of Jesus. We as Christians are to be ‘the hands and feet of Jesus’ in this world to meet the needs of people. May we as the church never tire of doing God’s work.

Two years ago I had a nasty brother and a nasty sister put me in the crazy house. This nice psychologist asked me all kinds of questions about my childhood and what had been done to me. Did you have a good mommy and daddy? Yep. Did you have a good brother and sister? Yep. Did you have good neighbors? Yes. She said were you ever molested and I told her no that everybody was always good to me. I said what about you, doc, were you ever molested? She said yes I was. She said my daddy molested me from the time I was a little girl up until I went through high school and left for college. She told me that is the reason she went to school to be a psychologist — to talk to people about how they have been treated. She was a nice lady and she was honest.

.

To all you boys and girls out there in the past or in the future who are being molested by people in your family: 99.99 percent of their protection is your silence. Tell it on them.

.

Everything that a certain nurse wrote in her letter was that she had no sex life. Now that she is single I guess she has a great sex life.

.

I still attend the Boone Fork Senior Citizens Center in Fleming. This old gentleman who drives the blue GMC truck still has all the women hanging after him. He denies it, but it is true. I keep my eye on him and watch. Some of us other elderly gentlemen don’t have a chance with these women and we think they should treat us like they do him. They act like he is a big prize. We’re let down by it. We’d just like to get some attention to like he does.

.

The only time I was in a mud hole was when I was with you and I don’t want you and I don’t want you to help me do nothing. You need to get over it and move on. You aren’t anything to brag about.

.

I just read the Mountain Eagle article about Neon officials saying the town post office is a disgrace. Well, as a Neon resident, I would like to say that the Neon Post Office is probably the cleanest place in the whole town. The whole town itself is a dirty disgrace. This is a joke. Do they not have anything better to do with their time? I mean why do we elect these people if they are just going to sit there and talk about the post office being dirty when the town and the water system is a joke? This really made me mad. I think something needs to be brought up about it because the whole town is a disgrace.

.

Coal miners now ask what Obama ever did for them. He has done more for them with black lung benefits than anyone since Carl Perkins. However, I think they should just give the money back if they don’t like him.

.

The problem with Kentucky coal is Kentucky Power Company, not the EPA. Coal companies up north are okay because the power companies there put in filters while Kentucky Power spent all of its time fighting and waiting for something to come up. Now they are going to switch to gas. It’s Kentucky Power’s fault, not the EPA’s.

.

Could someone give Magistrate Codell Gibson a map of Letcher County with District Three highlighted? He is never up here. He is never around the district he is supposed to represent.

.

If you take the population of the county and take the membership count of the recreation center and divide it and add about 100 more for well-to-do people and divide that into the population of the county, people will see how benefi- cial the rec center is. It is a waste of taxpayers’ money.

.

This is one time I would like to congratulate the Letcher Fiscal Court for affirming and standing up for our Second Amendment right. I think that was a good thing the court did. I would like to give a shout-out to Wayne Fleming and Terry Adams for trying to stick up for the poor people, the working class people, the taxpayers of the county. It is easy to spend the money, but it is really hard to take it in.

.

To a certain person: If you think I have forgotten about you, I haven’t. I still have the harmonica, the jogging pants and everything I had on the night you raped me. And you know there isn’t any statute of limitations in Kentucky. I’m getting ready to look at your hind-end in court.

.

It’s a shame that the Letcher County Central High School track team has to travel far away for their entire season to compete in their sport.

.

I want to wish my wonderful husband and grandfather, Johnny Coomer, a happy birthday on March 20.

.

I would like to wish my brother-in-law a happy birthday on March 27. His name is Roy Trout.

.

Do you even go to church anywhere? Bet you don’t. If you do, you have a say so in how your tithes and offerings are used. I don’t know where you are getting your gossip, but you should read Matthew 27:18-20 and Mark 7:20-23. May God bless you. Have a good day.

.

To the boy who lives in Whitco: You owe somebody $1,600. If you don’t pay him, he is going to have to turn it over to somebody else. So look out. It’s coming.

.

To the big guy running the store: You do a lot of blabbing and a lot of gossiping in your store about people. You need to worry about yourself. You go out and buy stuff for that store. If you don’t watch, the same thing is going to happen to you later on down the line.

.

To the guy at Scuttlehole whose wife got caught selling pills at the foot of the hill: Keep running your mouth and doing a lot of gossiping at your house. If it doesn’t stop it will be put to a stop. Please write me back.

.

The Republican budget in Washington includes the same old stuff. Cut Medicare.

Cut Social Security. Save the tax cuts for the rich and give money to the oil companies and the big companies and take it from the poor people who have to work. God bless you. Bye.

.

As a citizen of Neon, I feel that the mayor and the city council need to stop diverting attention from the city water woes and the deterioration of the city by worrying about the condition of the Neon Post Office. I say no more.

.

I would just like to say that I enjoy listening to Andy and Kathy on WMMT. They are great people. If the world had more of them, it would be a great place to live.

.

I don’t normally watch the Whitesburg City Council meetings because I don’t live in that area. I watched the meeting on television last week and I do appreciate their compassion for others. I feltthey all showed godly traits and that is what we need in this day and time.

.

First of all I want to thank The Mountain Eagle for putting my comment in there about Mr. Eddie Joe Estep and the things that came up about the coal mining jobs fixing to come open. And, yes, you are right, all these places should have been more like The Mountain Eagle and found out their facts before they printed it. Thank you.

.

I get tired of idiots who don’t know what they are talking about calling or writing to places like Speak Your Piece and criticizing Suboxone. It would be hard to imagine how many lives and how many jail sentences Suboxone has saved while it helps get people off narcotics. And no, you cannot get high by taking Suboxone strips the right way, which is what 99.99 percent of the people do. I would hate to imagine what eastern Kentucky and Letcher County would be like now if people didn’t have the opportunity to use Suboxone to end their drug addictions.

.

To a certain woman: You divorced me because you didn’t love me. I said stuff because it made me mad because you didn’t love me. I will always love you until the day I die. You are the only woman who I ever met that I ever loved. You know who I’m talking about. We got married in Kentucky. We came down here from Richmond, Virginia. I will always love you no matter who you marry. I don’t think you ever did love me. You were the perfect person and I just didn’t think I could make it when you divorced me. I still will probably never get over you. I could never date another woman because I am in love with you too much. I just wanted to tell you. Bye.

.

People talk about big government being bad, but they don’t realize that big corporations can be bad, too. Adolf Hitler’s Germany’s economy was run by big corporations who believed in slave labor for the workers. Slave labor is okay if you are the one making money off of it. It’s not a good thing for the slaves. Now, we have slaves in the United States who make money for big corporations while they have to draw food stamps to live.

.

Why is it that every time someone comments on the recreational center the editor of Speak Your Piece has something to say?

(Maybe because the editor is so sick of the subject he’ll say anything just to try to make it stop. After all, the editor was here for the many news stories written about the rec center during the time of its planning by the Letcher Fiscal Court and recalls that not a single citizen appeared at a single court meeting to object to the facility at that time.)

.

Does the devil own or have your souls? The devil is no one’s friend. Addicts sell their soul to the devil for money and pills. What price or value are you going to pay? There is Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Read Revelations 22:13-12, Revelations 20:12, II Chronicles 7:14, Revelations 12:8, John 3:16, John 14:13 and John 11:25.

.

To Wayne Fleming: I am a 72-year-old woman and if I were a man I would kick your behind. These stupid hicks writing in about how wonderful you are is a bunch of bull. They don’t know you like I know you. I have never met Judge Jim Ward, but God help him for even having to be in the same room with you. If you run for county judge I will spend every dollar I have to campaign against you. If you were county judge the only people you would worry about are right up there at Jenkins. You talk about the recreation center continuously, and I was right by you when you made the statement that you thought a senior citizens center should stay open no matter if there was only one person going there. And you know for a fact they are paying $700 or $800 rent to keep one center open for two or three people to come in two or three days a week. I live in Neon. Please think about who this is.

.

To Mr. Relon Hampton: Thank you for letting God’s light shine through your family. Hope God heals and helps all of you. A friend.

.

This is a message from an inmate in the DOC of Kentucky currently locked up at Northpoint Training Center. Some of you will know who this is and some of you I hope will read this and think twice before taking drugs or stealing something to ob- tain drugs. It’s been three years this time. Because of my stupid actions I’ve once again lost everything and have been locked up for a total of eight calendars away from my kids and my family. Worse than losing my freedom, homes and jobs, is losing the love from my father and other family members. That has by far made this trip the hardest. I’ve been through a lot this time and witnessed a lot of evil, but there’s no hurt like the feeling of being so alone from your family. So, any of you people that think you have to steal to get drugs, think about this life locked up and not ever hearing how your loved ones are or where they are or anything. There’s always other ways to get help for your addictions. I came to prison, then decided to stay clean or try and make something of myself by getting my GED or other certificates to make my father proud. Really, all he’s ever wanted was for me to be a man and work like him. To my dad: I’m very sorry for all the disappointments. And to my kids: I apologize to you as well. I love all of you with my whole heart, and I miss you terribly. I’ll be back out there in less than a year and I’ve made a lot of promises I plan to keep.

.

I would like to comment to the person who wrote in and said, ‘Verlin Short and that bunch think they are something with those snakes. They are nothing but a bunch of idiots. Also, that Caudill boy thinks he is something riding around on a four-wheeler. I have ridden a four-wheeler before, too. I have also ridden on an airplane.’ Well, I wonder if the person who made the comment has ever handled snakes. I guess he doesn’t have the power of God to handle snakes, now does he?

.

I would like to make a comment about something that was called into Speak Your Piece last week about Suboxone. Someone said the cure is worse than the disease. I think everyone should try out Suboxone to help their drug addictions. Suboxone has really made a change in a whole lot of people’s lives. They do go to classes. They do get help. Within a year’s time they are off the medicine and off the drugs. How would the caller know that Suboxone is worse than the disease? How would he or she know that without trying it?

.

I would like to know who the rats are on Village Drive. Everyone would like to know so that we don’t mess with them since doctors can’t write pain medicines for elderly people anymore. People have to get the pain pills from somewhere, but we don’t want to get them from anybody who are rats. If you know of anyone people let us know in next week’s Speak Your Piece.

.

To these churches sending food and money across seas: One way to fix this is to not attend these churches. When they are done spending money that faithful Christians gave, what is the preacher going to do? He is going to pray to God that he had helped Letcher County.

.

Well, folks, it’s time to get on the draw here in Letcher County. Then what is the tax revenue going to do when there are no working people to tax?

.

To a certain person: You say you want me to keep my nose out of private business. All the thousands of times I have been in that church I have yet to see a sign that says private. The church is for the public and you better get used to that.

.

If you have trouble doing a job, maybe you should step down and let someone who can do it properly take over.

.

To a certain person: Happy birthday on April 2. I have not forgotten your birthday.
