I have enjoyed reading in The Mountain Eagle the story ‘Murder of Fleming dentist remains a mystery today.’ He was half-dressed on the floor. What does that tell you? He was messing with somebody’s wife or somebody’s daughter and they blew him away. Does that solve the mystery? No. But it’s obvious what he was doing. More power to the man who did it.

It looks like the fix is already in for who will get the job as new superintendent of Letcher County Schools. Even before any interviews have taken place, two board members have already pledged their support for one applicant and are pleading with the other three board members to vote their way, too, in hopes of getting at least one of them to go along. Shame on everyone involved in this sort of thing. It is little wonder why Letcher County has one of the very worst school systems in the nation and will continue to be at the bottom for years to come. What is best for students has never and will never be what’s important here. Sadly, the majority of the parents are too dumb to care. About the only time you can ever get a parent worked up over education in this county is when their old neighborhood school is about to close or if they don’t think their son or daughter is getting enough playing time in whatever sport they’re participating.

.

To a certain woman: You are my adorable, honorable and loveable little angel. I love you.

.

I would like to wish happy birthday to two of the best brothers in the world. Love, Snake.

.

I more or less have an opinion I would like to have printed in the paper. Why are all these people wearing scrubs even though they work in restaurants or at a tanning parlor? I thought scrubs were for people who work in the medical profession. The people who wear them to work in restaurants and tanning parlors look ridiculous and need to stop. Scrubs do not belong in those businesses.

.

It’s nights like tonight that I wish I had my buddy to talk to. I miss you, but we will meet again someday.

.

If there are any liberals out there with the guts to do it and you would like a good fistfight, I love beating the crap out of liberals — Obama supporters. If you would, just leave a message and we’ll try to meet up somewhere. This is real, a true story. I am serious. Just leave a message.

.

Since the mayor of Neon says the post office is so nasty and dirty, I just wonder if she’s ever come down by where the old A&P was and looked at the clothes, trays, trucks and garbage piled up. Wonder why she won’t do something about that? She must love that place for a neighbor.

.

Hear ye hear ye. Are you bored? Poker and wild women are waiting for you at a poker house at Indian Creek.

.

To all the coal miners in Letcher County who got laid off: Obama is president and he likes unions really good. That means you boys who are all scabs in Letcher County aren’t going to be working here. When you decide to go union and sign that UMWA card you may get to work here in the coal mines again.

.

To a lady in Potters Fork: Every time I go up to visit my sister I just have to laugh. For 30 years you were too cheap to build a porch, but now you sit on the one you conned your mom and dad out of with your nose up in the air. You write on Facebook about how much you miss them when we really know all you miss is their Social Security checks.

.

This is to all of the Christians out there who say they are Christians but yet they go around smoking pot and drinking beer: You are not going to get into heaven that way. You need to get yourself right with the Lord and serve Him totally. That is all I have to say.

.

The wild turkeys, the crows, the owls, the chickadees and the Midnight Phantom rule.

.

Martha C., did you have a happy double birthday on Easter? Please let me know.

.

In the King James version of the Bible, Jesus said in Matthew 7:3-5, ‘And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beame out of thine owne eye: and then shalt thou see clearely to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.’ Would this not cover taking care of the needy in this area before taking care of the needy in other countries?

.

Oh, my, my. He’s 59. Over the hill and past the line. His youth has come and gone. Now it’s time to sit and moan. Happy birthday, George Carlos Boggs, on April 11. We love you.

.

It’s not my dirty laundry. It’s yours. And why shouldn’t everybody know what is going on? Yes, church people as you say it, do need to do what is right. We are all God’s children, church people or not. True Christians strive to do God’s work daily and we don’t hide our work. That is one reason these problems have been publicized. Preachers should be teaching the whole Bible, chapter by chapter and verse by verse. Your opinion doesn’t matter. Word from word from the Bible is what we need and want to hear. Matthew 5:16 says in the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

.

You are my loving little angel and I love you.

.

’I think Wayne Fleming would be a good county judge.’ I don’t know who made that comment in last week’s Speak Your Piece, but it sounds like they are the wolf that is dressed in sheep’s clothing. It sounds like it is somebody inside.

.

A certain preacher and his sister-in-law are still at it. I don’t understand the people who go, sit and listen to him preach knowing that they are having an affair right under his nose. That is a reproach on the church and the people who go there.

When I began teaching in the Letcher County School System, the central office consisted of five members, a superintendent, a secretary, a finance office, a truant officer and a textbook purchaser/distributor. We had many good, hardworking, dedicated teachers who educated students into scholars destined to be top executives in their chosen professions. Most students went out to be highly successful in their fields. Where are they now? The central office is bloated to the point of bursting at the seams. Over the pass dozen years we have been losing students at a rapid rate, probably around 2,000 during this time. Has the central office staff been reduced accordingly? The local school board could compare the annual financial report (AFR) with the AFR when the current school superintendent took office. The rise in the cost of staffing the central office will probably be shocking. Please, Mr. Board Chairman, compare some AFRs.

.

To all you University of Kentucky basketball fans who have been supporting the University of Louisville: Please continue to support your beloved Cardinals next year while our Cats are once again on the road to becoming one of the greatest young teams college basketball has ever seen. And no doubt the UofL fans will be like you and also come out in droves to support Kentucky if the Wildcats make the Final Four in 2014. Right?

.

I’m watching the Jenkins City Council meeting on Channel 98 and saw the silliest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. I saw a bid for construction of a community center at the swimming pool awarded to the owner of one company for $79,000 when the other guy bid $60,000. Why? You all really need to check that and watch that. Mayor Kincer is absolutely destroying our city. Thank you.

.

Could someone tell me why all the trees are dying up and down the river bank? Is the river polluted so badly that trees can’t grow on the banks anymore? What’s going on? Thank you.

.

I was just calling to thank the people of Jenkins for voting for our new mayor. In his campaign he accused our ex-mayor of getting free water, then he hires him to be city manager. Don’t we have a good mayor? I think Terry Braddock could beat him now. Let’s consider this in the next election.

.

I just don’t understand why the law hasn’t come to bust the place where there are cards and wild women. It must be because he knows somebody. Just come on down, boys, and have your fun with these wild women.

.

There was once an infamous man who said the way to take over a nation of people was to disarm them. What was his name? Adolf Hitler. Think about it.

(Actually, here is what the Nazi dictator said: ‘The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so.’)

.

To a certain woman: Does it bother you that everybody knows what you did when you were pregnant with your oldest child? I guess the man you’re with now doesn’t know about it.

.

To a certain church group from a church near Whitesburg: Who do you all think you are? You called the law on people Easter Sunday for having a cockfight. Let me tell you something: A game rooster is no animal; it’s a fowl. The Lord created them to fight. Cockfighting is considered legal by most in Kentucky. Do you think you’re going to pack you Bibles with you in heaven? We have our beliefs and you have your beliefs. Keep your noses out of other people’s business. Thank you.

.

I would like to wish a happy birthday to someone very special in my heart. His birthday is on the 15th. I just want you to know you will always be special to me. I hope you have a good birthday.

.

Did I hear School Board Chairman Kiser say he was going to ask the Kentucky School Boards Association to help us in our search for a new superintendent? Doesn’t he know we don’t do things that way? If he wants to save money and things are tight, why doesn’t he just save the $8,000 or so it would cost for this exercise in futility? At least three board members probably already know who the new superintendent is going to be, and that’s all it takes. People of Letcher County don’t care about the education of children. If they did, things would have been changed a long time ago.

.

Unethical, immoral, sacrilegious? What would you call a law enforcement officer who was at church with and ear bud in listening to the ballgame during church services? At least irritating to those who were hearing the score all around him. Or he could just lie about it, which to me would at least be somewhat more moral.

.

I’m responding to the column by Ike Adams. It is very well thought out and very precise and to the point. I too am disabled and have experienced the same things you do, Mr. Adams. This was a very will written article, sir. My name is Wiley. Thank you, Ike Adams, and thank you Speak Your Piece and all the people on The Mountain Eagle staff.

.

My family makes me sick. They turned a blind eye to everything another family member did and upheld those actions in every way. This family member chose drugs over their own children yet the family thought this person was the greatest in the world. Where were you while the shooting up of drugs was continuing? Where were you when the repeated drug arrests were taking place? How many times did you try to get help for this person? Let me tell you: None. Some of you were too worried about keeping your noses in the air and causing drama for others.

.

I haven’t quite decided whether the new Letcher County School Board chairman is addled, stupid, or both. His comments regarding the basketball trip to the Bahamas are some of the most troubling and asinine I have ever heard slip past someone’s lips. It seems as though the Bahamas, the former British dependency and current Commonwealth country, which by the way uses the U.S. dollar as its currency, is far too exotic for the likes of students in county schools. Miami, the teeming metropolis that serves as the gateway for South American narcotics entering the country, he argues, would be an acceptable substitute because if something were to go wrong, ‘we could get there.’ By this reckoning, why don’t we just keep our students within the confines of the county’s borders, better yet, within the confines of their own home. Why should they even bother to go to school? The world is a far too frightening place and if ever they should encounter adversity, well, perhaps they should just pack it in. Granted, the job of school board chairman is at best a fool’s errand. And clearly we have elevated the perfect fool. Sorry kids.

.

If our president was like JFK was he would have missiles ready to go over to North Korea. I don’t know if he’s got a backbone or not. I know if JFK were alive that little Korean president would straighten up and tell us what he was doing or be blown off the map. The president we have now is a joke.
