I’m calling to see when the Whitesburg city cops have been funded to drive a city cop car to pick up children. I know very well. I saw it with my own eyes. If this stuff continues to go on, it will be reported to a higher authority.

Must be nice to live beside the game warden and kill five and six bucks every year.

.

Don’t you ever say one bad word against the Seventh Sons. Don’t ever do that. If you do, that’s not right. I love the Seventh Sons and I’ve loved them all my life. Don’t you ever say one bad word against them.

The secretive meeting — legal yet unethical — to raise the school tax for a floundering Jenkins system was an abuse of the board’s power in an ethical sense. The town of Jenkins is mostly elderly people on fixed incomes with very few working class people, most of whom are barely getting by. The board and top staff have no problem buying themselves laptops, iPhones and iPads and taking unnecessary, ridiculously lavish trips under the guise of professional education — the next one is to San Francisco — while children have to share books in the classroom with none to take home. Now they’re getting ready to name the best friend of one of the board members to an unfilled term. Technically, it’s the state that will name the member, but I guarantee you this person will be added. It’s time for Jenkins to go into the county system as it should have done in the beginning. This tiny retirement community can no longer afford this school system. However, as an alternative, are there ways the Jenkins board can cut back to save enough money to fund the system that is one of the weakest in the state without raising taxes again? Even Henry E. Wright, a former superintendent, wouldn’t allow those very expensive trips at the expense of taxpayers. This bunch considers it absolutely necessary and even pays each member a stipend ($75) every time they meet, even if only for 10 minutes. If they really cared about the people, they would long ago have made significant internal changes as well as including the community in addressing this alarming situation. Funny how closing McRoberts and moving the central offices to the high school building has had little effect in overall cost, yet the perks continue. The school board is reckless and short sighted like our U.S. government in that its members can justify any spending that affords said members these perks. It’s time to clean house starting with next year’s elections. Both Jenkins and Letcher County increased their state test scores by almost 30 percent. Do you really believe these numbers? Or, like myself, do you see it as simply manipulating numbers one way or another to achieve wanted goals? No school anywhere can improve the quality of education by this huge leap in a year’s time, especially when close to the bottom of state statistics with no real change in professional education programs. Most everyone knows how far education has fallen behind, particularly in Letcher County. Yet, they expect us to accept this and move right along and pay, pay, pay. Like our government, education isn’t going to change until we demand the change. We’re in a serious Catch 22 in this ‘me, me, me’ drug infested, increasingly immoral, religiously apathetical, abuse the system and self-serving country we live in today. With the decline of adequate education comes the decline of our society, as we so clearly see these days. If people don’t get serious and work collectively for change in several areas, our society will crumble even further. Can you imagine? Do you care enough to act? It can be done. But the status quo isn’t the answer.

A public defender is withholding evidence in a case and doesn’t want to give up the video. I have to take a plea deal. It’s not right. I think this is misconduct.

.

You know why they shut down the government? Because people like some here in Letcher County just can’t handle having a black man in the White House.

.

I found a candy recipe that calls for chocolate bark. I have looked high and low through the mountains and everywhere and I can’t find chocolate bark.

.

To a certain person: We didn’t realize you were in such financial trouble you would have to go to the length you are to have loggers come in. Maybe if you had just asked, the good people of Cowan would have helped you out of your financial trouble.

.

The Democrats and Republicans are passing the blame of the government shut-down back and forth on everybody and hollering about the federal people going to be out of jobs and having to spend their savings. Both sides are making a big fuss out of it. Boy, you sure didn’t hear them making a fuss like that when they shut coal mining down. They didn’t give a big rat’s tail.

.

Attention, Letcher County school board. There are so many parents who are so happy and so pleased that you are making it no smoking on all school grounds to the public. We are delighted that you care about our children enough to protect them. This is a great accomplishment. We are so thankful to everyone involved who has helped make it no smoking completely on all school grounds, including all football games and activities. This is so much healthier and nicer for everyone.

If people think Obamacare was a big deal, they should live in Jenkins. People in Jenkins should check their power bills. We thought the power company was giving us something. Look on your power bill and see who is paying it back. Where did all of that money go that the city council got for the franchise fee? We are paying it back every month. Also, our water bills went up two percent. This is called Jenkinsitis.

.

Everything I tell my wife not to do, she goes and does it straight against me. I think I’ll tell her not to go play that big lottery and she’ll go straight and do it and win.

.

There is a guy who drives a truck from Red Star to Whitesburg about every day with no tags and no insurance. The truck isn’t even in his name. He is selling logs and putting them in someone else’s name so he doesn’t have to pay child support. I don’t think it is right. The law needs to get this fellow.

.

I would like to wish my grandson Dylan a very happy birthday. I have not forgotten you nor will I ever. You are the love of Mamaw’s life. Remember our song ‘You Are My Sunshine.’ I think about you every day and I miss you so bad. Lord willing we will see each other again some day. I love you with all my heart and soul. That will never change. I hope you have the best day and know that I am thinking of you and I love you to the moon and back. Love, Mamaw Frieda.

.

Cowan schoolteachers are selling candy right before lunch, which ruins the children’s appetite. Something needs to be done.

.

To the older woman who has a younger man: Are you happy that you took him away from his wife and two sons? Be on the lookout. I’ll be after him next.

.

We’re now getting cut big taxes in the city limits. Now I guess we should have the right to vote in the city limits too. Think about that.

.

I wonder if the owners of a certain store know that the woman their son introduced them to as his girlfriend is married to my cousin and lives in Hazard.

.

I was just wondering why our federal government — our congressmen, our representatives, our president and all of his staff — have to act like a bunch of babies who need their diapers changed every time you turn around. All they want to do is bicker and fight and argue. They are supposed to be for the people, not for themselves. I am appalled and ashamed with the way they are acting like a bunch of babies who throw a temper tantrum in a department store with their mommy. It’s a shame they are acting like this, especially our president. He is the worst of all.

.

As a Jenkins taxpayer I resent paying for an absentee city employee. There is light at the end of the tunnel however. Next year we will elect a new mayor and clean house.

.

There goes Jenkins having another burnout event. I think they are having about thirty-five a month. I can’t understand why a guy would spend thousands of dollars on a vehicle and then get up there and burn the rubber off of it. And then everyone stands around smelling the smoke. What do they get out of that?

.

Do we pay Jenkins policemen to congregate or to protect and serve? Someone answer this question.

.

Everyone knows how a certain mother likes younger men, but you wouldn’t think she would be treating her daughter the way she is and then going to church and acting like a saint.

.

Wishing a belated happy birthday to my beautiful, intelligent granddaughter, Shanna Banks, on September 28. Love from Mamaw.

.

I want to wish my granddaughter Cheyanne Roberts a belated happy birthday. She turned 13 on October 5. We love you. Mamaw and Papaw.

.

We want to wish our daughter Renee Coomer of Harrisons Branch a happy birthday on October 9. We love you, girl.

.

I want to wish my brother Ray from Hazard a happy birthday from his sister Jackie.

.

It is another Monday I will not be write you for a while. I just can never figure out what is going on in your minds down there. I mean, you do not want anything to do with me. I never did date anyone there and I never did talk to anyone there. I can remember spending the whole Christmas there by myself you all not really doing anything with me. Then you get mad for me coming and leaving. I guess you think I am not good enough for this place. Hey I am from here. This is where I am from, so you people need to chill.
