I am looking for opinions on satellite TV systems. Is DISH Network or DirecTV the best way to go?

.

I asked my pastor if I would go to hell if I didn’t quit smoking. He said no, but you’ll smell like you did.

.

I saw you last week and I told you that you still look good. So I am telling you again. You still look good, and I miss you.

.

Coach Holcomb, your corners are weak.

.

It looks like Mitch Mc- Connell and Rand Paul are out to take Social Security and disability away from people. Well, it is my way of life. I’m not able to work, but some people work and turn around and draw a check. It’s a wonder they never get caught. They are either too sneaky or too smart. Some of them will learn when they lose it all because they won’t have checks to turn to when Republicans do away with it. We need to write some letters to Washington.

.

I was just sitting here remembering that we had to cancel Halloween last year because of snow.

.

I loved the comment in last week’s Speak Your Piece about the cat getting run over and the person taking the $750 and giving it to St. Jude’s. I am an animal lover and I own lots of animals, but I think sometimes we forget that they are not human and we have children who are suffering. Children should always come first.

.

I think everybody needs to see what is happening in the Letcher County School System. Go to auditor.ky.gov and look at the report on the past expenses from the past superintendent’s administration. It’s over $6,720 worth. Some meals cost more than $78 for one meal, and there are kids in this county starving and they raised taxes. There is something not right with that. We need to do something about it.

.

For the people who commented about Harrison Branch and the chickens needing to be cleaned up. You need to clean your act up and get a job. Don’t worry about what everyone else does. Mind your own business or move out.

.

This is for a dog owner in Daniels Branch: Keep your dog on a leash or I will whip your ass. Your lady needs to keep you on a leash, too. So keep your dog tied up cause I’m your neighbor. I look at you every day and you look at me. So get it straight.

.

I can understand people being against big government, but when they define big government as a health department flu vaccine and cut the money for that we are all hurting. We all depend on the flu vaccine. We all depend on the health department at times. Now people may not get their flu vaccines.

.

A conservative is just a Republican without a heart.

.

To the trash who live in Hemphill: You are out bumming money again. Shame on you. Your child is the one who is going to pay for your mistakes. You need to grow up.

.

Happy birthday to my nephew Hilton Dixon. Sissy loves you and misses you. Happy birthday.

.

You may also e-mail your stories to kentuckysbigfoot@yahoo.com if you wish to remain anonymous. Who knows, it may get enough interest to get a little tourism coming in.

.

To the guy in the yellow truck: I think it’s a shame how you cheat on your girlfriend. You are a disgrace the way you act to her face and the way you do behind her back.

.

To the person posting last week about deer hunting around feeders: It was legal to hunt deer around feeders and attractants, but not turkey.

.

We people in the City of Jenkins are taxed again by the power company. The city already raised the taxes. The water bill went up. The school tax went up and now the power bill has gone up, too.

.

Let’s all remember the despicable situation we are in and next election put in a mayor who is competent in office and will hire a city attorney who is knowledgeable about the law and cares about someone besides himself.

.

To a certain person: Your best friend will not twist your arm and make you do what you did when you were pregnant with your oldest child.

.

Well, Commonwealth’s Attorney Edison Banks, I see there is another unsolved murder in this county now. The people of Letcher County need to get together and vote you out of office. You had all of those people up there handling guns and you want to charge one person with the crime? Charge them all. Is the courthouse a one-way street down there?

( Three persons were charged in connection with the shooting in Jenkins. Two of them pleaded guilty.)

.

If you want to kill a deer, come to Woodrock. They’ve got five feeders over there. There are deer everywhere.

.

Would someone in Washington that has a little sense take everyone in the White House from the top to the bottom to Disneyland and let the states take care of their own affairs? This is a country that is being run down to nothing because of a group of leaders that are operating on their own greed. They have destroyed the coal industry by their lack of ignorance on carbon emissions and thinking we are destroying the mountains. Great things have happened due to mountaintop removal, and when we get a smart group running the government and tree huggers move to another country, coal will stand high again. Working people need to stand together before it’s too late. I am very proud to say I’m a friend of coal. Thank you.

Dear Speak Your Piece: I am hearing so many people talk about our kids’ teachers that are going to one of the local places downtown and how they are behaving. I was shocked when I went there to eat the other night at how many I saw, too. I do agree that this is terrible that they do this in front of the parents of kids they teach. And they should keep in mind that kids can go there too, and that it is not a place just for adults. If they are going to do this they need to do it at home or in another town. But I also want to say that this is not all teachers, and I don’t want the teachers of this county to get that reputation because not all of them behave that way. I do agree that teachers should be role models and if they are going to behave that way that they should do it in another town where parents and kids aren’t going to watch. I have kids in middle school and high school, and we are trying to teach them how wrong drinking is, and it is hard when they hear about or witness their teachers doing it. Students look up to their teachers and think what they do is cool, and want to be just like them. Teachers need to remember this. I know teachers have a life outside of school, but they must realize that when they behave in such a manner that people in this town are going to talk. I just wish when they talk they don’t give all teachers a bad reputation. I’ve heard that some say they are going to start videoing and taking pictures and posting on YouTube and various media sites so that our Board of Education and parents can see exactly how teachers are behaving. I can’t wait for this to happen so that instead of all teachers getting this name, it will be just the ones acting inappropriately. I am not against drinking. My husband will have a drink on special occasions, but he never drinks in public or when our kids are around, and it is in moderation. There is a time and place. Please remember, not all teachers are doing this. I don’t want my children to ever think behaving that way is the cool thing to do. I would also like to thank all of the teachers who care what your students think about you and have more respect than to go to a local place and behave like that. Sincerely, A very concerned parent.

(We’ve also encountered teachers eating in some of the local restaurants that serve alcohol, and not once have we seen any of them behaving in a manner that was disrespectful or harmful to any student who may also be there.)
