My grandmother used to tell me that someone told her that in order to get Obamacare you had to have a microchip implanted in your body. That isn’t superstition; that’s ignorance. I explained to her that people are preying on the ignorance of eastern Kentuckians.

If it’s illegal to hunt deer over a feeder, then why are there feeders in Woodrock and Carbon Glow? Those feeders are full of feed, and deer hunters are hunting around them.

.

A new restaurant is advertising they have the best barbecue in Whitesburg. I agree they have great pulled pork and other items, but I thought their ribs were so tough I couldn’t eat them.

.

Go, Veolia, go. I’d like to see you take the whole town. Just go for it.

.

Why is it that when you call the abuse center to report child molesters living in houses that they aren’t supposed to be living in they pass you on to the state police, and then when you call the state police everything is just ho-hum. Now I don’t give a darn to get involved when it comes to little children, but people I have done all I can. If anyone out there has any suggestions please put in it Speak Your Piece. These little children need protection. If we don’t protect them we are no better than the child molester.

.

Why did God have to place so many ignorant people in Letcher County, Kentucky? I’ve never seen so many stupid, ill informed people in my life. I had hoped the college coming to our county would change things, but I’m afraid it’s only made things worse. Now we have stupid people who think they’re smart just because they attended a couple of college classes.

.

How about that chop shop at Colson a few years ago? Why have there never been any arrests, convictions or anything about that? Whatever happened with that? Is that something else in this county that is just going to go unnoticed?

.

It has been a long time since I have been in Letcher County. There is a lot going on. I know the last time I was down there it was dead. First, people just would not have it until I moved down there, so I moved there. Then when I get down there that was the last time I heard from them. I even spent whole holiday by myself. I didn’t even have so much as a date. Once I moved back to where I am from I really never heard or saw a soul. So stop telling people to move down there. You did not want a lot to do with me and you still don’t, so leave me alone.

.

To the receptionist on high school hill: I wish they would get rid of you. You are the unfriendliest person I have ever met. You are no better than anyone else, so stop acting like you are when visitors come into the office.

.

I just want to ask LCCHS football coach Mike Holcomb if the quarterback he is playing in every game is the only quarterback he has. Just wondering.

.

Are the school teachers who have been raising such a ruckus over Whitesburg’s occupation tax the ones who talked Timothy Baker into running for mayor again? Is this the best they can do?

.

I can’t wait until John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats play their first regular season basketball game. This is the year UK gets back to where it should be, high above Louisville and Duke and all the other UK wannabes out there.

.

It looks like finally the Republicans have been able to do something about these deadbeats who live off the food stamps my hard earned tax dollars pay for. I’m happy to see these cuts in stamps are taking effect in November. I just wish they could cut them all out.

.

Could you just give me a clue on the comment about looking good? Thanks.

.

I feel sorry for all of our coal miners who are having to move to places like Alabama or Western Kentucky or southern Illinois to find work. It must be tough to have to move to places like that when you don’t know anybody there.

.

American people, call 1-800-Washington don’t care.com.

If the new barbecue restaurant in Whitesburg ever gets the beer license I saw it was applying for through this newspaper a few weeks ago, I hope they advertise it and let us know. I don’t plan to go back in there unless I can buy a beer with my food. After all, this is 2013 and Whitesburg is wet. Even though I hate having to drive all the way to Pikeville to get my barbecue fix, I will continue to until the local place allows us to have a beer with our meal. I do not like to eat barbecue without having a beer to go with it.

.

So now some in Letcher County see a black bear and believe it is Bigfoot. No wonder people think we’re dumb hillbillies. We are.

.

Just last week I saw on the news where gas was going down nationwide. I wonder how gas has gone up, I believe, 14 cents in Letcher County. It’s not going along with the national trend. I don’t understand it except for what I have previously said.

(Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for Tampa, Fla.-based GasBuddy.com, retail gasoline prices in Kentucky have fallen 8.1 cents per gallon in the last week. The price for a gallon of regular in Whitesburg late Tuesday afternoon was $3.29, a penny below the national average of $3.30.)

.

I just want you two at the American Legion to know who I am talking to —you two fine bartenders. Well, I replaced everything that you all took of mine, plus I am living a good life and I am getting along well. From what I hear you all aren’t doing too well. I hear that one of you is in the hospital and some of you have been visited by some unexpected guests. God has put back everything that you all took away from me. You all have a real good day.

.

Would the city police please ticket the guy who parks his navy blue extended cab pickup with the bull bars in the no parking fire lane at Food City? He’s endangering the public.

.

What has happened to make sports officiating so poor of late at the college and professional levels? And what can be done to fix it? The latest terrible calls I know of helped keep Kentucky from beating Mississippi State on national television and gave a World Series win to the St. Louis Cardinals that wasn’t deserved. Replays clearly show that Kentucky wasn’t offside against the Bulldogs. And while the interference call against the third baseman for Boston that awarded the game to St. Louis might have been proper, that type of call is never made in that type of situation, especially when it is in the judgment of the umpire. The integrity of sports at all levels is suffering because of poor officiating.

.

Now the City of Whitesburg has lost $145,000 in road funds because of incompetence? Do we have to wait until the next election or can we throw them out early?

.

Letcher County Central Cougars got the big head.

.

If you’re out there cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals to beat the Boston Red Sox in the World Series there is no way you are a true Cincinnati Reds fan.

.

A certain man has lived in Letcher County most of his natural life except for a few months in Knott County. He married a girl in Knott County after he couldn’t find one in Letcher County because of his obnoxious attitude. He is the only person that matters, according to him. Recently his wife left him for another man. She finally wised up and realized she had no life with this person. Supposedly he is grieving himself to death. He might want to take a look at himself and see that he is not perfect. He is so bullheaded he will never admit that he could have been the problem.

Public roads and highways are more important to people’s safety and security and health than anything else the government can provide for its citizens. Common horse sense should tell you that without having to be spelled out in a long, drawn out explanation. Simply put, you would not have the modern day civilization and its lifestyle you have today without public roads and the organizations and functions of government without the network of public roads such as those in the United States. But some people do not appreciate that. They do not want to go along with the law and order that is necessary in order to maintain a safe and reliable public road system. Law and order and public discipline are very much a part of highway maintenance, as is the mechanics of structural upkeep and manual labor. Some people want to use the public road system as their own, private playground and in so doing, put other people’s lives at risk by the illegal operation of unlawful (restricted) vehicles and plain out ‘reckless’ driving. ATVs should not be used on the highways where ‘licensed’ and ‘insured’ vehicles are supposed to operate according to the law. Nor should drunk and ‘doped-up’ drivers be allowed to drive any type or class of motor vehicle on the public roads at all. When politics allows violations to persist on and on, and they are never interrupted by legal authorities, then somewhere, someone must be getting paid off or making money on it some other way.
