I’d like to thank President Obama for letting me see a depression like 1929. I need to thank the Democrat Party for that, too. Thanks.

.

I think it is a shame that at Letcher County Central High School my son can’t go to a restroom in between classes without going into a cigarette-smoke filled bathroom. I thought teachers were supposed to be watching all of these kids, yet he comes home smelling like cigarette smoke. It’s a doggone shame he can’t use the bathroom without getting that smoke smell all over him. I think the teachers need to get off their behinds and start doing a better job up there. The superintendent needs to do something about it, too.

.

I thought the computers were supposed to be put into the labs at Letcher County Central High School for the children to be doing schoolwork, not to be on Facebook. I just found out today that my daughter has a Facebook account she started up there to hide it from us. She’s been talking to guys and everything on it. They need to block the students from getting on Facebook. But then that would block the teachers, too, and they have to get on to update their status in the middle of the day when they should be teaching our kids. It’s a shame the students can sit up there all day and chat and bring home D’s and F’s on their report cards.

.

I have a daughter who goes to Jenkins High School. She wants to play basketball, but says that when the coach isn’t around all they do is run. They run and never do anything else, and that’s why she won’t play. I think they need to reevaluate what they’re doing. Jenkins could be good. They’ve got the talent. It’s a shame the girls don’t want to play just because an assistant makes them run all the time.

.

I don’t know why they refer to the Affordable Care Act as Obamacare. It should be called Obamadon’tcare. He’s got free government insurance for him and his family and he doesn’t have to worry about his premium and losing coverage.

.

Someone went to jail on Friday night, but was let out soon after and there’s been all kinds of trouble already. This is to a certain man in Jenkins: What kind of judge would let you tell that she was a seizure in order to get out of jail? Who is behind this?

.

I wish the game wardens would do their jobs. The people who live beside one of the wardens have hunting licenses for the disabled even though they are able to work six days a week. He won’t say a word to them, but if he catches anybody else out he checks them out. That’s not right.

.

If anyone has a 1983 annual for Whitesburg High School, would you please respond in next week’s Speak Your Piece? Thank you.

.

Everyone on Craft’s Colly would like to thank Representative Leslie Combs for the guardrails. We tried to get the county and the state to get this dangerous hill fixed. Even the bus drivers over the years have reported it, but the state road department ignored us all. And thanks to Oliver for reminding her about the guardrails everything he saw her. Thanks again, Leslie.

.

A month ago we saw a person’s picture taken while he was being arrested for public intoxication. This person still says it wasn’t him. Why does he lie so much? Enjoy your little drinking habits while you can. It’s just a matter of time before you get caught and put in jail again.

.

Have you ever imagined just being in heaven and hearing God call your name? ‘Come on in, son, I’m so glad you came. Yes, that’s your mansion that you see standing. I built that with my own hands just for you, down on the corner of Glory Street and Hallelujah Square. And yes, that’s gold you’re walking on and jasper on the wall. But up here in heaven you don’t have to worry about walking down any old dark forbidden hall. Up here in heaven it’s always day and never night. Don’t you remember what Jesus said to you — ‘I’ll be your way, your truth, your life and your light?’ Can you imagine being in heaven and the pastor comes to your home and says, ‘The wife is cooking up a big dinner party and we’d sure be glad if you could come along. They tell me that Noah is coming by today to tell us about the ark and how God got him on his way. Daniel, Isaiah and Jeremiah will be there too.’ I said, ‘No Pastor, I can’t come today. You see, my wife has cooked up a big dinner party, too, and they tell me that Mark, Matthew, Luke and John are on their way. They also tell me that Peter is going to speak if he doesn’t cry. Well, I can’t wait to see them here in this sweet by and by. Now they tell me there is one man that’s coming by. His name is Jesus. I can’t even speak his name unless I cry.’ Heaven. Happy home above. Heaven is full of love. Heaven is the most real of the real.

.

It’s about time certain people start learning how to put a cable up. I just wonder if they know how to lie a little more about things. I tried and tried to get a diaper and a bottle put in my mouth. Now I need somebody to burp me. This playhouse down here is a big joke. If you don’t want to play with your toys, then stay at the house.

.

When you look in the want ads for a job there are no jobs being advertised in there because our judge, Jim Ward, does not bring any jobs or industry into our county. Our county has gone to the dogs.

.

I received my Mountain Eagle in the mail today and saw where it said on the front page ’17 people indicted’ and ’17 candidates have filed to run for county office.’ Are they the same people, or are we going to wait until the candidates are elected and then indict them?

.

How crooked can you be to have a job yet still get a hunting license for the disabled and then go around posting Kentucky River Coal Company’s land when Kentucky River will not lease you land on which to hunt? I wish we had game wardens that would start checking people and their papers. Thank you.

.

I’m a voter in Letcher County and I would like to encourage Frank Riley to run for Letcher County Attorney. He is a very smart and capable attorney and is capable of doing the job. If he would run, there would be two things I would ask of him. First, change the politics of the county attorney’s office. Nobody likes the kind of policy that’s in place now when nothing gets done for anybody. Second, we need a change of attitude in the county attorney’s office. We need someone who is very competent to run the county attorney’s office, because what we’ve got now is certainly not working for the people of Letcher County. Thank you.

.

To the Letcher County Board of Education and to the parents of the elementary school children who have been put into this situation concerning the school bus on Pert Creek: For more than 30 years there have been two buses, one for elementary and one for high school. Then after fall break, with no warning, the elementary children started having to change from their bus at Pine Mountain Grill and get on the high school bus. Several children have told their parents about the bad language they hear on this bus. Two children have been bullied by the high school kids. Elementary children should not be put on this bus. I’ve heard that one child had to be taken of the bus after being bullied. It is against the law for a child to be bullied. I hope this family takes this further. I am a concerned parent who will do everything I can to get our children put back on their own bus where this does not go on. Why change something that has worked for more than 30 years? Would you want your sixyear old to hear all this bad talk and repeat what they hear? Thank you very much.

.

The Letcher County man who recently lost his Knott County wife to another man in Knott County is having a hard time realizing that he has been turned down by his woman. I don’t believe he’ll ever be able to find anyone else, just because of the way he is. I guess she finally got tired of his hateful ways and his babyish attitude. He has a few friends he can cry to, but many others are enjoying his predicament. He is with his mommy now so he should be somewhat happy. He is such a slob and he deserves everything life is bringing to him.

.

If you don’t like what is happening in Washington, contact your state representative and tell them to send a delegate to the Mount Vernon Assembly that will happen on December 7. This is important to everyone in this country.

.

I’m calling about your very unprofessional article about David Wyatt. In addition to listing his indictment, the paper also went on to list a three-year-old crime that happened in the home of Mr. Wyatt but Mr. Wyatt had nothing to do with. Why did you deem it necessary to put that in the paper with the indictment? That is very unprofessional and very unethical. Of course, I expect that from The Mountain Eagle. There will be some action taken. I know Mr. Wyatt is very perturbed about this. Can’t you folks find anything to write about that pertains to now instead of three years ago?

.

Let’s see if we’ve got this right. You come out for cheerleading and practice two times, cheer at two ballgames, get recognized for senior night and get all the good stuff the other seniors got, get your picture made and quit. Really?

.

It’s kind of funny that some people cry about being broke and not having a job, then go out and buy not one but two new cars. It’s kind of funny, isn’t it?

.

Which state has the most politicians in prison? Illinois. Which state has the highest crime rate in the country? Illinois. What state has a governor and a congressman in prison right now and another governor and United States senator just released from prison? Illinois. What state is this president from? You fill in the blank.

.

What about these good Christian men and women around here putting their naked bodies on the Internet. Lord have mercy. You talk about a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Shame, shame, shame. You all are going straight to hell.

.

One thing I learned from drinking and singing is that if you’re going to go Christmas caroling you should preferably go with a group of people. It also helps to go in December and not October.

.

I’m tired of cars pulling out in front of me at the caution light in Jenkins heading south on U.S. 23. I head up that mountain going 55 or 60 and two cars pull out going 30 and block both lanes, or two cars traveling on 23 and a car pulls out, causing me to hit my brakes. I have full coverage and accident forgiveness. Next time I’m not hitting my brakes going uphill.

.

Jenkins Mayor G. C. Kincer is a brilliant political strategist. His recent realignment of the office personnel is a stroke of pure genius. A year from now, however, it won’t matter one diddly squat. We will still have a new mayor because people don’t forget being snubbed.

.

Last week I was telling about you how that same thing almost happened to me on the bypass and it is really, really true. It was probably somewhere around 18 years ago. It came a big storm all at once and grew dark. It was about 5 p.m. on a summer day, when it still should have been daylight. I was almost to the school cut-off there. I was walking and jogging. That vehicle was behind me for about eight to 10 minutes until I realized it was there and what the driver was doing. When I started running he started coasting behind me on the side of the road and I knew right then I was in trouble. There was hardly any traffic anywhere. I couldn’t even breath I was so afraid. I made it home safely, but I did not come out of the house for four or five days. I was petrified. Today there is Mace, the gun law and cell phones. People say ‘I have a right to run.’ Yes, you have a right, but when you are gone, you are gone. You can’t ever let your guard down. Beware, be careful and be safe.

.

It’s a shame that a certain person down here can’t take care of his own animals and has to have somebody else take care of them. They are nothing but troublemakers who tell lies. They can stay home. We don’t need them around here.

.

Well, the Republicans in Congress couldn’t stop healthcare reform. Does nobody realize that insurance companies would rather make $1 million than provide health insurance to people?

.

It looks like the broom closet bandit has struck again at ARH. Only this time he got caught.

.

I’m glad to see the ragging on Isom’s so-called ‘three time marriage loser’ has stopped. To be fair you couldn’t expect him to forego a better life with someone younger, prettier, sober, and caring about the lives of kids.

.

Politicians from this area, or representing this region (Leslie Combs, Hal Rogers, Mitch McConnell, Johnny Ray Turner, Jack Conway, Rocky Adkins, and others) are doing our people a great disservice by giving them false hopes that the coal industry will return soon. The CEO’s of Arch Coal, Alpha Natural Resources and James River have all said that the coal remaining here is in thin seams, is overworked, and too inaccessible to be costeff ective — that it can’t be extracted for anything close to the market price. They have also mentioned the competition from natural gas and Wyoming coal, and that these in combination mean the industry is no longer viable here. They are moving their equipment out, and anyone on the roads can see it being removed on wide-load trucks. These politicians know all this as well as anyone, but consider it in their best political interests to prey on the desperate hopes of the victims instead of getting some alternative industry in here. Shame on them. Don’t listen to them.

.

To the teacher at Jenkins caught with the married man: You think you have been humiliated? You haven’t seen humiliation yet. And by the way, snuggles, hugs and smiles.

.

Everyone is just wondering who is dating the little dwarf. Is it mother or the daughter?

Hope you print my response to these few comments that were printed two or three weeks ago. (1) To the person who stated ‘leave The Seventh Sons alone’: I don’t know who the president is now, but a former president is a snitch. How do I know? Because I have a handwritten statement that he signed his name and phone number to. He was willing to go in front of a grand jury and testify about something that wasn’t any of his business. You had better watch what you do if that person is still a member of the club. He will rat you out if he gets squeezed. The Seventh Sons lost the best president they ever had in Van Grigsby. (2) To the person who wrote in about trying to report children in danger, but no one will listen or do anything: The judges and commonwealth’s attorney in Letcher County are allowing these sex abusers to get slapped on the hands with very little punishment at all because the offenders are gay or have been molested when they were young and think it is all right. I wish I had the resources to get all the records from Letcher County about sex cases to just see how many get probation, time served, or even get their cases dismissed. The judges worry about DUI or someone selling a little pot or pills, but dismiss incest, sodomy or rape and fondling cases. Someone needs to contact the federal government about the court system here letting these scumbags away with hurting little kids. This is making me sick writing about it. Citizens of Letcher County, do something about it and vote them out of there. (3) I would like to ask the people who read Speak Your Piece how a prosecuting attorney can have someone indicted before a grand jury, with witnesses, for shooting a man in the back and the case be dismissed without any probation or anything at all done about it. Why? Well, I tell you why, because this man’s brother is a flunky to County Judge Jim Ward and he has pull with Circuit Judge Sam Wright and Commonwealth’s Attorney Edison Banks. Well, after the state picks up the charges it’s hard to get a dismissal. What’s a prosecutor’s job description require him to do? Someone please look into this. Thank you.

.

To the person out telling that companions are stopping by to see me: If this is true stop by and tell me about it. But you’re lying so admit it. With you’re being a snake I think you wont do either. Prove me wrong, stand up and be a person or slither back into the hole from which you came.

.

So Mayor Craft votes for a 1.5% occupational tax in Whitesburg because he says the city is broke, then at the last council meeting he votes to double the city employees’ vacation time which costs an additional $75,000. How is this fair? The city is now more than a million dollars in debt and has a pending lawsuit against it. Why should we the struggling people of Whitesburg pay for the mayor’s mistakes, then pay an additional $75,000 for vacations? Isn’t this kind of irresponsible action the reason Whitesburg is in such trouble?

(The City of Whitesburg, as do a majority of the cities in Kentucky, operates under the mayor-council form of government. Members of the city council perform legislative duties such as enacting ordinances, levying taxes, adopting budgets, and setting personnel policies including those that deal with employee vacation time. Mayors do have the power to veto council actions, but vote only when it comes to breaking ties in council meetings.)

.

I saw a white van coming in and out of Meadow Fork at Millstone. It drove by my house. I see a lot of traffic coming in and out of Millstone these days. The traffic seems to be coming up to the head of Millstone. I thought I saw a white van come up there.

Who votes for ‘best places to work’ awards? It’s obviously not the employees of a certain hospital. That is unless you take pleasure in being treated like a number, being treated unjustly, taken advantage of, and most importantly, never getting your ‘mandatory’ breaks and lunches. If any of those things sound appealing, then this is the place for you. After all, don’t happy employees make happy patients? Isn’t that what it’s all about? To give your patients the best care possible you can’t rely solely on your top-of-the-line equipment. You must have knowledgeable, happy, respected and valuable employees to operate that equipment and to implement their skills.
