To the Letcher County Water and Sewer District: If I don’t see a bill, you will not receive payment. Do I make myself clear? This is the Midnight Phantom speaking.

Something that has me puzzled: the coal industry keeps spewing its favorite Big Lie that President Obama is waging a war on coal. The industry doesn’t seem to realize that argument also means that McConnell, Paul, Barr, and other politicians who pretend to be defending the industry are complete utter failures. I mean, look at McConnell; he repeatedly claimed that his number one job was to make sure President Obama was a one term President. Not to get our kids out of President George W. Bush’s Iraq genocide, not to help fellow Kentuckians who don’t have health insurance to get some, but to put the party of war back into power the White House. And yet again he was a complete failure. So who does the coal industry want in office? The same losers — McConnell, Paul, Barr, et al. Not someone who might really help like Grimes or Blevins.

.

A certain pastor should think twice about dropping his kids off at ballgames, especially when the son is outside in the dark with a girl.

.

This is to Magistrate Bobby Howard: Please make yourself available to help people whose heat pumps are tearing up and need service during this dangerously cold weather

.

Magistrate Terry Adams, why are you making a big deal about stuff that is on public record? You are getting too big for your britches. By the way, belittle is one word, not two. This advice comes to you courtesy of the Midnight Phantom.

.

To a certain person: I’ve written you a letter. Please read it front and back. There’s nothing bad in it from me, but I need for you to read the whole letter. If that is the reason you haven’t been talking to me, then that is okay. I understand. Okay. Bye-bye.

.

To Letcher County Judge/Executive Jim Ward: How come the people at the mouth of Pert Creek have city water and the top of Pert Creek has city water but lines weren’t installed down the creek or up the creek? A few of us up here would like to have some city water, but we can’t get it because they won’t bring it by.

.

To the person who broke into my house three times this winter: I have no valuables. I’m just a poor writer. I may live in posterity, but I live in poverty. There is nothing here of value. The only thing of value is my books. I wish you would stop breaking in; it’s making my wife nervous. I have never made any money from writing. I just get published for academic journals for the self-esteem it gives me and for the fact that it makes my little grandson happy to read about himself.

.

Anything you can do I can do back.

I noticed the snide and whiny comment toward alcohol sales in last week’s paper and I just want to address a few of the ridiculous statements that were made, particularly that the sale of alcohol has brought ‘undesirables’ into Letcher County. Is the person who made this comment acquainted with the region at all? Letcher County is surrounded by counties that sell alcohol. Perry County is wet throughout the county, as is Wise County, Virginia. Pike County sells alcohol in Pikeville as does Cumberland in Harlan County. That is not to mention the numerous bootleggers in Knott and Letcher Counties and the service clubs that sell alcohol. As for undesirables coming into Letcher County for alcohol, that reveals a very narrow view. There have always been plenty of undesirables in Letcher County and we have exported our share to Wise County, Perry County and other places. If so-called undesirables are coming into Letcher County for anything, it is to buy the pain pills and methamphetamine our own undesirables have shown a good deal of ingenuity in obtaining and manufacturing. I don’t know what problem these people have with the legal sale of alcohol, but it’s silly to say that the recent legal sales have spurred drinking or violence, since we’ve always had plenty of both. It could be religion or just general intolerance. Maybe it’s from people who just don’t want to see anything change, but the benefits to Whitesburg have been pretty obvious in the amount of tax the city has collected. By the way, every time I purchase a six-pack of beer or any other alcoholic beverage in Whitesburg, I am asked for an ID, even though I am plenty old enough to ‘pass for 21.’ Bootleggers and dope dealers don’t ask for identifi cation.

.

To my sister who lives beside me in Isom: It has come to my attention that you have been talking about me and saying I’m a bully and have bullied you your entire life. Really? So I guess I’m the one who refused to sign the deed and had to get the court involved? And I guess I’m the one who goes out threatening and yelling all the time and had to be served with a restraining order. By the way, there is still a bench warrant out on you that I can have that served at any time. But I’m the bully? Yeah. Right. You are just mad that we were offered the chance to buy the house and you weren’t. But what do you expect when you throw your mother in a mental hospital — her to sign it over to you? Do you honestly think you are fooling anyone with all your cries that you miss her? So why don’t you build your fence a little higher and put out a few more cameras. We can still see you, idiot. We live above you.

After reading the January 22 edition of your paper, I think it is just great that Deputy Damron has learned a new word — or borrowed one. I think he shows great potential and is quite astute in his use of ‘manifestly’ under the influence in the erroneously named meth ‘lab’ fiasco. Maybe next week I can get time to explain to you that a two-liter plastic bottle, sinks, bathtubs, and large glass bowls aren’t labs, or laboratories, and idiots aren’t chemist, or they would know certain kinds of laying mash could be used to get the oil that you call precursors and I call laying mash oil to make poison you call meth. Laboratory will be your new word to learn. Please study what a lab really is and the difference between Pyrex, ether, and piperidine, which are only a few of the many hundreds of drug chemicals used in labs and by real chemists. Also, study the 2010 Speak Your Piece comment that predicted what was coming in the wake of the pill smorgasbord UNITE put out. Actually the idiots who want a prison built here would make Letcher County a great place for street gangs to move in to supply the prison. Those visiting the drug crime inmates, friends and families will provide a market for all drugs in Letcher. Might we even get a big enough drug industry for a cartel supply?

.

This is in response to the person who called Speak Your Piece about someone being in prison and looking out: All I can say is you better be worried about yourself. You defraud insurance companies. Isn’t that a crime? Don’t worry about everyone else. Clean all the bones out of your closet. Honey, I know who you are.

.

Lies, pills and prostitution go hand in hand. Check the jailhouse out and you’ll figure that one out.

.

To the caller who blamed the terrible murder that occurred New Year’s Day on the fact that Whitesburg now allows the sale of alcohol: Shame on you for trying to politicize such a terrible event that resulted in the loss of a fine young man who was so full of promise. The decision by the victims of this brutal crime to celebrate the New Year in the normally peaceful town of Whitesburg is not the reason one of them was murdered so senselessly. There are two reasons that murder occurred, and both have to do with the fact that two creeps were too cowardly to leave their home without carrying a concealed deadly weapon. Here’s hoping these two wimps rot in hell for their terrible decisions that have damaged so many.

.

In response to ‘inside looking out’: I’ve got a few things to say about this. First to the person who put this in Speak Your Piece: I know a little bit about you myself. There isn’t anyone who is starting a protest. It seems to me that you need to go back and get your GED. I’ve worked my behind off and I know that maybe prison isn’t what I expected because sometimes there are people there who don’t need to be there. And you should have learned your lesson years ago from what you have done to keep you from going or some of your own family.

.

It’s a funny thing to me how some people can be on disability, yet still get out and run a marathon. Sounds like stealing from the government to me.

.

To a certain person: Well, I’ve got news for you. You never would have married into it if I’d had a choice.

.

I saw in the newspaper where this man got his furnace fixed, so now I want to tell about my furnace. It broke down in the middle of the night. I called a guy my mom told me about. He came out at 2 a.m., and it took him two hours to fix my furnace, for which he charged me only $50. If anybody needs him call 633- 5788. And if you do call him, tell him that we say thanks. Please print this. This guy really is good.

Somebody needs to get some new signs to the UK cheerleaders ASAP. Instead of showing the letters and shouting the cheer ‘C-A-TS — Cats, Cats, Cats,’ it must be changed to ‘C-A-S-H — Cash, Cash, Cash.’

.

To a certain person: What a wonderful mother and grandmother you are. So happy to see that you are so ‘blessed’ on your Facebook pictures. I guess you are all one big happy family now that you have accomplished what you have tried to do for 36 years — getting your daughter out of your life. I knew this day was coming. Ever since that first grandbaby was born you have tried to push me out so you could be number one in her life. Well now you are. But you are the one who will have to face God on Judgment Day, not me. It looks as if He is already starting to make you pay for what you have done. You have lost your house that you have lived in for 37 years. Was it worth choosing a lying druggie? But I’m sure you don’t care. You never have. You have always put me last. I just pray that I live long enough to see you brought to your knees. That is all I pray for — to let the world know what kind of Christian you really are.

.

After having now suffered through the recent Country Music Awards and this past Sunday night’s Grammy Awards show, all I can say is that I hope this marks the low point for modern music. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m sick of having Beyonce and Jay Z forced on me at every awards show, and I want to throw up when I hear the ‘today’s urban country’ sounds of Little Big Town and Florida Georgia Line. And don’t even get me started on Taylor Swift. Thank God she was beaten out for a Grammy by a true young talent in Kacey Musgraves.

.

So Letcher County H2O and Sewer District you got my message? I contacted consumer affairs. What you are doing is contrary to law. If I don’t get a bill, you don’t get a payment. This is the Midnight Phantom speaking. Do you understand?

.

I was here but now I’m gone. Left my name to carry on. Those who knew me, knew me well. Those who didn’t can go to hell. This is the Midnight Phantom speaking.

.

I would like to wish Paula a happy birthday on January 28. May God bless you with many, many more to come. This is from a great friend back in the day. God bless you.

.

I would like to wish a very special young lady on Robinson’s Branch, Kristy Michelle Adams, a happy blessed birthday. May God bless you with many more to come. I love and miss you so much. Hugs and kisses. Love and prayers from someone very special.

I am disgusted with the poor sound quality of the Grammy Awards. If there were an award for the worst sound production of a television show, CBS would win hands down. Throughout the entire show I was constantly turning the volume on my TV up and down to try to compensate for the ineptitude of their sound people. Whoever they had on their soundboard must have been drunk or spaced out. I’ve been to dozens of musical presentations and I know sound quality when I hear it. Our own Clyde Stanley, formerly of Hometown Music, could have done a better job with the production. Throughout the show you could not hear the vocalist because the accompaniment was blasting them out, and when the entertainers were accepting the awards you could not hear them over the chatter of the audience. We have better sound people right here in Letcher County than that bunch of overpaid nincompoops at CBS. If I am wrong, I will have to go buy a new television.

( Just a thought, but maybe the sound crew was forced to overcompensate to one extreme or the other because of the differences in the computer-controlled and computer-generated sounds of some of the newer ‘talents’ versus the drum-guitar-bass sounds of some of the older acts such as the two former Beatles. We’re still wondering why the Grammy producers felt it necessary to let the likes of Robin Thicke rain on Chicago’s first-ever performance on the show. And did Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson really need help from Blake Shelton?)

.

Thank goodness there is something positive about January 2014. This is the beginning of the last year of G.C. Kincer’s term as Mayor of Jenkins. I hate to see the poor guy waste his time, money and energy running for re-election knowing he doesn’t have the chance of a snowball in hell of being reelected. Why doesn’t he hire some independent agency to poll the voters in Jenkins so he can see his approval rating is very low? Matter of fact, I have not heard one person say they would vote for him again. It is time for the other candidates to step forward and throw their hat in the ring. G.C. has made too many blunders to be re-elected. Surely there is someone in Jenkins who will rise to the occasion and provide the leadership we need at this very critical time in our city’s history.

Is the Michael Blair the Whitesburg Police Department just hired related to Sean Blair that works for Judge/Executive Jim Ward?

Tomorrow is another day in the life of Letcher County and Speak Your Piece. God help us all. Plead for our children against the cases of incest, rape, murder, and drugs that are Letcher County’s dens of iniquity. Childhood is supposed to be a happy time, but life gave these victims of abuse a death sentence — no pride, no feeling of worthiness, thinking they are bad, that they are the guilty one. Please don’t prolong this. Where is your backbone, teacher, Social Service, judicial, jurors? Do everything within your power to stop this shameful behavior. Children depend on their teachers to be there for them. Stand up and be counted. Teacher, pass the information and help the child to escape this sordid life. Please.
