I was reading the annual financial statement of excess fees for the Letcher County Clerk. When it comes down to utilities it says $1,430.39 was paid. My understanding of utilities is electricity, water, cable, phones, sewer, and I just don’t understand this. For one month, my electric bill is an average of $300. This doesn’t include water, cable, sewer and telephone. Is there some explanation of why this is so low?

.

I heard there was a woman from the Neon area who caught her daughterin law going out on her son and was tickled pink because for the first time her husband’s name wasn’t on the list. No pregnant neighbors. No doctor bills.

.

I’m a concerned Letcher County citizen who has watched surrounding counties open up emergency shelters and hand out aid to the less fortunate in these frigid temperatures. I’m not sure if I should be outraged by the lack of concern local county offi cials have shown or congratulate them for being so sure that poverty and need does not exist outside the Whitesburg city limits. You be the judge.

.

This is my opinion, but concerning the LKLP propane vouchers, I think from now on we need to use our vouchers at Frazier’s Farmer Supply. We’ve been out of propane for five days with no heat and it doesn’t seem like anyone else is trying to get any propane for us. I’d just like to let you all know that.

.

Well, folks, it’s now offi cial. The Kentucky Public Service Commission members have sold their souls to American Electric Power and its subsidiary Kentucky Power. If anybody still had any doubts, that Public Service Commission letter in last Wednesday’s Mountain Eagle clenched it. If Kentucky Power didn’t write that, I’ll bet they dictated it over the phone. The letter could hardly have stuck closer to the AEP/Kentucky Power line if it had been copied right out of their annual report. None of this should be a surprise, of course. Every government agency quickly gets captured by the industry they are supposed to regulate and starts boosting its bottom line at the expense of the citizens they are supposed to be protecting. The Public Service Commission is just one in a long line. And to hell with us who are having to pay these outrageous power bills so AEP and Kentucky Power can line their pockets.

.

As soon as everyone in West Virginia can drink their water again, can we get back to McConnell, Rogers, Paul, Barr, et all, further explaining to us why the Environmental Protection Agency is so bad?

.

The fiscal court’s action on the proposed facility at Isom is irresponsible and probably illegal. The court is ignoring the requirement for economic and environmental studies, and rushing into government spending without even taking the time to make sure the company is legitimate. I don’t think a teaspoon of earth will ever be turned over in this scheme, but it could cause fraudulent spending if allowed to continue. Best case, such a facility might use 5 or 6 employees, not the number of employees that grew from a small number at the start of the meeting to, I believe, 300 before the meeting ended.

.

I’m speaking for some people at the mouth of Blair Branch. I wish CSX had that train up there moved. It is aggravating. It keeps you up at night. What is the purpose of it? We need to get a petition together and have it moved somewhere else.

.

Don’t forget to feed the birds. They have a hard time finding food in the winter.

.

Does anybody out there know what EPA stands for and does anybody out there know where their offices are? And does anybody out there know what their phone number is? I would love to call them up and speak my piece directly to them for what they have done to the coal miners, their families, the coal companies and on and on and on. Have a nice day.

.

I bought a Mountain Eagle January 29 and there is no TV guide in it. I was wondering why it wasn’t in there. That is the only reason I buy the paper. Give me a comment back.

.

The Letcher Fiscal Court looks like it might be entering into a deal at Isom that could be a scam, and four members fell for it. Experts warn that the strongest sign that something is a scam is ‘I’ve got a great deal for you, but you have to decide by Friday.’ This fits that description to a ‘ T.’ Two of the members had the sense to ask for some time to learn about the company and the product, but the county judge wouldn’t hear of it. He demanded approval without any time to look at what was being offered. As I understand it, the company is proposing to use pulpwood to make those artificial fireplace logs. Duraflame and others already produce those. Why would these guys think they can crack that already-established market? We need a horn at the Fiscal Court that blares ‘scam alert’ when this kind of thing comes up. Let’s take the time to look at what we’re committing to before we leap.

.

It’s such a shame that no more motions will be entertained.

.

Hey! You guys talking about me again?

.

I’m so glad to see Randall Adams is running for sheriff. I have nothing against Danny Webb at all, but I think that Randall Adams is probably the best candidate that you can vote for.

.

This is to the person who asked about Michael Blair with the Whitesburg Police Department: No, he is not related to Sean Blair in any way.

.

Well, Sen. Mitch Mc- Connell has shown himself again to be no friend of the average Kentuckian. Now he is whining about how Obama won’t even work with him. We had Mitch McConnell before Obama was even in office gathering his buddies together and urging them to pretend to want to work with the President and then block him and sabotage him at every possible turn. He is an embarrassment and a danger.

.

I hate InterMountain Cable.

.

This is the old cat killer. I just wanted to let you know that I am still out here. I finally got to kill that old big yellow cat. They say they have nine lives and I believe it, but I got him on the seventh one. He is dead and gone, but anyway, if your cat gets gone you can pretty much be right if you say that the old cat killer killed it. I love killing cats.

.

To a certain person: I am not the only one who knows about the terrible sin you have committed. Others will soon know about it and will be talking, too. Bye.

.

If you are going through Whitesburg at night you need to be real careful. They’ve got some new police on the beat since that boy got killed up there and they will stop you no matter what. I got stopped for doing nothing. The cop said thanks and go on. They are stopping anyone who is driving through town.

.

In case you are interested, this is what I did on Groundhog Day: 1. Watched “ The Golden Girls.” 2. Changed a 40 watt light bulb. 3. Caught a big mouth bass. This is the M.P. speaking. Enjoy.

.

I’d like to make a comment about magistrates Terry Adams and Wayne Fleming. They are supposed to be for the county, and now we have an opportunity to have jobs at Isom and they vote against it. With all of these people losing their jobs, houses and everything else they’ve got and they don’t want to vote for jobs in here, it sounds like we need to replace them both this next election.

.

I live in the Isom community. My family works in trucking and the coal business. Thanks a lot, Terry Adams and Wayne Fleming, for not wanting to vote for jobs for us to go back to work. It looks like District Two needs to vote for Brad Collie and District Five needs to vote for Neil Yonts.

.

Thank you, Jim Ward, from a woman whose husband is laid off for trying to get jobs back in Letcher County. From the bottom of my heart I thank you.

.

Did the cocaine get covered up by a bunch of judges?

.

What is taking so long to indict those heathens who stabbed to death the Hogg boy? There were about three or four witnesses to the murder.

.

To a certain person: You need to get in touch with me and come to see me. It would be a shame for you to have your good name and reputation ruined over lies someone else has spoken, especially when that other person has a few things I’m sure she does not want people to know about all her loved ones. She also, in time, will have to make amends with me or she will never be forgiven. I really believe she did not realize the damage and hardship that she has caused, especially to her own. I would hate to think because of lies that I would ruin my own life, is something she never thought about. Her sorrow would be sad. She will lose much.

.

This is for the month of February. I am speaking out against the lying politicians that keep lying about global warming. There is no global warming now. Hopefully it will get cold enough in Washington, D.C., so these lying politicians would be glad to sit by a coal stove so they won’t freeze to death. The American people know that these liars that promote the lie of global warming are lying to the American people, so why are they elected to public office? They should do the American people a favor and resign for deceiving the American people to believe in the lie of global warming. With the recent cold weather and with snow in almost every state, global warming is a lie now. The truth is found in Genesis 8:22, while the Earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. I believe what God’s word says, not some lying politician. But one day God is going to give a global warming. That is found in 2 Peter 3:10, which says that but the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with a fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. So we need to stop believing lies and start believing the truth. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. God’s word is true. Only Jesus can save us from eternal hell.

The Bible says in the book of Proverbs 22: 6, ‘Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’ Evidently, neither the school systems nor the parents are doing a ‘decent quality’ job of ‘child raising’ — that is within the last 30 or 40 years. If children had been taught in the traditional American Christian method the past few years, we would not have ‘ boy- brain’ men ( adult 18- to 40-year-old men) out on public highways playing with four- wheelers, doing stupid antics and breaking the traffic laws in so doing, and getting by with it. We do not have any (the government-citizens) control over the conduct of misfits of society anymore, because of today’s school system failures. Therefore, ‘bullying’ becomes a lifelong obsession for some.
