I really think The Mountain Eagle should designate one area of the newspaper for obituaries. Scrambling them throughout the newspaper is like trying to find a needle in a haystack when looking for a certain obituary. One page should be dedicated for those that have passed away instead of putting them in pages of other news headlines. If that would not be an option, how about putting the obituaries with an index on the front or second page of the newspaper so everybody knows where to look for a certain obituary?

(Thank you for your suggestion, as we do appreciate comments like this one and we do take them seriously.)

I never thought I would see the day when my town of Jenkins had a beautiful new swimming pool and a community center building that will be anchored by a nice restaurant that will serve alcohol. Am I dreaming? Thank you for helping our town progress, Mayor G.C. Kincer. You will have my vote anytime you run for office.

.

This is to King in Rocky Hollow: You need to move over. I am the king of the New Bloods, a motorcycle group we started about a year ago. There are about 100 of us who ride together. You need to move over, because you are old and washed up. I’m the new king.

.

God works in strange and mysterious ways. I bet you that mountain coming off on your darn building cost you a lot more than that $500 it cost me to fix my car that I bought from you. I’d had it for only a month when it tore up and you wouldn’t fix it. I’m going to tell everybody in this town how you treated me. I bought three vehicles from you and you do me this way? I don’t think so. You all have a good day at the car lot.

.

To a certain woman: Your love and my love is forever. I love you very much and you are my angel.

.

To a certain person: I am going to fly away on my angel wings and I love you.

Would someone please help? I am a nice looking, hardworking guy who likes to ride his Harley. I can’t seem to find a woman in Letcher County. Every one of them is so fat. It seems like eight of every 10 women in Letcher County are fat. What is up with that? Someone help.

(Maybe you should rev that Harley up and start cruising by the county recreation center in Whitesburg or by some of the walking tracks at the parks located throughout the county. However, be sure to leave your helmet off if you want the women to see the ‘nice looking’ you.)

.

I hope one of your friends at work or one of your family in Kentucky sees this and tells you about this message. I’m really hoping you see it yourself and you’ll understand why. You need to call me or come see me when you do see this message. The time has come to take care of the situation. It has gone too far and somebody is going to get hurt really bad if it continues. Again, call me. I hope we get together soon before it is too late and lives will never be the same again.

.

I’m calling about the people who burned up Drad Fleming in that truck over at Eolia. They burned him alive. I think they ought to hang them right in front of the courthouse and let the public come and watch them get hanged. Put them away just like they put him away. That would be the best. If you give them life in the pen, they can get out in 20 years.

.

I really like that lady on the radio on WMMT on Tuesdays at 8 a.m. I just don’t think she needs a sidekick.

.

I just wanted to remind all the martial artists in Letcher and surrounding counties about our Slam event on March 22. Come out and compete against Kentucky’s best. I want to thank all of the participants we had at the Battle of the Bluegrass this past weekend. It was a wonderful tournament and we thank you for the support. Contact Master Frank Sexton of Four Season Martial Arts School in Whitesburg for more information.

.

Let’s hope our circuit judge shows the good judgment to reject any plea deal that could let Stephanie Fleming off with only serving 20 years in prison after she masterminded the murder of her husband, Drad. If this deal is allowed to go through it will be a miscarriage of justice. It’s gotten to the point in Letcher County where you’re more likely to serve prison time for selling a pill to keep your drug habit up than you are if you murder someone.

.

I hope that State Representatives Leslie Combs and John Short and State Senator Johnny Ray Turner will vote to protect the rights of landowners in Kentucky and defend the constitution of Kentucky when House Bill 31 and Senate Bill 14 come up for a vote in Frankfort. Both of these bills clarify that privately owned companies cannot use eminent domain to take the land of Kentuckians. Eminent domain powers are given only to the government and public utility companies for things like roads, water, electric, gas lines, etc., — anything that would serve fellow Kentuckians. It sounds like an easy vote doesn’t it? But there is a privately owned company from another state that is arguing that they have the right to condemn Kentuckians’ property, even when their product will not serve any Kentuckian. This is our state and I am not prepared to give it to any corporation that wants it. That’s why we have a constitution in Kentucky. It should be followed. Call 1-800-372-7181 and tell Combs, Short and Turner you want them to support defend the constitution and land owners rights by supporting HB 31 and SB 14. This will be voted on by the Kentucky House and Senate, so call any elected official you know. Your land could be next.

.

Vote for Mitch ‘ The Abominable ‘ No’ Man’ McConnell to help coal miners? How dumb do you think we are? He is the Senator who has allowed 7,000 miners to lose their jobs already. At least Grimes is honest.

.

I’m calling about the entrance to Premiere Subdivision on the hill before you pull in there. There has been an old bathtub lying there for the last seven or eight years. It looks like the City of Jenkins would have it picked up.

.

We, the people who live in Jenkins, are sure proud that we voted G.C. Kincer in as mayor. Now, look what we’ve got. We can buy liquor by the drink. Corruption is on its way.

(Corruption normally comes when liquor is sold illegally by bootleggers, not when it is sold legally by the drink at a restaurant whose owner’s record is impeccable when it comes to following Kentucky’s liquor laws.)

.

We are in need of a picture of the old Middle Cowan School. If anyone has a picture, please call me at 633-5019.

.

I would like to know how a young man accused of manslaughter and 11 other felonies is out running around in Whitesburg free as a bird.

.

This is ‘ Walking Tall’ John Hall replying to the person who said my name isn’t original and wanted to know why I am using ‘Walking Tall’ and how people will take me seriously. Just to let you know, a dear friend of my papaw’s who is also a friend of mine, Letcher County Sheriff Danny Webb, came up with the name. He did that when I was considering running for sheriff of Boone County. He was going to endorse me and told me to use that name. I decided not to run for Boone County sheriff and I moved back home. I am now home for good. This is my home. You can take me seriously.

.

Some of these plea deals that are being reached by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and approved by the circuit judge leave me scratching my head. Just recently, Edison Banks tried to give a man 10 years for stealing bronze markers out of cemeteries and selling them to junkyards, and now he has agreed to let one of the world’s worst black widows off with having her husband burned to death. While stealing a grave marker shouldn’t go unpunished, the culprit shouldn’t have to serve half the sentence being recommended for a cold-blooded woman who would kill her husband for his life insurance money. Is justice ever fair in Letcher County?

.

It is a wonderful time to be a woman in the U.S. Our next president will most likely be a woman. The next senator from Kentucky will most likely be a woman and the next mayor of Jenkins will most likely be a woman — me. Hardly a week goes by that someone doesn’t encourage me to run for mayor. I had considered running against former Mayor Pud Shubert, but I backed out. This time I will stay in the race and most likely I will win.

.

I am a firm believer in freedom of speech and I hope The Mountain Eagle feels the same way. I think they should take all of the stray cats and dogs and put them on a scaffold out in front of The Mountain Eagle office and hang them all in one day.

.

Hey, Copycat. If you want to walk in my footsteps you are going to have to keep distance between you and those devils. Did you see in The Mountain Eagle where that 22-pound cat tried to kill that little seven- month- old baby? I’ve got friends who are cat lovers, but if one of their cats had tried to kill their seven-month-old baby they would have sent that cat to ‘meow heaven’ in a hurry. This is the old cat killer signing off.

.

If you want to murder your husband and not have to face the death penalty, be sure to do it in Letcher County.

.

Hatler Kiser, a candidate for county judge, says it is the fault of Judge/Executive Jim Ward that the coal mines have been shut down in Letcher County. If that is the case, whose fault is it that the mines have been shut down in all of the other mountain counties, including the ones in Virginia and West Virginia? That goes to show you that Hatler Kiser has no idea what he is talking about. I am from a family that used to be in the coal mining business. I know it is not Jim Ward’s fault.

.

I predict that the queen bee will be mayor of Jenkins and the songbird will be mayor pro tem.

.

I’d like to ask my neighbors on Pert Creek to please be nice neighbors and stop burning stuff. Some people who live here have respiratory problems. Others are bedfast and can’t get away from that smoky smell. I would appreciate it if all my neighbors would put their garbage in bags and get it out for the garbage trucks or take it to Millstone themselves.

.

Anybody that doesn’t like cats doesn’t deserve to breathe the same air that I breathe.

.

Don’t ever estimate that people can’t buy water. You need to go back to the altar.

.

I don’t care what Barack Obama says, same sex marriage is an abomination to the Lord and makes Him sick. Please print this. Thank you, Stanley Pack.
