I’m responding to the comment about killing stray cats and dogs all in one day in Speak Your Piece. I’ll tell you what I think. I think you and all these lowdown, sorry pieces of garbage will go out and buy dogs and cats and let them breed. Then you get tired of them and put them in your car and throw them out in front of somebody’s house and you don’t care about them. You can call and they’ll come get them, but, no, it is easier for you lowdown pieces of trash to throw them out and not worry about them. I hope and pray that I catch one of you all one day. You will pay.

.

To all English teachers in the Letcher County school system: Which of these sentences are grammatically correct? 1. Give the package to whomever calls for it. 2. Give the package to whoever calls for it. 3. Whom do you trust? 4. Who do you trust? 5. The majority of the media is liberal rather than conservative. This is the Midnight Phantom speaking. I’ll be waiting for your answers. Good day.

.

I read in The Mountain Eagle about signs being put up on state property and the sheriff is supposed to uphold the law. He is in violation of putting his signs up right beside the highway even though in the newspaper it says that you are not supposed to do this. They should take down every one of the signs from anybody who has the signs next to the road. The poles are not state property. They do belong to Kentucky Power. I think the sheriff should abide by the rules.

(State highway workers can remove campaign signs only if they are on state rights-of-way. Signs beside the road are legal if they are on private property.)

.

To a certain person: Hi, doll baby. I haven’t heard from you in awhile. I sure hope you are doing better. I haven’t seen you in awhile and I miss you. Bye. Bye.

.

Why do people burn garbage? It doesn’t make the garbage bill higher or lower. What is the reason to burn garbage? Letcher County needs to be a burn free county year round but I just don’t see that happening.

.

Dear Speak Your Piece: I was just wondering if there are such laws against bullying. I’m asking this because there may be that kind of situation in the Letcher County school system. I think that maybe that kind of problem may have caused school shootings. The school systems need to address this and not anybody else until they determine it is a legal matter.

.

Someone made a comment in Speak Your Piece last week about Letcher County being dead and the county isn’t booming. They tried to blame it all on the county officials. It is not the fault of the county officials.

.

I just rediscovered a goldmine that I had forgotten existed. It is located just past Pine Mountain Junction on the left side of the road. The people of Letcher County should be so proud of that building. It is crammed full of the most beautiful arts and crafts at such unexpected low prices. It is a must see. I was astonished at so much beauty. The girls who work there are so nice. Don’t let this shop go under just because we forgot its existence. Letcher County needs to visit it real soon and see what I mean.

.

We would like to say happy birthday to two of the best brothers in the world. We love you. From your two sisters.

.

I saw on the news where Alpha Natural Resources and Nally and Hamilton both had been fined. Between the two of them it totaled just under $27 million. They were the last of the holdouts, so I’d say that pretty much wound that up. Congratulations to the president. I want to thank him for doing this. He did a real good job at it.

.

Believe you me, the old cat killer has no problem with telling you what his name is, but you put your name in there. These people keep dropping 10 to 12 cats on me a week right down the road because there isn’t anywhere else to leave them. Now, who is the worst — the man who sets them out or the man who kills them? Tell me where you live and I will catch those cats and I’ll bring them to your house and set them out. Then what are you going to do? This is the old cat killer. Love you a bunch. Bye.

.

If you want to think a scary thought, just think where this county will be if we don’t have Senator McConnell in Washington to fight to save what’s left of the coal industry.

.

I want to wish my son James Wilder a happy 19th birthday on April 5.

.

Happy birthday, Bubby. We love you. From Emma and Olivia.

.

The person complaining about the neighbors burning garbage is probably the one who likes to sit on the porch and gossip.

.

Did you ever read the book or see the movie ‘A River Runs Through It’? I believe some day someone will write a book about Isom titled ‘A Junkyard Runs Through It.’ Right on Main Street, better known as KY Highway 15, sometimes you have to wait for a loader or forklift to shove salvaged cars or trucks and other junk out of the road. The ditch line is filled with oil, diesel fuel, hydraulic oil, motor oil, brake fluids and who knows what else. On the other side of the street it runs in the ground and into the creek — all of this to accommodate one old man. Shame on you, Magistrate Terry Adams and Magistrate Wayne Fleming, for not wanting to provide jobs to 20 workers because it might cause a little dust elsewhere in the Isom area.

.

I had some weight loss surgery a couple of years ago when I was in my twenties. Now, I am only 32 years old and I have actually gained because of it. My bodily functions have shut down, and I just want to warn people. Everybody I have spoken to who has had weight loss surgery has had nothing but problems. Please try to lose weight on your own. The surgery is not worth it. I have babies and now I am being selfish. They are not going to get to see their mommy anymore. Please try to lose weight on your own; do not go through weight loss surgery.

.

Anyone who would vote to re-elect Mitch McConnell is lost in the wind. The coal business is gone. Think about it. Start over.

.

We, the people of the City of Jenkins, are glad to see that our mayor has become a resident of Jenkins now and has moved from Virginia. Now he can come over here and pay the same bills we do.

.

You people who don’t respect Mitch McConnell and the hard work he does for Kentucky, especially our part of the state, will regret it if he gets beat by that awful Democrat woman who is trying to take his seat. With her lack of seniority she would be driven out of Washington like the whimpering lass she is.

.

I think the whole political world is a larger version of grade school kids fighting on the playground or in high school when you get to vote for superlatives. Vote for me. I think we should all take a breath and vote for the individuals who are running for office to see what they are really made of instead of just looking at signs on the highway. This is just my opinion.

.

A good rule of life is to accept things and go on. This doesn’t apply to things that are bad. You mustn’t accept evil or corrupt government, whether it be local or national. Stand up — speak your piece.

.

We homeowners in the City of Jenkins welcome the mayor back to the state of Kentucky. Welcome home, Mayor.

.

This is Wilders Racing Team. We would like to wish James Wilder a happy 19th birthday.

.

We would like to wish our nephew James Wilder a happy 19th birthday. Love Aunt Cheryl, Uncle Brandon, Olivia and Emma.

.

We want to say happy birthday to Josh Mullins on April 3. We love you. From Aunt Melissa, Uncle Charlie and J.D.

.

We want to say happy 19th birthday to our grandson James Wilder. We love you. Mamaw and Papaw Blair.

.

Corner Cut Tires would like to wish our brother a happy 19th birthday on April 5. We love you, Bub.

.

I know one person who can’t get up and do anything for himself. He needs to be in an old folks home. He hollers for my brother all the time to help him do things. He can’t get out and do anything because he is trying to help him. He needs to get up and try to do things.

.

If you don’t want to read about my angel, just skip over it in Speak Your Piece.

.

To a certain person: I’ve searched for words to tell you how much you mean to me and to let you know how precious each day can me. I love you. You are my angel.

.

Spaces seem to have shrunk in a certain parking lot in Whitesburg. I can’t believe that people haven’t complained.

.

Every time I get out driving I meet dangerous drivers. Nobody will stay on their side of the road. That yellow line in the middle of the road is there for a reason. If you don’t stay on your side of the line you are going to get somebody killed. Are you just plain stupid or completely incapable of staying on your side of the road?

.

Hey, pretty boy on your Harley: I forgot to say one more thing last week in Speak Your Piece. We have beautiful women here in Letcher County, as pretty as anything they have in Hollywood. The thing about our hefty women is that they are nice, and that is more than I can say about you.

.

People of Letcher County, when you go to the polls on Election Day, take a real, long hard look at what we have had in the past. If we don’t change things, things will never change. It has been this way for the last 20 years. Jobs aren’t coming in. Families are going hungry. Take a real hard look at who we have in offi ce and ask yourself if it is going to remain the same or are we going to make a change. Do the right thing. God bless you.

.

This is the person you called a child molester. You don’t know a darn thing about me. Instead of worrying about me, you better be worried about what is going on in your own little household. I know what is going on there. So do something about that before you concern yourself with somebody else.

.

Happy 22nd birthday to a certain person on April 2.

.

To a certain little woman who now lives in Virginia: I guess you think you have done good. Well, everyone knows how you really are. You have been that way all of your life. I think it’s a shame that your ex-man put up with you and your trashy ways for years, and when he needed you the most, you ran away. He stood by you and waited on you when you were locked up. Now that he is in a jam, you caught the first train out. It won’t take long until your new man figures you out. You have been deceiving people all your life, and I’m sure he will figure it out soon. How can you look at yourself in the mirror, knowing how you have done? I wonder what your children will think about you when they get old enough to understand? It’s hard to make anything that nasty smell good. You make me sick every time I think of how you have been. Some day you will have to answer for your wicked ways. God help you.

.

Happy late birthday to Dean Wilson (March 20) who lives at the mouth of Cowan. Moving right along to the month of April: Kathy Trent our niece on April Fool’s Day; Dad’s birthday; also, Paul Murphy on Baresta Branch; Serena Day, Cowan, we know her as her married name, Smith; Lorraine Miles our first cousin, married name, Stewart ; Ross Maggard; Diann Pack’s oldest son. Hope you’re okay, Diann, haven’t heard or seen you for a long time. Come see us sometime. Thank you, Stanley Pack.

.

Amazing how the state’s Democrats want another 1-1/2 cents per gallon gas tax for repairs of our highways along with building some new ones and the Republicans are so greedy they expect to have all that for nothing. Or do the Republicans just not want new and improved roads? They can’t stand the idea of paying their fair share. If you wonder why so many of the bridges your kids are traveling over are deficient, call your Republican politician. There is no free lunch.

.

I agree with Senator Mc- Connell that the winning ways of Duke University basketball is to be admired. He could achieve the same level of success if he started representing his constituents rather than Big Money.

Abraham was the son of a merchant who was an international dealer in religious icons. One day his father came to the shop and found Abraham surrounded by broken glass with the shelves turned over and the shop in shambles. The father asked Abraham, ‘What happened?’ Abraham told him the gods had a fight and only one survived — the true God. So they took the show on the road of the silk route, set up a tent, served free food and lectured about the one true God. Only Abraham had the true God and you had to buy it from him.
