People, please take my word and get out of Letcher County while you can. Coal is not your friend. I sat there about two months ago and looked across the table at my two little children, sitting there wondering how we were going to eat the next day. I picked them up that night and I left there headed to Winchester. If you can make it as far as Winchester, you can give your family a good living, take care of them, send them to school and not have to worry about waking up without a job the next day. Coal is not your friend, people. Believe me. Get out of that place. Get out while you can.

.

I sure wish Dairy Queen, Wendy’s and all these restaurants in Whitesburg would get my order right. I never get a sandwich the way I ordered it.

.

If you don’t want people to know what is going on in your life, how much money you have, where you have been or where you are going to go on vacation, please don’t get on Facebook and advertise it. Because then everybody in Letcher County will know what is going on.

.

Randall Adams is running for sheriff. He has already broken the law by putting his campaign cards inside mailboxes without postage. Since he obviously doesn’t know the law, how could he be good as sheriff?

.

Democrats created Social Security. Democrats created Medicare. Democrats created black lung benefits. I think they should take those Democrat checks away from those who vote for Republicans.

.

You can’t drive out of the hollow without smelling cat dung. It’s right next to the road where they dump it. It looks like the sheriff ’s department would get onto them about that. It’s coming from this red building down here where there are a bunch of cats.

.

I have kept up with the Drad Fleming murder case and I think they ought to do something with all three of them. I think every bit of it was premeditated murder. That’s what it all points to. If different, I would like to know.

.

Is there an election this year?

.

To all Letcher County residents: Please, everybody, do not vote for any of the magistrates running for re- election or any of the others running for this office. Let’s stop voting for them and just do away with magistrate offices and stop wasting our county money.

(And then what, replace the magistrates with county commissioners? Kentucky’s constitution has dictated since 1891 that every county has as its form of government a county judge and between three and eight magistrates or a county judge and three county commissioners. Without magistrates or commissioners Letcher County could not have a fiscal court. And without a fiscal court the county could receive no state or federal funds with which to operate the county.)

.

This is to all the people sitting out there with nothing to do but run their mouths about Letcher County Judge/ Executive Jim Ward: You all need to mind your own business and leave Jim Ward alone. At least he is out working.

.

To all you thieving ginseng diggers: When you get in the woods and I catch your car sitting by the road, I’ll cut the tires off of it and knock the windshield out.

.

This is to Randall Adams who is running for sheriff: I don’t really mind you coming to my house and asking me to vote for you. But can you come in more of a decent fashion the next time? You showed up on a broken down motorcycle wearing an old work uniform that looked like it was made in the Sixties. Come a little more presentable next time and we may think about voting for you.

.

You think an honest day’s work and helping people will make you feel good about yourself? You are supposed to help people, but don’t do it to glorify yourself because you are so down on yourself.

.

It must be election time. I see Magistrate Codell Gibson is out making promises and kissing babies.

.

I always thought Randy Blair was a Republican, but here he is running as a Democrat. Wasn’t he a Republican magistrate in District Three? Why didn’t he run for re-election to that office?

.

I sure hope that Jenkins gets a new and better mayor next time. If we had a good mayor, he or she would work hard to try to get a hospital back in our town. That is more needed than anything, especially a raise.

.

I’ll never know why we need constables.

.

If that driveway at Indian Creek is blocked one more time, I am going to peel someone’s wig back.

.

We do have a good constable in District Four and he is running for re-election. He is a good person. My vote for constable is for incumbent Harvey B. Campbell. Harvey B. Campbell is a winner.

.

The mayoral race in Jenkins promises to be one of the most interesting races in Letcher County. No fewer than five citizens have expressed their interest in upsetting the current administration. Dissatisfaction with higher taxes and huge debts has the citizens clamoring for a change in leadership. It is time for a certain individual to step forward and announce publicly what she has indicated to her friends in her inner circle. Honey, all of us will get behind you 100 percent. You have a proven record of leadership and financial expertise. We know you can pay all the bills and have money left over. It is time for you to use your expertise and move our city forward.

.

Randy Blair is on the radio saying that the PVA does not raise your taxes, but he can sure raise the value of your home making your taxes go up. Come on, Randy Blair. The people in Letcher County are not that dumb.

.

Inquiring minds want to know who the two grouches in Whitesburg are these days.

.

This is to all the campaigners: If you would get out and clean the litter out of the ditches, people might think to get out and vote for you. If you don’t do it, it isn’t going to get done this year.

.

I listened to a recent coal report. I worked 44 years in the coalmines and I don’t have any trace of black lung. I didn’t smoke cigarettes and I didn’t chew tobacco. The only person that I did know who drew black lung benefits died a few days ago. I had more time in the coalmines on coffee breaks than he did. This old stuff about coalmine dust killing people is a bunch of bunk. The EPA and these stupid laws of the land aren’t anything but liars and lies. I worked there 44 years and I’m healthy and happy. I can walk to the top of anybody’s mountain. I worked in dust as bad as anybody and worse than most people. This old dust thing just doesn’t cut it. It is just lies.

(So you’re saying black lung is not a real disease and the people who claim to be suffering from it are liars? Many men have suffered terrible deaths at the hands of what doctors and scientists call black lung. Would you be willing to face their wives and children and tell them their husbands and fathers were liars?)

.

They have made a welfare program out of LKLP by hiring all of these people who are already retired and drawing pensions. The people who need jobs can’t get jobs. We have families all over the county and in eastern Kentucky who should have these jobs instead of these people who are already retired. As far as the sheriff ’s department goes, let the state police officers stay retired from the state and draw their retirement and let someone else who needs the job have it.

.

To the woman who commented about bears in last week’s Speak Your Piece: Bears have been in Kentucky for many hundreds of years — long before white people even came here. The reason bears weren’t here when you grew up is because people had pretty much killed them all. Now they have been reintroduced and I think people have learned how to live with them because this is a bear’s environment. And another thing: Most wild bears are not interested in bothering your grandchildren or hurting people. They try to stay away from people. When they do become a problem and get too friendly and close, then they need to be killed. Other than that they leave people alone. There have only been two bear attacks in the last hundred years in Kentucky, so bears are not out to eat your grandchildren. They are not bloodthirsty monsters. They are a part of creation and a part of nature. God bless.

.

An old man and his son should be ashamed of themselves for doctoring junked cars up and selling them to the poor people of Letcher County. Even worse is the fact that 30 days later they want to go repossess the vehicles from the daughters and the wives. They should be ashamed and closed down. They need to have their doors closed and be forced to move out of Letcher County.

.

I don’t have anything to complain about today. I just thought I would call Speak Your Piece and just say hello to everybody and tell you that God loves you.

.

Did you know ‘My Old Kentucky Home’ a despicable, disgusting pro-slavery song was written by a person who never stuck his big toe in Kentucky? That lady and her Southern gentlemen are weeping in mourning for the big house on the plantation, while the little black children are playing on the little cabin floor. This is the Midnight Phantom and I stand in opposition to these lyrics.

.

Instead of worrying about what other people do, you should have gone fishing with your man while you had him instead of having sex with someone else while he was gone fishing.

.

Don’t these women who marry women and these men who marry men know that if they don’t change they are going to get through the pearly gates? They do need to read the Bible. And to the ones who say they were born that way, nobody in this world could ever change my mind about that being a lie. They were not born that way. God is against homosexuality. It is in the Bible.

.

To the two men who tearing down the old company house: You better be careful. The Social Security disability people will get you. Pictures are being taken.

.

My husband and I went up on the hill the other night to listen to the band. Looks like they have two fine bartenders up there. Not. They need to do some rearranging up there.

.

This is from the Pryors in Holland, Texas. Thank you so much for all the seeds and everything you have sent. Please give us a call sometime. We love you. From your cousin.

.

I’d like to thank everyone for praying for me. I am doing pretty good now.
