What I find so fascinating is that if you hit the curb when parallel parking you fail your driver’s license test, but how many people parallel park after they get their license? I also find if fascinating that when a sign says merge left, people in the right lane think they have the right of way to just wait until the lane ends so you stop and let them in front of you. It seems to me they should teach people the signs of the road a little and forget the parking. People, don’t just look at signs, use them. That is what they are there for.

So we have a dysfunctional government, and we’re broke. What now?

.

Thank the Lord we have a man in a powerful position like Mitch McConnell who is getting to work immediately to block President Obama’s job-killing climate bill that will devastate what little is left of eastern Kentucky. Can you imagine Alison Grimes having to take on the Obama Administration in this situation? A scary thought, isn’t it?

.

I was talking to a guy the other day who lives in Whitesburg and he has a neighbor who is very inconsiderate. He has a bunch of dogs that constantly bark day and night. The neighbors just don’t care what they do to their other neighbors. The police won’t do anything about it. There is an app you can download that will attack the dogs’ nerves.

.

I would like to ask people to take the old flowers out of the Kingdom Come Cemetery instead of piling them up there. Thank you.

.

I would like to express my concern about the drug dealers in Letcher County. They go and bust everybody for drugs and they stop people in their vehicles for having drugs. Why don’t they check the employees of the courthouse? If all of the citizens can’t do drugs, they shouldn’t be allowed to either. This needs to be checked into immediately. All of the police, everyone in the sheriff ’s department, all courthouse employees and all establishments in Whitesburg, Neon and Jenkins should be checked.

.

Jim Ward, what are you doing sucking up to people down at the Veterans Museum? Do you think those people are going to vote for you? You are going to get beat in the fall. The Boone Fork senior citizens are going to help put that other guy in because of the way you treated them and the way you wouldn’t take up for them. Codell, that’s why you got yourself beat; you didn’t take up for your seniors.

This is to the coal miner who says there is no black lung: My husband died March 3 and yes, it does exist. My husband had several biopsies and it came back black lung. And he didn’t have lung cancer.

I would like to thank Josephine Richardson and Laura Schuster for many years of fine dining. I will surely miss the Courthouse Cafe as will many others. The restaurant was a gathering place for many social engagements. It sort of reminds of me of the show ‘Cheers.’ The excellent food, the wonderful friends, the seemingly unending laughter, were all part of a fantastic experience that made the cafe what it was. Now, when I walk down the street and look in the window there, I will still hear the laughter, see the smiles, enjoying creative cuisine that had been prepared with great care. I suppose it its true that ‘all good things must come to an end.’ This was truly a ‘good thing.’ A good place. Good people. I wish Josephine and Laura the very best. Thanks for the great memories and wonderful food.

People, in case you haven’t noticed your AEP bill since it went down from the winter monopoly charges, take a look. You will be getting charged about twice what your bill has been when they change to natural gas. Already, you are helping AEP stamp out coal. Natural gas is cheaper for the CEO’s and companies only, not for you. It is estimated now that your power bill in winter will be about as much as an average mortgage payment. Surely we are thought of by most as stupid hillbillies, but just call them and listen to their explanation of why your power bill is so high and you will see how stupid they think you are. Example: I was not even in the U.S. one month a few years back and got the same or maybe even more of an expensive power bill. Their explanation for this was my kids must have used it. I have never been married, have no kids, and had a steel door with locks on it. Try asking AEP any question. It is amusing how stupid they consider us. Does anyone know the earth rotates and the jet stream moves air from unregulated countries to here every day, week, month, and year? We supply China money and breathe China’s poison air. Fracking for gas and the contents of the chemicals used to do so is not even made to be told by the gas companies by our government. These chemicals contain many carcinogens, which is cancer-causing agents. You can see the air pollution, but you cannot see the poisons in your water. So, you are going to die of cancer from your water, but not air pollution. Anyone ever have their rainwater tested? The government, gas companies, and large corporations appreciate your ignorance while they drink bottled water and breathe clean air in their offices and homes while they watch you die and the economy rise from each drop in the population.

Just to obtain a needed low-level pain pill at the pain clinic in Hazard, you have to pay $1,029 dollars for their urine test, plus $25 to $50 dollar co-payment, and then you get charged anywhere from $400 on up for your pain pills that were $ 17 to $ 50 dollars when Mountain Comp could write the same. Basically if you don’t have insurance or Medicare you will have to pay $1,400 to $2,000 cash for the same. Check it out. Call the pharmacist and ask what a hundred oxycodone tablets cost in 5- or 10-milligram tablets. And the ignorant wonder why a big portion of people are changing to heroin at $400 dollars delivered? Ike Adams, you take over for a while a while on one of these subjects while I find the article I wrote in 2010 on the great prohibition of pills and what would be, that now is. I will then have proof that ‘I told you so’ as to what was coming when UNITE and others were on the glory campaign for money, grants, and publicity that proved as useless and harmful as alcohol prohibition. It made a great jump in crime and money then, and now. You have choices in how you die, but the government and big business don’t care.

.

This is the old cat killer. I have several family members who live out of state that I send The Mountain Eagle to and they absolutely love it because it is the best little paper in the whole wide world. Just over that woman doing that, I have a brother in Ohio I will send a subscription to, so don’t worry about that lady. If she can’t be humorous and if she is that upset over a bunch of stinking cats, I will replace the customer that you lost. Thank you kindly.

.

Go to any government office in Letcher County and ask a question more controversial than ‘What do you think of the weather?’ You’ll get a pause and thoughtful look as the government worker analyzes how this will affect him or her with the Circuit Court, the District Court, Fiscal Court, and all the others. How honest do you think the answer will be? Disgusting.

.

This is the person who made the derogatory statement about Woody Holbrook being the magistrate and going to take care of the lower end. What do I base this on? I am going to be real honest with you, when we had a magistrate on this end, he took care of us. I guess you can say I am just a little bit jealous, a little bit wise and a little bit not nice.

.

Congratulations, Meg. You did it. We are very proud of you. Love, Auntie, Uncle, Tommy, Sally, Derek and Grant.

.

Everybody knows that God only made one angel here on earth and she goes to First Baptist Church. If you don’t know, just ask seven men about her.

.

I think it’s hilarious that a woman would get in Speak Your Piece and make such alluring comments to a man and disgrace herself that way. You are a tramp.

.

Congratulations, Lane. Way to go. We are proud of you.

Funny how easy it is for some people to flip flop. Comments Rand Paul made six years ago show he once shared views similar to President Obama’s current ones. While speaking at a rally for his first Republican presidential campaign in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in February 2008, the younger Paul criticized coal for the pollution it causes and touted nuclear energy instead. ‘Nuclear power is the cleanest form of energy that you have. France is virtually independent of oil because 70 percent of their energy comes nuclear power. Now does nuclear power have to be done safely? Yes. But compare nuclear power with coal power. I mean coal power is a very dirty form of energy,’ Paul said at the rally for his father. ‘It’s probably one of the least favorable forms of energy.’ All it took for this flip flop was for us to elect a half black President.

.

I will vote for anyone running for mayor of Jenkins before I vote to reelect the one we have now. You are beatable. Don’t kid yourself. There has been way too much scandal in your administration.

.

To a certain man: Please stop smoking or at least quit lying about it. Your boys think you are cheating on their mom. The best thing to do is to come clean and tell them that you are just going out all the time to smoke.

.

Some people are so cruel. They talk about you and never think about how it is going to hurt you. If I were you, I would keep my opinions to myself.

.

This is the Midnight Phantom. I am offering a $500 reward to any crow or hawk who will shake his or her crotch at the people across the road. They may take you to court, but I will pay for your attorney. Do you accept my challenge?

.

The EPA bases its regulations on facts and states that by 2100 at least six island nations will be primarily under water. Also, parts of New York City, Newark, Delaware, and the southern tip of Florida will be flooded, affecting almost 10 million inhabitants. As along as that’s all that will be affected and Kentucky is not on the list, why should we care? Vote Republican.

.

Senator Mitch McConnell is a perfect example of political double talk. He favors Kynect, which is Kentucky’s version of Affordable Health Care, but he is opposed to Obamacare, which is also Affordable Health Care. He keeps spitting out this political gibberish hoping that the voters are too stupid to see what a hypocrite he is. He knows that the Affordable Health Care is here to stay and will eventually be as successful as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and other social programs yet he still wants to attach President Obama’s name to the program to appeal to the prejudice of some voters. I would like to contribute enough to his campaign to pay for his suitcase when he is sent packing in November. He has pooped in his own nest and will leave Washington in disgrace.

.

This is concerning a magistrate’s son who got caught red-handed breaking into a trailer and was out of jail almost before the word spread. This is at least the third felony he has committed, apparently without consequences. Has some sort of a deal been struck that the magistrate’s son never has to pay for any of his crimes? Easy to believe, considering the fact that he hasn’t paid so far and considering that’s the way government is conducted around here.

.

To the voters in District 1: There is a candidate running for constable in District 1 who is keeping Whitco from getting a park for our kids to play. Also, he closed a county road saying it belongs to him. He runs people off the road claiming the road is his. Just remember this person on the next election day when you go to vote.
