I am responding to recent negative comments about David Narramore. He is a fine man with morals and values — a faithful husband and wonderful father. On any given day he can walk into our Kentucky State Capital and meet with our state leaders. They know him. He can walk into our United States Capital in Washington and meet with Senators. They too know him. He will be our voice for eastern Kentucky. Not only will he be instrumental in bringing prosperity to our little town of Whitesburg, he will help all of eastern Kentucky. His chose to live and serve people here, made this his home, raised his family right here, and now he wants to work for you. Let’s vote for Dr. David Narramore, a Christian man with a good and clean heart.

Nineteen dollars and ninety-five cents was once the first price for Internet service and was promised by TVS Cable to stay that way for longtime customers. It remained that way for about six months or so until they raised their new customer hook-up to $24.95, then all went to $24.95 after a few months and there was no longer a $19.95. However, the slow speed stayed the same or even slower because of more customers. The lower-priced service became useless for much more than e-mail unless you wanted to wait about a half an hour to be able to look at some website like eBay. Online courses such as college or a GED were so slow you could read a few more pages of your homework book while you were waiting for it to download. Uploads were even slower. In the past two years with every upgrade or change in TVS, the price is all that was upgraded and the quality of channels or types were downgraded to cheaper for them, more costly for you, and the Internet speed was lower and the price raised. I noticed a few months ago that the speed of the Internet was getting slower and also had gone to $32-plus. The service is now at $37.45 and even slower. I asked someone what they were paying for the TV service and it is now $68.84. If you pay by money order it is just a little over $70. Dish Network is $39.99 plus they have some hidden fees and taxes which would make it about $50 altogether for 240 channels. If you bundle and get Internet service it is cheaper with more speed. Anyone who knows of better deals, please let us know through Speak Your Piece. At least 20 to 25 of us in my area have had enough of higher prices and downright lies from TVS, also known as Thacker and Grigsby. An example of the lies is that the Magic Jack does not have service in Knott County, but according to multiple calls TVS has nothing to do with this. I have actually had the Magic Jack phone service on the computer while asking TVS questions on the phone. The problem is that if you don’t preload a card for two cents a minute extra one cannot even call into Knott County on a Magic Jack. Two cents a minute is the same price you have to pay Magic Jack extra to call almost anywhere in Europe. Wayne County in Michigan is one of the only other counties I have found of more than a hundred that don’t let Magic Jack work in their county. Need proof? Call TVS and ask them and they will answer they have nothing to do with it. Call Amsterdam for the same price as Knott County on a Magic Jack. It is more interesting anyway. And to be fair, Magic Jack isn’t $19.95 anymore, but is $29.95 which is still 10 to 12 times cheaper than Thacker and Grigsby’s home in-county phone service. Any questions or answers to a good Internet service would be appreciated. TV has gone to hell anyway, so it doesn’t matter much anymore. Check it out at ‘speakeasy speed test.’

A comment in the September 3 issue of Speak Your Piece said that since G.C. Kincer became mayor Jenkins has moved forward farther and faster than it had in 20 years, in part because former Mayor Shubert had his hands full cleaning up the mess from previous administration. The comment also said a descendant of one of those horrible mayors now wants a piece of the action. It obvious the caller has no knowledge of our present or past financial stability or just does not care. When my uncle Ernest ‘Sam’ Wyatt took office, the City of Jenkins had 12 cents in cash as starting capital, no working equipment such as backhoe, one police patrol car in which the gas tank had been sugared, and was $500,000 in debt. A great man by the name of John Griffin loaned the city start up money, a backhoe and dump truck to operate the road and water department. This same great man served this city as a full-time protem mayor for free. My uncle’s pay was $500 and later $600 monthly. When there wasn’t enough revenue to make the payroll he was the first to tell the city clerk to ‘pay the others and let mine go?’ Then you want to call him a horrible mayor? I dare you. My uncle is not in this race. I, John Wyatt, am the man who is running for mayor, and no I do not have any desire to get ‘a piece of the action,’ as the caller said. I do have a desire and determination to see that this city does not return to the same condition as it was when my uncle became mayor. There is such a law as open records request. So rather than hiding behind this paper, go to City Hall and get your facts before you slander an innocent man. I will be more than happy to share many other facts in person. Please feel free to call me anytime. My number is 634- 7029. Sincerely, John Wyatt.

I live in Payne Gap, but I just want to put my opinion out there. Todd DePriest is a good and friendly guy, but that’s not all it takes to be a mayor. Straight to the point: Todd is not mayor material. He is young and has some learning to do. By the way, G.C. Kincer is no angel, but Jenkins has more going on since he has been mayor than Whitesburg and Neon combined. Think about it. I think I’d keep G.C. in office until there are some mature, competent people running against him.

.

A recent caller said Mitch ‘The Abominable ‘No’ Man’ McConnell had nothing to do with the 18 trillion dollar debt, even though the deficit is actually less than that. Where was this person when President George W. ‘W’ Bush, enabled by the sheep who voted for him, was happily doubling the national debt by borrowing from the Chinese to fund his horrible Middle East disasters, installing Medicare Part D without paying for it, and cutting taxes mostly for rich people when they weren’t even asking for it? I know it’s one of the Republicans’ favorite Big Lies that the debt is all President Obama’s fault, which is why the caller didn’t mention any of the above, but half the people remember the truth. And we realize that most of the money President Obama has spent was to get the country out of President George W. ‘W’ Bush’s Great Recession. Or do Republicans think letting our country sink into the Second Great Depression would have been better?

.

I have seen one of the council members out campaigning for the current mayor. I have also heard that all of them are allegedly for him. Clean house, Jenkins. Out with the whole bunch, including the mayor.

.

Todd never did much of anything. I can’t think of much Terry or John did, either.

.

If one of our past county officials made money off Consolidation Coal Company, how much money is one of our present officials making off EQT, formerly known as Equitable Gas Company? Think about it, people.

.

It looks like Isom Days turned out to be the same thing it was last year — one big joke. They show the same stuff over and over on Channel 98. I just think it’s a joke. Thank you.

.

It looks like Mitch Mc- Connell is doing everything he can, even lying, to keep his job. I voted for him the last two times, but what has he done? Nothing. I have friends who have lost their jobs and have had to go out of state to get new ones. What has McConnell done about it? Nothing.

.

People of eastern Kentucky, what has Mitch Mc- Connell ever done to help the poor, the sick or the unemployed? He has served under Republican presidents and has never helped the people of eastern Kentucky with their problems and their needs. Wake up, Kentucky, it’s time to ditch Mitch.

.

To the churchgoing Christian man: How can you let your child carry another man’s name?

.

I was just calling to see why we can’t get computer work in Whitesburg like they have in Hazard with Sykes. They also have one in Norton and one in Pikeville, but we can’t get one in Whitesburg. Our mayor and our judge and our magistrates ought to be getting a data company to come here.

.

Yes, I’m waiting on my check. Everybody is so ignorant and poor around here it is ‘checkness.’

.

I was up in Carbon Glow the other day and saw where the gas company has the road torn all to pieces. I have never seen the beat where the county judge allows the gas company to destroy people’s road. You can’t even ride a four-wheeler up and down Carbon Glow Road now because it is in such bad shape.

.

A big hello. Hey brother, how are you? Hello Red and hello Denver. Hope you guys are doing great.

.

I think there are a lot of people in Letcher County who need to mind their own business and leave Deputy Sheriff Gale Dean Campbell alone. At least Gale Dean is out working and trying to make a living and not lying around on his hind-end. Just keep doing what you’re doing, Gale Dean. You’re doing a good job, buddy.

.

To Mr. Midnight Phantom: This is also a white man speaking. No, Speak Your Piece is not prejudiced for giving you one minute. That’s exactly what they give me. If you want to make a 13-minute comment you have to write it in. Or could it be you are like me and can’t spell all that good? I’m proud of Speak Your Piece. This is old Cat Killer with a great big meow. Have a good day.

.

The Neon Police Department needs to do something about the man in the silver car selling drugs and buying drugs.

.

A mayor’s personal business is not just his personal business when he holds public office. The current Jenkins administration has had one embarrassing event after the other. It is shameful. I want morals in City Hall. And it is the people’s business. Our tax dollars pay his salary. I am voting for Mr. Litts. Thank you.

.

Jesus said, ‘He who loves me.’ Do you all love him? You better, because ISIS is coming and President Obama is not stopping them. Use some napalm, you done S.O.B.

.

I believe I have found two good ways to stop a lot of complaining about stuff going on here in Letcher County. One, stop putting all this stuff in Speak Your Piece. Two, stop putting the Letcher Fiscal Court meetings on TV. This would stop a lot of the griping.

.

It’s time to end the Shubert dynasty at Jenkins City Hall. Thirty years is too long for one family to rule the city. I mean get rid of all of them, the in-laws, outlaws and spouses.

.

I’d like to thank the Kentucky State Police for taking over our school system’s lockdown drills. I feel much safer with my children knowing that the state police are know running the show.

.

I am strongly against letting other kids from other school districts come in to the district they do not belong in. All that does is overcrowd the school and cause problems. When you are bringing in 100 or 75 kids a day into a small school you will get nothing but problems.

.

A few parents can’t stand up for anything. Stand up for your child. Six or seven hours’ worth of homework a night is ridiculous.

.

You have some teachers who jump over the secretaries, assistants and principals because they think they run the school. Honestly, I think some of them do. I think you all need to grow a backbone. Ridiculous is ridiculous and stupid is stupid. Instead of sitting in the backseat complaining and talking about them, why don’t two or three of you go and tell what you feel? What’s wrong with that? Go to the secretary or principal. If that doesn’t work, there is the board of education. If that doesn’t work, there is Frankfort. Get a grip, people.

.

There is something wrong when you have to hire three people to collect taxes in a small city of barely 2,000 people. Jenkins has the city attorney filing claims for delinquent taxes. You also have a person collecting occupational taxes and now you have a person collecting taxes on alcohol. For the sake of efficiency, shouldn’t one person be able to do all of those jobs? It is bad enough to have to pay the high taxes in Jenkins without having to pay for the extravagances and waste perpetrated by our elected city officials.

.

To all the lawyers in Whitesburg quoting the letter of the law: You best be telling the truth, because you may be recorded.

.

Hi. There is an officer in the county who will pull you over and will get right directly in your face and drop those f-bombs. As he is dropping the f-bombs he spits on you. So all you people be aware that we have a spitter for a county mountie.

.

Why is the county wasting so much money on incumbent politician Channel 98? That’s all it is. Every time I turn on that channel there is a certain politician on it. He makes sure that camera goes everywhere he goes. I think it is a big waste of the people’s money.

.

Preacher man, you get paid to preach. The wife works. So stop going to the funeral home to get your extra payday. This needs to be turned into the right ones. He doesn’t want to hurt you, so stop.

.

If Canadians come to America and drink our strawberry energy drink and think it is okay to waste it and leave it on their desk, they got another think coming. They can stay up north of the boarder and eat their Poutine, eh? You know who you are.

.

This is for the woman who lives in Burdine and has all of the dogs in her yard. You need to feed those dogs every now and then. Maybe then they wouldn’t bark and disturb the whole neighborhood all the time.

.

Mitch McConnell said that Obama was going to take away my right to choose my doctor. McConnell is a lying stack of youknow what. The freaking insurance company took away my choice of doctors 15 years ago. My employer chooses my doctor, not me. So what’s Obama got to do with it?

.

This is a direct message to a certain person: Pretending to be someone or something you are not doesn’t change who you are. You were my teacher in sixth, seventh and eighth grade. You were one of the worst if not the worst and definitely the most boring teacher I ever had. Prior to a spelling test, do you remember saying ‘Boys, them words is easy’? As far as a coach, I ask this, how many championships did you win? Let us know, big boy. Does that make you a great teacher and superb coach? I think not.

.

It’s a shame that a woman with $65 worth of food stamps traded it to another lady for $65 worth of Suboxone. That’s taking food right out of her children’s mouth. That is a dirty shame. That is happening right here in Whitco.

.

To a certain lady in Hemphill: Your workingman is going to catch you. Beware.

I have lost my 1996 class ring. My name is Amy Melissa Sexton and it is inscribed on the inside of the ring. It has a purple jewel with two diamonds, one on each side. Please call me back at 855- 7108. No questions asked. There is a reward of $100 for this ring.

.

David Narramore, tell the residents of Whitesburg who you have picked to run City Hall. I hear it is the owner of a certain store that collects alcohol taxes. The same store owner who states ‘no employees’ to ‘avoid’ paying occupational tax. Same store owner who will be in City Hall where the alcohol tax is collected. Conflict of interest? Yes, indeed. Bad judgment, bad decisions, bad leadership by you, David. Are you running for office on behalf of this person? Who else pulls your strings, puppet man?

.

Hello, hi and howdy, folks. Well as the late, great George Jones used to sing, ‘The Race is On.’ I’ve been doing a lot of head scratching here lately, trying to figure out why people would go through all the trouble to raise astronomical amounts of money to run for a Senate seat to join a do-nothing Congress in Washington, D.C. Neither one is giving you the whole truth. You have one who says that he is ‘A friend of coal,’ but yet the coal industry has been in decline for the past 30 years — the same amount of time that he has been in office. Why does he wait until election time to declare a war on coal? This election is not about Obama — it’s about jobs and the economy. The bottom line is that technology, market trends, cost of production, and limited resources are the reasons that coal is waning in Kentucky. It’s why states like Wyoming are surpassing us in production, not to mention Colombia, too. The other candidate is attempting to distance herself from the leader of her political party. She criticized her opponent for voting against a bill designed to protect women from violence, but yet she had a former president and known womanizer speak in her behalf. I feel that is an insult to African Americans and women all over the state. If she is not loyal to members of her political party, then how much do you think she will be loyal to you? I haven’t heard any real solutions to any of the state’s issues and problems — have you? Maybe that’s why they both are avoiding debates; they don’t have any solutions and that would definitely be exposed in a debate. All that I’ve heard and seen is a lot of mudslinging, trash talking and finger-pointing but no real answers or solutions to our problems in Kentucky. It’s just more of the ‘same old, same old’ politics and I do not envy you when you make your choice of the lesser of two evils, so to speak. Until next time, I’m on the inside, looking out.

.

In reference to a comment from a self-annointed expert on Mitch McConnell: If you care enough to get your story correct, Obama destroyed more coal jobs in six months (6,000 jobs in Kentucky to be more accurate) than Mitch could put together in 30 years. Those jobs are now on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s desk, all being guarded by the EPA and enforced by the Corps of Engineers. In fact, Harry Reid now holds captive 360 House-approved pieces of legislation, mostly pertaining to coal, the pipeline from Canada, and natural gas. As for the statement that Mitch is against the minimum wage and equal pay for women, that is just liberal jargon. We have been living in the greatest country in the free world with the best safety net for the poor with extravagant opportunities for all who want to work.

.

Recently I had a chance to observe a trial being held at our Letcher County Courthouse. It was more like a three-ring circus. The courtroom doors were like swinging doors at a saloon, very distracting. People from the gallery and courthouse employees were constantly entering and leaving, and this was during the proceedings. The prosecuting attorney was allowed to insult defense witnesses; he had a tiger in his tank. When witnesses were asked a question they could not answer beyond a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ No explaining what they were saying. And the jury. There were two or three jurors that did not go along with the others, but after a long day it was getting late and they were wanting to go home and did not want to stay and fight for what they thought was right, so they gave in. Of course the defendant was hung out to dry. And they call this the Justice System in Letcher County.
