Voters, ask yourselves who is going to do the most good for most of the people in Kentucky. Mitch McConnell’s record speaks for itself. He is against raising the minimum wage, although he has received many pay raises. He is against equal pay for women. He is against unions. He is against affordable health care. He is against lowering interest rates on student loans. He didn’t participate in any of those meetings to help bring new industry to eastern Kentucky. Do you want six more years of this?

.

You talk about somebody like a dog. Then you see that he can do a lot for you and the school.

.

To a certain woman: I want to know if you know that your husband has been having an affair for over 17 years with a woman that you know. I think it is a shame that as good a person as you are, a man would do you this way.

.

I really enjoyed the Letcher County Central and Harlan County Central game the other night. I couldn’t understand the man who called that game. He has been calling games for 30 years. He never got a play call right. A personal foul ends up being off sides. He did that the whole ballgame. I think they need more professional guys to call the games.

(Why not just be happy the games are being broadcast on the radio in the first place? These people do a tough job, and do it mostly for the love of the sport. Calling a game is one of those jobs people think is easy until they try it themselves.)

.

I think it is a shame that these people are using coal to get elected into a political office.

.

What has the mayor and City of Jenkins, Letcher County Judge/Executive Jim Ward and members of fiscal court, our state representatives and our state senator done to force the owner of the old Beth-Elkhorn shops to clean up the polluted mess? How is Gary Royalty getting away with owning this polluted area? When will the citizens of Jenkins demand that something be done?

.

Have the mayor and city council of Jenkins recognized Tommy Greer and Ked Sanders for all of their work to improve the Jenkins City Park? Their work was all done for free, and without them the Jenkins festival would never be a success.

.

What is the mayor of Jenkins doing to clean out the ditches and right of way to save the asphalt and for the public safety of all people who drive?

.

Here is the extended weather forecast from your local hippy dippy weatherman in Jenkins. On Tuesday, November 4, Election Day, there will be low-lying clouds of gloom over City Hall as the election votes are counted. By the time the fi- nal count is tallied, the earth will shake from fists pounding on desks. There will be crying, wailing and gnashing of teeth as the politicians ponder where they can find another job doing so little and being paid so much. On Wednesday, November 5, the National Guard and FEMA will be on standby as there will be enough teardrops to float a boat through downtown Jenkins.

(Surely you’re not being serious with the ‘being paid so much’ portion of your comment.)

.

I know the voters in Jenkins must be distraught with all the goings-on in city hall during this administration. Just keep these two proverbs in mind to help lift your spirits during the remaining days until the new mayor and council members are sworn in. ‘When you are down and out the only way is up’, and ‘the darkest night is just before dawn’. We the voters are responsible for the government we have so let’s all get out and vote and end this fiasco.

.

I want to give a shout-out to a certain guy who drives a Jeep and has been coming to Isom to see a girl in a blue car. Mr. Jeep, you are a married man. If you don’t cut out what you are doing, I’m going to talk to your wife. I know her well.

.

What happened to the utility commission for the City of Jenkins? Why was this commission disbanded when they made wonderful recommendations to the mayor and city council? What is wrong with having citizens involved in city government?

.

I see that the one who is making the meth on Linefork has a different vehicle. I followed him out of Linefork heading toward Perry County. I wonder if the Perry County law would like to know what he is doing. Maybe he is hauling it to Perry County.

.

I listened to the debate on KET between Alison Grimes and Mitch McConnell. I had good intentions of voting for McConnell, but Grimes pointed out that McConnell voted 17 times not to raise minimum wage. That is a disgrace to anybody. You should want someone to make better money, a better living. A lot of folks work for minimum wage. Now my vote is for Grimes.

.

Tune into 88.7 on your FM dial. Sometimes you might not like, but sometimes you might love it. You just never know. Give it a chance.

.

It just occurred to me as I was pulling out of a parking lot in my car, I was fretful that I didn’t put my seatbelt on. I put it on for fear of getting pulled over by the police. Then I realized that motorcycle riders in Kentucky can drive anywhere they want to without a helmet. I’m not sure I see the picture here. It sounds like an insurance scam to me.

.

I listened to the debate between Grimes and Mc- Connell. How rude and arrogant can any candidate be to an opponent to interrupt the host as well as the opponent while talking? All Grimes could present was a negative remark about a well-respected senator of 30 years. She neither has my respect nor my vote after this.

.

The cops caught a bunch of druggies on Pert Creek. The other ones better be careful. They’ll get told one too and they’ll get picked up. I wish they would clean it all up and we’d be better off.

.

I wonder if the guy who got caught on Pert Creek knows that his mother would probably turn over in her grave if she knew he got put in jail over the weekend when he should have been in church.

.

Mitch McConnell says he will help the coal industry. He has been in office for 30 years and what has he done for the coal industry in that time? Grimes has been endorsed by the UMWA. So who do you think will help the coal miner?

.

Mayor Kincer’s personal life is the business of the citizens of Jenkins. He is a paid elected official. I am voting for Mr. Stevie Litts.

.

I don’t trust Mr. DePriest. I hope the citizens of Jenkins will put things into perspective and do what is right for our town. Please vote for Stevie Litts. Our town needs him.

.

Mitch McConnell talks about the devastating impact of Obama’s policies. Instead, he needs to look at himself. He was a strong supporter of the Bush administration that was very destructive to our country with the collapse of Wall Street and a war based on lies that we are still paying for and will be for years to come. Not to mention the lives lost and the families that were affected. It is time for a change.

.

Concerning the distillery issue, if people of age could walk in off the street and buy up to two quarts of moonshine, people would be lined up just like it is a package store. There is no difference between that and a package store? What are they trying to pull?

(There are two package stores in Whitesburg now. Neither seems to be having a problem with people lining up to get inside.)

.

Something needs to be done about the bullying on the bus over on Carcassonne and Elk Creek. The kids get spit on and they get hit. Bullying isn’t supposed to be allowed at schools or buses anymore and it is happening every day on this bus. Something needs to be done.

.

To all the people in Letcher County who have purchased health insurance under the Affordable Care Act or Kynect: Mitch McConnell has already promised to appeal the Affordable Care Act, which would kill Kynect. Why would you vote for him?

.

To the lady I sit behind in church just about every Sunday: I have heard stories about you and I didn’t believe anything. I have been praying for you and now you are in trouble for selling drugs. Have a little respect for the church.

.

There was a mistake made in last week’s Speak Your Piece. It was Middle Cowan School that wanted to thank Community Trust Bank and Food City for donations and help with the school reunion this year. Thank you so much.

(Thank you for clearing it up!)

.

Here we go again in Whitco, with people getting into other people’s business. If people would mind their own business the world would be a better place.

.

This goes to a man who drives a Dodge Charger. You will always be my baby no matter what. I don’t care if you’ve got 15 women. You will always be mine. I know you still love me and I love you. Take care of yourself, babe. I love you. I miss you so much. I hope to see you soon. From your secret admirer.

.

Our politicians, Democrats and Republicans, need to get their minds off politics and try to work together to get things passed in Congress and Senate to better serve this country. Both sides needs to negotiate laws to better serve this country. Don’t worry about health care. When President Obama is out of office, time will take care of that. United we stand. Divided we fall.

.

I worked nearly 30 years in the coal mines. Mining equipment and supplies were not made in Kentucky. If any parts that went down on equipment, we had to go to Virginia or West Virginia to get. To all of you coal miners who are laid off: Remember, they should have had plants and factories in here to make parts and you can blame nobody but Mitch McConnell. Get your head out of your hind end before it is too late.

.

Jenkins Mayor G.C. Kincer has put an ad in the paper listing all of the things he has accomplished. Let’s give credit where credit is due. If it hadn’t of been for his city administrator who has done all of the work for him, we wouldn’t have gotten hardly anything done. Let people realize that Todd DePriest is the one who did all of the work even though he didn’t get the mayor’s pay.

.

Mitch McConnell and company are screaming at the Centers for Disease Control for not making the Presbyterian hospital do more for the Ebola patient in Dallas. But if Mitch and company hadn’t cut the CDC budget to nearly half what it was, CDC’s Ebola research might have the vaccine ready to save us millions if not billions in prevention costs here at home, to say nothing thousands of lives internationally.

.

I just couldn’t help but comment about the debate concerning the proposed moonshine distillery. Some blamed it on the holy rollers and the Bible thumpers because the council wouldn’t pass it in spite of only one council member and one preacher having things to say about it. You must understand that if it wasn’t for the Bible thumpers and the holy rollers, Whitesburg would not be wet at this time. Please remember that only residents of Whitesburg could vote. Whitesburg has about eight churches inside the city limits. If only half the membership of the biggest church, First Baptist, had voted wet it would not have passed. Thanks, Bible thumpers. Thanks, holy rollers. The gentleman who wanted to put the moonshine still in belongs to Millstone Missionary Baptist Church.

.

It is against the election bylaws for veterans’ clubs for anyone campaigning to place signs at veterans’ clubs. This is a veteran speaking.

.

Everybody needs to remember that if you go to the ATM at Community Trust Bank, take a flashlight. The light shines real bright on the other side of it.

.

This message goes to whoever hid my Oak Ridge Boys CD: I’m not putting the Christmas tree up until I get it back.

(Thanks for the laugh — just when we needed it.)

.

I’d like to make a comment on the new land tax increase. I am a widowed woman. My husband worked so hard and we tried all our life. I think it is a shame that they increased my taxes in November, which was $1,100 to $1,600 and in February they will go to $2,200. It isn’t the widow’s fault about the coal severance tax money. People won’t be able to buy property in Letcher County. The taxes are too high.

.

I think Beckham Bates Elementary School was the best school around. My kids did very well and learned a lot. Quit putting Beckham Bates Elementary School down. It was a good school.

.

Watch what you say and watch what you do.

.

I’m just wondering what preacher you are talking about. Is it the Percocet preacher?

.

Wonder if Letcher School is going to have a reunion for 1994. I was in that class. Let’s have a reunion and get back together.

.

Speak Your Piece, can you answer a question for me? Is it against the law to sell beer in a yard sale?

(Who knows, but do stay away from bottled beer at yard sales unless you don’t mind your brew being green and smelling like a skunk.)

.

This is to the guy who made the comment about the guy in Ramey Fork: I’ll tell you something, mister. You are messing with the wrong people. When we find out who you are, you disrespectful person, you are going to pay for you. We are going to comb this county and find you. You better run, mister, and you better run fast. We think we know who you are and we aren’t going to quit looking for you.

.

As a Kentuckian from a distance, I’m surprised. On his first visit to Whitesburg, Mitch McConnell didn’t bring the Koch brothers with him so they could take everyone to McDonald’s for a free Big Mac so you would vote for him. On November 4, a vote for Alison Grimes could send Mitch McConnell looking for a new job — one that pays $7.25 an hour with no benefits.

.

Mr. Jenkins Mayor, what are you going to do about the water in our town? Sunday it tested 433, Monday 424. It should register 000, or at least come up to 100. It is not safe to take a shower, much less drink.

.

Let’s vote for and reelect Bobby Ray Howard for magistrate. Bob, I’ve got a favor to ask: Jenny Bates on Cowan has been without a bridge for 10 years now and getting the run-around. It’s not right. She’s my cousin, can you help? Also folks, I’d like to ask everyone who can to vote for Joe Brown, my pastor, for Mayor of Fleming-Neon. He’s a good man and will do a good job. Please print this? Thank you, Stanley Pack.

.

David Narramore has over-promised some of the City of Whitesburg jobs. Some positions (city clerk, water clerk, police chief, fire chief ) he has promised to two or more people. He will promise anything for a vote.

.

One of David Narramore’s main supporters for mayor of Whitesburg pays no employment tax, claiming no employees. The federal, state, Social Security and the city are being cheated out of tax money by this person. The IRS needs to investigate.

.

I was at a soccer game at Letcher County Central last week and saw the new flagpole and seating area. A wonderful addition to the school. I was told it was designed and donated to the school. Was wondering why such a nice thing was never placed in the paper. Just wondering. Thanks.

(We will check on that and see what we can find out. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.)

.

The state authorities claim that they do not have enough individual police offi cers to patrol the highways in the way they should be patrolled. In that case, they should abolish the deputy sheriff ’s department of the county sheriff ’s office and use the money that would save to hire more state police officers. In these rural counties of eastern Kentucky, deputy sheriffs do not patrol any roads anyway — they claim their main job is to collect tax money.

.

You may assume that I did not get a ticket from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers (161 traffic citations issued over Labor Day weekend). I never get any traffic tickets because I never break any of the traffic laws, rules or regulations. However, I notice how only one group or division of the police is willing to dish out tickets to deserving traffic violators. Therefore, I would suggest that a state law should be made which would put the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers in charge of all types or classifi cations of highway traffic, and transfer all other police officers and deputy sheriffs to the duty of tax collecting only.

(Hats off to you for never violating a traffic law, rule or regulation. That’s a tough feat to accomplish when having a car with a burned out brake light, tail light or headlight means you are the violating the law.)

.

With ‘food trucks’ being the big thing in cities and towns all across the United States now, it looks like someone who knows about food and cooking would set up in downtown Whitesburg to take advantage of the lunch crowds that now have nowhere decent to eat downtown. A good living is waiting to be made by some younger person or persons who know what good food is and can prepare it the right way. Another thing that people could make quite a bit of money on is a taxi service.

.

I’m a former employee at a certain store in Whitesburg who was let go for no reason after eight years. I think that company needs to treat employees better, because without good employees a company doesn’t have anything. And to the person that let me go: My children said thanks a lot. You claim to go to church; well, you need to go more because you haven’t learned anything. Why don’t you bums try treating people better? Tim

.

I am really concerned about our town. We have the weakest leadership that we’ve had for a long time. The mayor of Jenkins offers his two accomplishments without telling us the rest of the story. The swimming pool is good but it is costing us dearly. The city doesn’t need to be in the restaurant business. It’s going to take a strong leader with a good mind to get us through this mess. It’s a no brainer. The only person to do this is Stevie Litts.

.

Citizens of Letcher County, Judge/Executive Jim Ward wants to apply to all Letcher Countians a mandatory county tax. This is a tax that will be based on a percentage of your money. Since the coal severance tax will not be available to make the payment for the Recreation Center in Whitesburg, this tax on us is what Judge Ward and some of the magistrates plan to make payment with. November is election time, and we cannot allow another tax on those of us trying to make ends meet and survive this harsh times. Find out which of your magistrates and magisterial candidates are supporting this tax. Use your votes to try and stop this from happening. Even if it is only on working people, still we are taxed enough. If this is the case, all Letcher Countians should be able to use the Rec Center for free, since we are making the payment on the place. Vote NO for Judge Ward and those magistrates that support this idea.

(What makes you believe Judge Ward or any of the magistrates or candidates for magistrate support such a tax? To our knowledge, such a tax has never been discussed by anyone.)

.

It’s interesting that Narramore has taken a sudden interest in sports and Letcher County Schools. I had never seen him at a sporting event before he became a candidate for mayor of Whitesburg.

.

It is not just one family or one section of Jenkins that is fed up and embarrassed. Jenkins was referred to as a retirement community, but even that isn’t accurate. With all the over-spending, joblessness and taxes, even the retirees are finding it difficult to make it here. Do we need things here for our young people? Absolutely. But without jobs we don’t have the revenue for that. A lot of people seem to like Todd DePriest, and that’s fine, but he went right along with everything the current mayor did until he decided to run for mayor himself. We need someone who can lead us economically and the only one I see qualified for that is Joe DePriest. I am very thankful to John Wyatt for standing up to the city as well and getting out the information we need to know. Together, hopefully we can move Jenkins away from being a big joke.

.

I see in Speak Your Piece that Mitch McConnell was no help getting the Social Security death benefits owed a widow. For another reader it was more lost coal mining jobs that Mitch keeps bragging about saving. No surprise. Mitch is the guy that wants to gouge Social Security and said 47 million American didn’t ‘go without health care’ because they could just go to the emergency room. He also lies. I’m voting for Alison Grimes.

.

I’m really surprised that some of our current political candidates are running for office when the campaigns are very likely to reveal background issues they probably don’t want made public.

.

I put a little thing in Speak Your Piece last week about a certain store letting me go. Well, I wasn’t talking about the store manager because you couldn’t ask for a better person. I was talking about upper management. You boneheads shouldn’t treat your employees the way you do, but all you’re worried about is the almighty dollar. All you supervisors are all company sucks, but guess what? They don’t care about you either. So don’t be stupid.
