President Obama has destroyed more coal jobs in six months than Mitch McConnell could have in all the 30 years he’s been in office. People, don’t be fooled. We know who the true friend of coal is in this election. Please get out and vote for Senator McConnell and help put our people back to work.

.

While I have become very impressed with Alison Lundergan Grimes and the excellent campaign she has been running or the office of United States Senator, I won’t be voting for her this time. This is only because I believe the Republicans are going to reclaim the Senate for a short time, and during that time we will need the experience and power of our new Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, to try to get something done about the hard times we are having in eastern Kentucky. As you can tell, I am not a political hater like some. I just believe McConnell will be able to get more done for his state as Majority Leader than a freshman senator could ever dream of doing.

.

Mitch McConnell has had 30 years to help the people of Kentucky. Do you think he is going to change his policies now if he becomes majority leader of the senate? Remember that McConnell said if re-elected he will work had to raise the retirement age, get rid of affordable healthcare, get rid of food stamps, work against raising the minimum wage and make people with student loans pay higher interest rates while giving tax cuts to the rich. If this is what you want for six more years, then you vote for Mitch so he can continue his war on the middle class and the poor.

.

This is to the Sandlick man who keeps hollering at my dogs whenever they bark or make a sound: When you make the drug dogs over your way quit barking, maybe my dogs wouldn’t bark so much. You have no right to holler at my dogs.

.

Mitch McConnell doesn’t believe in Social Security. Mitch McConnell doesn’t believe in Medicare. Mitch McConnell doesn’t believe in checks for anybody but politicians.

.

As majority leader of the United States Senate, Harry Reid has blocked 325 bill, much of it legislation that would save eastern Kentucky’s coal industry and put people back to work.

.

I noticed where G. C. Kincer drew number six on the ballot. Hopefully, that is where he will end up.

.

I think it is weird that people actually think they can get by with doing people any way they want to and saying whatever they want to say, then after a few years go by they realize what they have done when karma absolutely comes back and kicks them in the rear. What goes around comes around.

.

To a certain person: You finally got what you deserve. It should have been longer. You will be someone’s dog in prison. They hate child molesters.

.

I want Kentuckians to know that if you have a real pain problem in this state you are in real trouble. You’ll have to buy from the street. The hospitals now will not help you if you have narcotic pain medicine in your system and no doctor to account for it.

.

This is the guy who called about the Harlan County and Letcher County football game: I wasn’t referring to radio announcers Kevin Day and Larry Hatton. I was talking about the guys who did the game on television. Kevin Day and Larry Hatton do an excellent job.

(Thank you very much for clearing that up.)

.

I’m glad that a certain store finally got rid of a certain pill head. It’s a better place now.

.

Beckham Bates Elementary School was the worst school ever.

.

Who needs to watch what they say and do? Speak up. Who?

.

Hatler Kiser put an ad in the newspaper showing all of the donations that Jim Ward has gotten. Kiser had confronted Ward earlier in the year about taking the gas companies’ money. Ward told Kiser that he had taken money from coal companies too, but that isn’t even mentioned. I think Mr. Kiser is running scared and is trying to bring out all of the dirt that he can. This is all public knowledge, as anyone can get on the computer and find out all of the donations that have been made to candidates, including Mr. Kiser.

.

I think changes need to be made at the Jenkins High School Apartments. They let anyone move in there except decent people. They say they make too much money.

.

To a certain guy who drives a Toyota pickup: You need to stay out of the Isom community. You are a married man. That is a shame.

.

It’s a shame that someone is asking for our vote for county judge when he doesn’t even pay for his own county services. Come on, Hatler. Surely you can cough up enough to pay a garbage bill.

.

I just wanted to comment on a certain band director giving all those kids a ‘C’ on their report cards after they worked all summer and stayed on Fridays from 3 o’clock until after the ballgame and then got up and went to an all-day competition on Saturday. He turned around and gave those kids a ‘C.’ I think they all should walk off and not even have a marching band next year.

.

You people who let your kids sleep with dogs need to be locked up. You aren’t anything but filth, letting your kids be with animals.

.

To all you people who have health insurance through the Affordable Care Act: You better vote Democrat if you want to keep it.

.

The Jenkins school district is in the bottom 10 percent of all schools. We’re actually down to the bottom seven percent in the state. Changes need to be made on the school board. The father of that is Durward Narramore and the mother of that is Mrs. Sanders. She is a board member and he is the board chairman. They are out making statements that test scores go here and there, but they love the kids. If they really love the kids they would get the test scores up like the rest of the state.

.

I can’t believe anyone would want to put Alison Grimes in the U.S. Senate with her voting for Obama like she has. The union is behind her. We know what unions do for the mountains. What good is Obamacare? It is raising the prices and people won’t be able to afford it anyway. I don’t understand people at all.

.

Mitch McConnell is a big danger to us all, even though he talks a big talk.

.

Attention, City of Whitesburg voters: Please have your city’s best interests at heart when you vote. Did you know that you are having an outsider campaigning hard while he is secretly campaigning throughout the Letcher County school system? That is against the law. He must think he is above the law or just lacks knowledge. This reminds me of a sheep in lamb’s clothing. Our city is in the best shape it has been in 30 years. Let’s keep it that way.

.

I have been a registered Republican my whole life in Letcher County, but this November 4 my family and I will be voting for Jim Ward for county judge. After listening to Hatler Kiser’s radio ad and the comments he put in the newspaper about Jim Ward, I believe he is a disgrace to the Republican Party. You can see what Jim Ward has done for the county. If Hatler Kiser won, he wouldn’t know which way was up or down.

.

A certain beer store in Virginia needs to get a new assistant manager.

.

Mitch McConnell seems to be an ally for the Koch brothers. Their agenda includes no corporate taxes, no regulations on business, no unions, no social security, no Medicare, no minimum wage, no aid to education and no consumer protections. A vote for Mitch will bring their agenda one step closer to becoming reality. If this is what you want, then vote for Mitch.

.

I am a resident of Defeated Creek and we do not appreciate Hatler Kiser using the people of Defeated Creek in his lies in the radio ad against Jim Ward. Every time we have called the judge’s office or the county road department they have always come and worked our roads. So, Hatler, the lies you told will cost you all the votes in Defeated Creek. We don’t like to be used.

.

Why do people want to discredit President Obama? Have they forgotten who George W. Bush was and the mess that was passed on to President Obama? The national debt has grown slower under Obama than it did under Bush and the deficit has been cut in half. The stock market is doing good. Corporations are making big profits. Private sector jobs are up. Unemployment is down. The housing industry is doing good. The automobile industry is doing good and millions of people now have health care. This is without any help from the Republican Party that has blocked all efforts to help President Obama with his agenda.

.

It’s time to ditch Mitch because he ditched us a long time ago.

.

Mitch McConnell is helping retrain coal miners for nonexistent jobs. If he gets back in there, the available jobs will be away from here.

.

You have heard the old saying ‘sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never heard me.’ If this is true, allow me to thump you over the head with a 13-pound dictionary. I am an antidisestablishmentarian. Thank you for your cooperation. This is the Midnight Phantom speaking.

.

Once again the cops will turn a blind eye to drug dealing in the Slick Rock Road Hollow area in Eolia.

.

Thirty years is long enough for Mitch to get rich.

.

To the one who posted a couple of weeks ago about the cheerleading coach at Jenkins High School: You need to give her a personal apology face to face. She goes above and beyond what is required of her for those kids. She cancels her plans to make sure that they are ready for upcoming competitions. She stays up late worrying that they won’t be ready. She does the things she does with little to no help from people at school or cheerleader parents. She does it because she cares about your kids. Just so you know, this isn’t the cheerleading coach calling this is or any of the cheerleaders or someone related to any of them. Please don’t drag their names through the mud and don’t say anything else about them. Just apologize to the coach and leave it at that. Thank you.

.

To Randy Hall: I just received my property tax bill. You and your assistant both told me if I voted for Randy Blair he would raise my taxes. Well guess what? You raised my taxes, and when I see you gentlemen face to face I will let you know about it. I want everyone to know. And to anyone else who has been done this way: Please respond and we will expose the PVA’s office for what it is, a bunch of liars.

.

When casting your vote for the mayor of Whitesburg, please consider the following: Time spent on one job is time taken away from another. You might ask anyone affiliated with a band how time consuming it is. Band is a year-round activity. Many evenings and weekends are consumed, as well as many hours during the summer months when there is no school. You can ask any student if you want the real truth. However, this could be a good thing for the band. The director would eventually have to give it up, because there is no way he could put all the hours required to have a successful band program. Good riddance.

.

Hopefully this will make the newspaper in Speak Your Piece before the election in November. I know that people have the freedom to vote as they please, but I want to speak my piece as I do not vote for Democrats because of their ungodly agendas. They are for abortion and they are for the abomination of men lying with men. We have a lying Democrat president that is lying about global warming. He and the Democrats have destroyed our coal industry and Mr. Mitch McConnell has stood by and watched it happen. We have no leadership in our nation on either side. We have the lying Democrats that are trying to destroy our nation, and we have the yellow-backed coward Republicans that have no backbone to stand for the people against the foolishness in the White House. A circus clown could run our nation better than what the American people have elected to office. That being said, if you are an American citizen and you vote for a Democrat after you see how they lie to the American people, then you deserve what happens. So I will vote for the Republicans even though it is sickening to do so as they will not stand up for the American people. This nation and its leaders had better be getting their house in order before God rains fire out of Heaven on the ungodly. I would rather hear my dog bark as hear the lying president speak. His speeches are best described in Ecclesiastes 10:13: The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. God is angry with the wicked.

Let me assure all motorcyclists and bikers that if David Narramore is elected Mayor, bike nights will continue as scheduled in downtown Whitesburg. David Narramore is affiliated with the Letcher County Tourism Board and in fact has promoted bike nights, car shows, cruise-in’s, trail rides, and ATV rides as well as many other events that continue to grow and bring people into the community, city and county. David Narramore is in favor of investing in the challenge of bringing new adventures to surface. David Narramore fights for what he believes in and voices his opinion in a positive direction in helping city, community and county. David Narramore has a plan to do whatever it takes to make this area a better place. He is a knowledgeable businessman and leader and will dig in to fight and successfully make the City of Whitesburg the place anyone would be proud to live, work, raise a family, visit, build a dream and so much more.

.

First the extreme conservatives knocked Judge Janet Stumbo off the Kentucky Supreme Court. Now they’re trying to knock her off the Kentucky Court of Appeals in the name of god, guns and coal. Janet Stumbo is a good and fair judge who balances protecting the community with defending the civil rights of all Kentuckians. She deserves to be re-elected.

.

Many of the people who live in the City of Whitesburg either do not or choose not to realize the time and effort that Dr. David Narramore has devoted to planning and promoting tourism. Dr. Narramore has helped with many projects to promote tourism in downtown Whitesburg. The paintings and artwork have brought unique talents forward by local artists. Dr. Narramore is a huge supporter of bike night, which bring motorcyclists into downtown. The City of Whitesburg and Letcher County are economically stressed because of high unemployment and lack of industry. However, Dr. Narramore has sought out and found funding, grants and free labor to help improve our town and county. He is a man of integrity who loves the City of Whitesburg. David Narramore is a leader in our community and speaker for what is best for our city, county and most importantly its people. It’s a time to move forward toward many positive solutions for everyone.

.

Mitch McConnell should block Obamacare after he is reelected, because it’s a total disaster. Mitch is also accused of pushing for higher interest rates on student loans. Not so; liberal propaganda only. Also not true are the claims that Mitch McConnell is not for the coal miners and is playing up to the Sierra Club and the American natural gas industry, which some erroneously claim to be his biggest supporters. Neither the Sierra Club nor the natural gas industry has anything for Mitch McConnell.

.

I find it strange that Mitch McConnell was standing inside the Whitesburg Medical Clinic vowing to kill the Affordable Care Act that has given so many Letcher Countians health care for the first time through Kynect and a bunch of new, paying patients for MCHC. I won’t be voting for Mitch, the man who wants to kill our health care.

.

The man in the Dodge truck is still at it.

.

Some of us believed Mitch McConnell was pretty good until we found out that all his zillions in smear ads against Alison Grimes are paid for by Big Oil, Big Gas, Walmart and Big Banks. It seems Mitch has been taking good care of them for years — not us. My friends say voting for Mitch is like a chicken voting for fingerlickin’ Col. Sanders. I’m no stupid chicken anymore.

.

What is equal housing? To be put on a waiting list? We have been to Mountain Breeze Apartments and filled out an application. They have about five twobedroom apartments open for rent, but there is a threemonth waiting period. We went to Goodwater Falls and all they want is people with disabilities or a certain age. We thought that you couldn’t be discriminated for your age, sex, family status or being disabled or not, but it is happening out there. Yes we have food banks, but what about people with no housing at all? Does anyone care? We have three kids, meaning there is a total of five in my family in need of a place to live. What are people supposed to do about a place to live if no one is willing to help? How long shall people with no place to live have to wait on a place to live at Mountain Breeze or Goodwater Falls or anywhere else. Week after week we have to go place to place, but we can’t even seem to find help at all.

.

Sometimes while I am driving, I come across bags of trash people throw out their windows from fast food restaurants. This is not only littering which is bad and illegal, but it encourages dogs, cats, raccoons, and other critters to be standing in the middle of the road, scavenging for scraps because the smell from the bags lures them. Please don’t throw your bags out. Take them home or throw them away at a gas station. Enough critters get killed without them being enticed to scrounge through good smelling restaurant bags thrown onto the road.

.

To the driver of a Toyota 4-Runner: I saw you and what you did the other day. I am paying attention.

.

Citizens of Jenkins, where has Todd DePriest been for three years and eight months? Making $18 an hour with virtually all the overtime he wanted. Now that he got a little piece of the pie he and his circle want it all. Just use common sense. Why would you vote for a person who is part of the problem? Sorry, it won’t work. If he is so dedicated to our town, why has he been in the middle of all this? Go look at his benefit package and you’ll get your own answer.

.

This is Jon Henrikson, a proud Harvard-educated community organizer from Carcassonne, Letcher County, and Kentucky Education Association Democrat for Alison Grimes. While I have and may well again cast secret votes for Republicans Hal Rogers and Jamie Comer, I never have and never will cast a vote for Republican Mitch McConnell. The difference is three positive bipartisan programs of Hal Rogers, not Mitch McConnell: PRIDE, UNITE and SOAR. You can secretly vote for Alison Grimes. In response to last week’s full page color political ad, I want to report that at Blackey Day I received one bottle of water and good conversation from Republican Hatler Kiser and two bags of popcorn and a campaign t-shirt from Democrat Jim Ward. Carcassonne has received heat pumps from J.W. Kinzer Well Drilling and James River Coal, and thousands in community center, public water, and snow removal from Democrat County Judge/Executive Jim Ward and Magistrate Keith ‘Red’ Combs. All Kentucky has received millions from the Democrat Weinbergs: former state representative and attorney general Bill Weinberg, his son Knott County Judge/ Executive Zach Weinberg, and their wife and mother Lois Combs Weinberg, U.S. Senate candidate opponent of Mitch McConnell and daughter of Kentucky’s great governor, Democrat Bert T. Combs. All these are legal contributions duly reported, not secret bribes of politicians or special interests.

.

Mitch McConnell visiting a not-for-profit medical facility is about like Satan going to church.

.

Okay, you are a lawyer for heaven’s sake. Hire yourself a private investigator to find out where your spouse is about every night, coming home about 11 to 11: 30 and on the weekends later than that.

.

There is no lie he won’t tell or any evil length Mitch McConnell won’t go to in order to win. He tells us nothing he will do. He and the right wing freaks make it up as they go. Mitch is campaigning against Obama, who will be gone in two short years. It’s even more about this old man’s selfindulgence at our expense. If you signed up for health care under Obamacare, you better get out and vote for Grimes. McConnell would like very much to take it away from you, and there goes your help from MCHC or anybody else.

.

Get out and vote, Democrats. It’s the simple way to defeat the lies of the Republicans.

.

If Mitch McConnell wins and we lose Obamacare, don’t whine when some of you lose your jobs.

.

I know most of us will be glad to have the election over so that we don’t have to listen or see campaign commercials. In the meantime I’d like to ponder these thoughts: First, if a candidate accuses a rival of buying votes by putting gravel on a person’s driveway — but can’t or won’t prove it — can that candidate be sued for slander? Second, who cares if the UMWA endorses a candidate? I know they’ve endorsed a certain candidate for the U.S. Senate, but they also endorsed a Presidential candidate who said that ‘If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.’ So excuse me if the UMWA’s endorsement means absolutely zilch to me. I don’t claim that the other candidate has done a thing for coal, but I’d be shocked if a union were to endorse anyone other than a Democrat no matter what sort of views that candidate may actually have on coal. I don’t care who you vote for, but neither of these two — McConnell or Grimes — will do a thing to help coal jobs in Kentucky. Third, I wonder just how quickly all of these campaign signs will come down after November 2? I wish we had a law on the books that would fine candidates if their signs are still up after a short period. People complain about the garbage on the sides of the road, but these signs are just as bad or worse. Thanks, Speak Your Piece, for letting me vent.
