Even though it’s raining today it’s still a bright day for the citizens of Jenkins. Congratulations to Todd Depriest our mayorelect. I’m sure he will do a fine job as our city’s chief executive. If he keeps a transparent administration and listens to the general population, he could be mayor for 20 years. He has had four good years of training on what not to do when you are placed in a position that requires public trust. Goodbye to G.C. Kincer and company.

.

I’m relieved that Whitesburg voters didn’t elect that band director as their new mayor. I really didn’t want to move to another town.

.

I know what’s going on even though I’m down here. I know what is going on in Jenkins. Let me tell you something, if you are stealing that woman’s money I’m going to take a warrant for you — me and my cousin both.

.

To that certain someone: You know who you are. I saw you driving around in your 4-Runner making trouble for the people of this town. Go back to that city you came from. I saw what you did.

.

Does anyone know who is the sorriest and most incompetent lawyer in Letcher County? If anyone else has experienced a bad lawyer, I would like to know. I need to know if he is my attorney now. If anyone has had any experience with an attorney in Whitesburg, please respond in next week’s Speak Your Piece so we can determine if we need to find another attorney.

.

The majority of the citizens of Jenkins should be ashamed of the way they treated Mayor G.C. Kincer during his unsuccessful run for re-election. You people have never been known for being very intelligent politically or otherwise — look at your pitiful test scores in your independent school system — and now you turn your backs on the one man who has had the town moving forward for the first time in many years. If I were the owner of the Mexican restaurant I would be looking to get out of town as fast as I could and concentrate solely on my Whitesburg restaurant. Jenkins people have always been jealous of happiness and success. They won’t be satisfied until every old camp home is an abandoned drug den.

.

To Hatler Kiser: Thank you for having the courage and decency to run against Jim Ward for county judge/ executive. Obviously, you had an uphill battle with Mr. Ward and the thousands of dollars the gas companies give him to protect their interests in our county. If you’d had the money to start making your case with those ads against Ward about two months earlier you would have done much better. As you found out, it is tough to go up against the big gas companies like EQT. Companies like that won’t help people they don’t think they can buy.

.

My daughter lost $200, which was a week’s worth of work. To whoever found that money, if you knew how bad she needs it you would give it back to her. You can call The Pine Mountain Grill and she can get back with you. She needed that money for a house payment. It sure would be appreciated if you return it.

.

I live in the Jenkins area and I voted. I think it is a privilege to vote. It looks like Lakeside is going to get a huge improvement. That’s how everyone voted, so we are going to have to live and bear it for another four years.

.

As Jenkins Mayor-elect Todd Depriest celebrates his victory over his former employer, he should remember that what he did to his ex-boss is the lowest of the low. It takes a real lowlife to run against the man who thought enough of you to give name you his city manager. Mayor Todd should think about changing his name to Mayor Judas.

.

Hey, you hardcore Democrats, how do you like the Republicans now?

.

I read in The Mountain Eagle about the election results that District One includes Isom, Colson, Baker and Neon. I believe that Colson is in District Two, I think.

(The report to which you are referring described District One as it pertains to the Letcher County School District. School districts are divided differently than the Letcher magisterial districts.)

.

Well, thank God the election is over with. I don’t have to listen to any more candidates.

.

I would like to compliment Bonnie Ingram on her lovely, old story. There aren’t any memories better than old memories.

.

I guess the people of Whitesburg have spoken. Instead of getting 70 percent of the vote, Mr. Griffith got 15 percent and Mr. Narramore got 32 percent, instead of the 22 percent predicted in Griffith’s ad that ran in The Mountain Eagle on October 22. Mayor Craft received 53 percent as the winner of the mayor’s race, instead of the predicted seven percent by Griffith. I guess Mr. Griffith polled the wrong people.

.

To the Whitesburg High School band director who lost the race for mayor: Now, maybe you feel as bad as those kids did when they got an F in band.

.

Don’t hire a certain handyman service. They don’t finish their work.

.

This is to a special cousin in Texas: We really miss and love you. Please call some time.

.

To the old cat killer: Why don’t you take a trip to Indian Creek and see if you find any cats over this way. You might find something that you don’t want. You might get killed yourself if you come to Indian Creek. I advise that you stay away.

.

At least the good people of Jenkins didn’t fall for the snake oil that Joe DePriest tried to sell them. How he thought the Jenkins voters would fall for his record of doing zilch as Letcher County’s economic development director is beyond me.

.

I’m glad Woody Holbrook got elected as magistrate because I know that he will help people. He helps people at his gas station. I know that he will do the best he can to help anybody and everybody that he can while in office.

.

This goes out to whoever it is that thinks it is a good idea to have silver poinsettias at our Christmas party and fake trees on the tables: It’s a load of crap in my opinion. You know who you are. Get the right stuff for our Christmas party so we can enjoy it. This is the forge phantom.

.

The reason why there are so many accidents at Pine Mountain Junction is the light system there. It only gives one or two cars time to get through before the light changes again. Something needs to be done about that light.

.

To a certain person: You are my sugarplum of an angel and I love you.

.

To Renee Campbell: I am sorry you lost, but you sure gave Marty Baker a good race. If a few more had voted for you, you would have won. In my book you are still my coroner. From H.A.

.

To a certain woman: I sure hope you had a good time in Las Vegas, because your man in now celebrating with me. Ha! Ha!

.

It’s funny how some people think they have the advantage over others through other people when in fact their bluff was called and they don’t even know it.

.

I want to thank all veterans for their service. From Retired Master Sergeant Everett Vanover.

.

Are there any honest, hardworking, God-fearing Christian lawyers out there who would think about running for judge( s) in Letcher County? If the men whose pictures hang on the courtroom walls could see and hear how things are handled in that room today they would roll over in their graves. Total disregard for those waiting for court procedures is only part of the problem. Let’s fight and pray for a return to the way court was once when we had God-fearing men in the courthouse. Enough said.
