I just called the offices of the Lexington Herald- Leader to complain about the poor delivery of my newspaper and to ask for a refund. Much to my surprise, the woman who answered told me they have no record of the paper being delivered to my home even though I have been paying a paper bill for more than 20 years. When I told the woman the name of the person I have been paying, she told me that I should never pay anyone except for the newspaper itself. The Herald-Leader could be selling a lot more papers if they sent someone up here to find out what is going on. Why do we sometimes get three papers on one day, usually in the evening, and why do we get Sunday’s paper on Monday, if at all?

.

My name is Ariel Campbell. I go to Jenkins Elementary and I am in the fifth grade. When the honor roll was printed in last week’s Mountain Eagle my name was somehow overlooked. I worked very hard and made straight A’s. My name deserves to be printed, too.

.

To the red turkey in Jenkins: Be careful how you judge others when you are doing far worse than they are. You just hide yours a little better. Everybody knows. They aren’t stupid.

.

Anyone who needs to have their taxes done this year needs to stay clear of a certain man’s tax service, because they are the type to take your money and not get you any money back.

.

This is a young man calling from Pratt Branch to a young man who just recently broke up with his girlfriend: Nobody condemns anybody. A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do. We wish you the best.

.

I have another Speak Your Piece about Brian Damron. I know his indictment is coming up, but they need to talk to the FBI so they can keep pushing this. We don’t need him back with a badge. We need to push it to make sure he gets out of there.

.

I saw two beautiful black cats lying in the road at Payne Gap where somebody had set them out. This is the old cat killer saying shame on you cat lovers. You all have a great big meow day.

.

The Super Bowl exploited children. They say the ballgame is for the children. How do we explain the bag of pills they had on that commercial? Children watch ballgames too. To me, I think that was a disgrace for all children to watch. They don’t like to see a scumbag standing in public without clothing on. To me they should have more respect for the young generation. How are we supposed to teach them anything?

.

To the young man on Payne Gap who stole my Weed Eater, air compressor and chainsaw: It’s not that bad. I’ve done worse than you have done. Come on by and give me a hug. We’ll let it go this time. I love you a bunch.

.

I’m a first time caller to Speak Your Piece. Some time back I heard the Attorney General of the United States make a statement in which he said we have become a nation of cowards. I don’t believe for one second that Americans are cowards. He should have said we have an administration that are cowards.

.

To a certain person: I love you just as much yesterday and I will love you just as much tomorrow as I did the day before. I love you. Happy Valentine’s Day.

.

This is to the Letcher County Board of Education: If the weather is too bad for school, why on earth do the kids still have to go to ball practice?

.

To a certain person: Nobody is drinking and nobody is picking on you. It’s all about you. Worry about your own self.

.

I don’t know about drinking or drugging at the Hemphill Community Center. When you leave there you have to drive home. If you drive home and fail a drug test, they put you in jail. I don’t think there is any drinking or drugging people. Most of the people who go to the Hemphill Community Center have good sense.

.

Kudos to Jenkins Mayor Todd Depriest. Only six weeks into his administration he is exhibiting the kind of leadership we citizens need. He has made good administrative decisions on critical issues and just as importantly he has engaged the city council, staff and city attorney to help him create a transparent and fiscally responsible government. What a radical departure from the monarchy of the previous administration. Also, I would like to give a belated ‘thank you’ to councilman Rick Damron for having the guts to confront former Mayor Kincer about his poor handling of city funds. That act came late in Kincer’s administration, but still early enough to expose the mayor for his ineptitude and help bring about his defeat in the November election. I can’t help but think that the other council members are now thinking, ‘Why didn’t we as a group see and address that problem earlier in the administration?’ That is history and that is a lesson well learned. Now let’s go forward as a more astute group and rebuild our city’s reputation. You would all do well to copy some of the programs enacted during the Charles Dixon administration. He had people standing in line to volunteer to serve on various committees to make the city better.

.

Someone commented in Speak Your Piece that Christians couldn’t be trusted. That isn’t the way it is. If you uphold your children for doing wrong, you are doing wrong, too. You better get to the altar and pray for a while.

.

The theft and sale of weapons from the sheriff ’s department is appalling, and the surrounding odor is even worse. This man had a position of great trust, and lots of access to other valuable things. It’s hard to believe that this is an isolated incident’ and it cries out for an intensive investigation and audit.

.

To a certain woman in the Mayking area: Are you too ignorant to realize what your husband is doing behind your back? He is finding other ways and time to fool with a little redhead. I understand why. She 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds. She has a big chest and a small waist. You are about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weigh 165 pounds. You’ve had two children. I’ve heard some pretty big tales on you. You need to open your eyes and look for a blue car.

.

I was in Pine Creek the other day and I actually thought I was lost. That place should be called Little Detroit. It is so easy to get things there. You’ve got prostitutes and drugs out the yin yang. It’s crazy. They need to set some roadblocks on Pine Creek. Do police not ever go to Pine Creek?

.

According to the hue and cry from the county, and the newspaper account, this second highest officer on the force had been abusing the community and his office for some time. He apparently had huge arrogance and a feeling of immunity. The whole situation triggers a lot more questions than answers, and makes one wonder how many times similar acts have occurred, and why anything wasn’t done about it before now.

.

Never look down on people who are older than you. God has blessed them to be that age. Never look down on someone because you are jealous of his or her clothing. You may not live to be that age.

.

I recently attended a funeral with a closed coffin, and that really bothered me because I knew the person. I don’t know why people would request that.

(Have you thought that maybe the deceased made the request before his or her death that the casket not be open for public viewing.)

.

I’d like to have the job as the Letcher County dog warden. I don’t smoke, drink or do drugs so I’d say they won’t let me have it.

.

I think it’s a shame that a woman in a white car can go over to Jenkins, steal homeless children’s gifts and only be arrested for 30 minutes. I think it is a shame that the Letcher County system is not doing their jobs. I ask the people to stand behind me and do something about this. That woman needs to be prosecuted.

.

The radioman can say whatever he wants on his Facebook page. I clearly heard him saying bad things about our Knott County basketball players the other day during the broadcast.

(Words — spoken and written — are often misconstrued. From our perspective, the Whitesburg radio station’s play-by-play man and his color commentator do very well in jobs that can be thankless.)

.

Apparently the Hazard television station doesn’t think it is a big enough news item to do anything about it or even come and check on it, but there is an accident near the Cowan school. There has to be somebody hurt before it is big enough for the station to come out and check on it.

.

If I let off gas in front of my neighbor, it is a terrible thing to do. If he goes and smokes and smokes me out with his fire, that’s okay. It’s kind of like pollution. Pollution is okay if somebody makes a dollar off of it.

.

There has been a hit on my mental health. I don’t just say that being ridiculous, I say it trying to get someone to take me serious. Please have it put in Speak Your Piece that the mob is in Letcher County. I live in Welch Hollow in Neon and I am a target.

.

Two Jenkins city councilmen blame President Obama for the town being $500,000 over budget for the 2014 year. What a joke. Rick Damron and Kyle Walker, why don’t you all be professional? A councilman’s job is to be in control of city finances. We have one new councilman. He is not to be blame. The returning council members are to be blamed. I don’t know how Jenkins has gotten in this shape.

.

If the accusations against Deputy Sheriff Brian Damron are true, how was he getting by with stealing guns, messing with evidence, shoving citizens up against the wall and threatening to bash people’s heads in?

.

I would just like to know when they started allowing dogs into a certain physical therapy business.

.

I think it is neat that my local library carries The Mountain Eagle. The articles are okay. What I really read is Speak Your Piece. It’s the one voice of the people.

.

To whoever sent the pictures to my sister: Thanks for your concern. My sister and I already knew about the pictures. What you don’t know is that I have done him wrong and he has done me wrong. We’re not proud of it. We are working on our relationship and have forgiven each other. Please do not send any other pictures to any other family members of mine. Please don’t. They don’t need to be in this mess. We are working it out and by the grace of God we’ll be fine. Thanks for your concern.

.

The sheriff ’s principal deputy has been charged with theft and there are complaints from all over that he has abused people. The Whitesburg Police Chief was caught for a DUI, so drunk that he was asleep, and the Dog Warden has joined in. The State Senator from Hazard has been charged with DUI, and two Perry Central High School coaches have resigned or been fired for similar charges. Where are we going and is there any supervision or oversight at any level any more? This doesn’t do much for trust in government.

.

County Judge, health department and the sheriff ’s office: At King Road on the railroad track is trash. Maybe drugs hidey-hole in the wall. This trash blows on my land. Get up here and clean up this trash dump. Let’s see if I can get someone to do the job. Get up to Cromona at King Road and my land.

.

Thank God the refs were paid off Saturday. Otherwise UK wouldn’t be undefeated anymore.

.

So Brian Damron allegedly took a few guns and sold them. To me, that was a small price to pay for all the good he has done for our county. At least Deputy Damron had the guts to get out and stand up to the filth of this county and put their butts in jail for doing dope. If we paid a decent salary to the good police officers like Brian they wouldn’t have to sell guns to make a living. Many communities in Letcher County will soon be wishing we had Brian Damron back on the job.

.

Poor little Hemphill, it looks like I struck a nerve. To whoever said the ladies all act like ladies: Ha, you must be the one who’s bumping and grinding on your hubby and other men. You know who you are, and your so-called friends should be watching their husbands because they’ll be next. This isn’t who you think it is. I don’t have a wife nor did I ever get smacked. Yes, I agree the bands are good, but the ladies don’t all act like ladies. Most yes, but not all. And to the person at The Eagle who asked how you could vulgar dance to bluegrass: Trust me, they make it look easy. To the person telling me to stay at home: I’m laughing at all of you. This has nothing to do with him. This is all me. I love how you all feel so guilty you’re pointing fingers at an innocent man (Elvis). All of your screaming, hollering, vulgarity, and whatever else you do or say you can’t run everybody off like you think just because you’re buddies with the person running the center on Fridays. Have a nice day.

.

I am very distraught by the lesson I learned at H&R Block in Whitesburg today. I normally use the regular form, which should have been used again this year. Instead, they used a different form and asked me if I pay for my taxes through my refund. My answer was yes. However, I was never informed about the charges for their services. I’ve had them done in the past by other H&R Block, even a CPA, and was never charged $395. It would have been different if the preparer had lots of papers to go through. I called back because I was never informed about my fees. She said sign here and here and printed me out a copy. Thankfully, I looked and I called back to ask about the fee and was told, ‘Well, that is the price you will pay here.’ It was outrageous and very rude. I have also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

.

Happy birthday to my favorite aunt, Mary. Love, Sue.

.

In his recent speech in Detroit, Jeb Bush said he loved his brother — the brother who put 4,900 of our precious children in their brutal early graves over imaginary weapons of mass destruction. Jeb Bush loves a war criminal. That’s all I need to know about him.

.

Brian Damron has always been a disgrace to any police agency he has worked for because of his blatant abuse of his authority and the harassment of those he was entrusted to ‘serve and protect.’ While employed as a Jenkins Police Officer, Damron targeted and then harassed me personally on numerous occasions — so much so, in fact, that I had to eventually threaten him with a lawsuit to convince him to cease. Countless numbers of Letcher County’s citizenry have horror stories about their encounters with Brian Damron. I was surprised when the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department hired him given the endless controversies that have been connected to him, including the questionable fatal shooting of a Jenkins resident. I knew it was only a matter of time until something untoward concerning him would be exposed. Now that such has allegedly happened, the citizens of Letcher County should expect and demand that he be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and not given any preferential treatment. That means no leniency, no plea bargains, or anything else that would help Damron escape the very same justice system that he placed others before while he himself betrayed and abused it.

.

There is nothing worse or more unfair than a criminal that hides behind a law enforcement badge and gun and pretends to be dispensing justice while setting hypocritical double standards because of their own utter lack of ethics, integrity, and morality. The allegations against Brian Damron are a shameful black eye upon all officers of the law, especially at a time in our society where distrust of police is increasing. This case is a clear example as to why closer of scrutiny and vetting of potential police applicants is sorely needed. The extra scrutiny is needed because everyone suffers when an antagonistic, dishonorable charlatan like Brian Damron is empowered with authority that shields his very own illegal actions.

.

So the new Jenkins mayor stiffs the city with a bounced check and hires back a former employee that was fired for failing his drug test. You’re off to a great start, Depriest.
