After downloading and doing a quick review of the Bureau of Prisons’ Environmental Impact Statement report it’s clear there are areas that need further review and explaining For example, there is no explanation why the Payne Gap site requires more acreage than the Roxana site and why the 12 gas wells/pipes on the Roxana site don’t present a larger impact to that infrastructure than the one gas well on the Payne Gap site. The financial portion shows there is much greater expenditure required in developing the Payne Gap site than the Roxana site, and as such the preference would be in favor of the Roxana site since both sites would provide the same end result. The report also favors the police, fire protection and medical facilities offered by the Roxana site. If Jenkins citizens and city government are serious about pursuing having the prison built at the Payne Gap site then an effort to challenge the accuracy of certain details of the report should be a priority. As the report currently stands, the preference is strongly tilted in favor of the Roxana site.

I would like to thank the pastors and members at the New Beginning Church in Jenkins for serving the community and surrounding areas on such a blistering cold day. They provided anyone that came in with hot homemade soup and sandwiches. It is such a blessing to see people doing for others and expect nothing in return. Everyone there had a smile on his or her face and you could see they truly enjoyed what they were doing. I am a witness to their ministry and the love they share so freely. May God hand down mighty rewards to this church and cause a heavenly filled revival in the hearts and souls they come in contact with.

Some people amaze me. Here is an old man calling himself sexy while blowing on his harmonica wanting folks to think someone is giving him a compliment. It is so sad to know that he has to brag on himself because no one else will. Could this be the same man who with his wife caused all the problems at the Hemphill Community Center? Or was this Elvis? Inquiring minds would like to know.

.

To our county officials and court system: Know that Letcher County citizens know you and they know Brian Damron and they are watching over this case. You are in a fishbowl.

.

My hat is off to those part-time drivers who get out in the bitter cold and brave the dangerously slick roads to help the regular state employees keep clear off the snow and ice. These part-timers probably don’t make a whole lot of money for the dangerous job they do, but I’m glad they’re here. They do a great service for the people.

.

Looks like a certain lady is working night shift at a certain funeral home. She sure does spend a lot of late nights there.

.

I heard on the radio where the county judge was bragging about the county workers plowing the roads and how hard they work. I passed one and he used the snowplow to clear his driveway.

.

To a certain person: I really do love you. Don’t listen to what other people say, because when you do they could ruin the best thing that ever happened to you. Call me, please.

.

Thank you, road crews, for all your hard work and dedication in trying to keep the roads clear and safe for all the ones who have to work in Letcher County and surrounding areas. Thank you and may the Lord bless you.

She thinks she lives in a neat, little tidy dollhouse. For once she moved up a few notches. She made him look like a pure fool for four or five years. It took her two or three years to get wound up really good. Now, she is making the one she had look like a pure fool. She is playing the one she’s got and he looks like a bitter fool. And they all still fall for the words that come out of our mouths. Seems like she has a nice triangle going on. I hate to tell you that every dog has its day and the cards will fall and will hit like a cement block. If I were you, I wouldn’t get myself too comfortable. To beat it all everyone likes you. You are a likeable person. I hate to tell you that you can only play games for so long. Yours isn’t a Jack and Jill fairytale sister. You are in the real world with real people. And you have plenty of neighbors. I guess it will be ring around the roses for a while, but you are getting ready to get a pocketful of people. Everybody isn’t stupid and everybody isn’t going to play your game. They will until they figure it out. Every mouse gets caught.

.

The new District Three magistrate is worse than Codell Gibson ever thought of being. He has taken right up with the judge. I didn’t vote for him and I don’t want his help.

.

Did you call that woman you took to Tennessee for Valentine’s Day a rose? Then the bride of Frankenstein must be the yellow rose of Texas.

.

When Mr. Brian Damron goes through the golden gates down the big road, let him squirm.

.

How come you cat lovers didn’t have an answer to the cat killer’s comment about the beautiful black cats that got run over at Payne Gap? To the fellow on Indian Creek who wants me to come over so he can whoop me: Well you probably could. Let me know where you live on Indian Creek and I’ll catch you about 100 cats and turn them loose on you to see how you like it. This is the old cat killer telling you to have a great big meow day.

I hope that the Jenkins School Board who is in charge of hiring coaches for next year’s high schools sports makes the right choices for the students and the school’s reputation. Don’t just hire someone because no one else applied for the job. The board approved new uniforms this fall for the cheerleaders and the team supposedly had the money to get them. They are still wearing uniforms that don’t match and dirty shoes that were worn last year. They cheer at some of the home basketball games, but they never miss a football game, home or away. Changes need to be made in a couple of other sports, too. Do what is right for the kids and school. It’s your job to be involved and to know what is going on.

.

In my opinion, Sam Wright should not be a judge at any level. Just my opinion, but an indicator of its validity will be how he manages this campaign for Supreme Court Justice. Will he do the honorable thing and resign as Letcher Circuit Judge, as Will Scott did in resigning his Supreme Court position to run for governor, or will he try to have his cake and eat it too? Another indicator of the quality of the entire Letcher County judicial system will be how the people who make up the system manage the Brian Damron charges. We’ll see.

We’ve had winter weather as long as I’ve been alive and I’ve been alive along enough that I could retire. We used to just accept winter weather. People now aren’t prepared for it. Outside of WMMT-FM, other stations hype the weather. They get people to tune in to find out what is going to happen and what has happened. It doesn’t matter to us old folks, because we can sit home. Now, we live in an impulse society that says we’ve got to go, go, go. Heaven forbid we would have to stay home for a day with our families and find things to do at home and relax. I respect the WMMT volunteers who come into the studio on bad weather days and provide a source of distraction for those of us who don’t want to hear weather updates every five minutes.

.

Thank God for West Virginia. Otherwise Kentucky would be 50th rather than 49th in the latest Index of Well Being by States. Come on, Mitch, Rand, and Hal, we can make it to 50th by next time. Keep up the great work.

.

My mother was a woman. My sisters were women. My wife was a woman. My doctor is a woman. My dentist is a woman. If I ever get married again, it will be to a woman. When you want it done right, you got to have a woman to do it right. I love them.

.

I’m just wondering how many mailboxes got torn up by the snowplows.

.

I just hope Brian Damron has the guts to apologize for being the biggest fraud there ever was in this county.

.

A true Christian doesn’t talk about other Christians. Judge not lest you be judged.

.

With the way our politicians are doing and the way people are stealing from each other, how does anyone expect to bring children up right? Even television is getting so bad you can’t watch it. I hope you all will change before it is too late.

.

The U.S. Mail is supposed to be delivered through rain, sleet and snow. Apparently, that does not apply to the woman who hauls the mail to Jeremiah. She takes days off even though she has a four-wheel drive vehicle. She rips up your mail. Half the time you get it, it’s either open or misplaced. We need a new mail carrier.

.

We really appreciate the state and the county workers for plowing our roads and keeping them as clear as they could. They have done a wonderful job. As they go by they pile up the snow at the end of driveways and we can’t get out. The snow is up to four feet in places. Is there anything that can be done? Maybe swerve in at the mouth of our driveways as you go by and hit it a little bit. Anything would be appreciated. Thank you for everything you have done so far.

I am trying to get people who have been denied for black lung benefits to come together for a meeting to be announced at a later date for a discussion on why everyone who applies has been denied. I need for people to respond if they will be interested in attending.
