Why clear the roads if in doing so you block people’s driveways?

.

I saw a woman carrying a baby with shorts on the other day. It’s wintertime.

.

If you are driving up and down the road on Camp Branch, you need to be careful and watch out for drivers on the wrong side of the road. There’s really nothing wrong with them. They are just dodging potholes.

.

Whatever happened to that program that we heard about a year or so ago that when they had snow days that students could get on the Internet, still do their lessons and get counted for being in school? I’d like to know more about this.

.

This is the old cat killer. I had two cops come to my house the other day. They were the most respectable, kindest human beings that you would ever want to know. I appreciate you so much for the kind people that you are. Keep up the good work.

.

I just wanted to compliment the Lexington Herald- Leader delivery person in the Fleming community for his lack of service. Obviously this snow has kept him in and the people haven’t gotten a paper in two weeks.

.

I’m just calling about the police officers in New York. The mayor seems to be giving them a hard time for some reason. I have been to New York several times and I think they are some of the most friendly and helpful people that I have ever been around in the police force. They are very friendly and always willing to help. They are what they say they are — New York’s finest. They don’t seem to act like they are above everybody else.

.

I know that the county department and the city employees are working very hard to get the roads cleared and we all appreciate that. We appreciate the water that they have given us. I’m calling to see if someone could scrape the parking lot at Mountain Pride. What is the reason why Susie Polis was elected mayor again?

( The City of Fleming- Neon doesn’t own the apartment complex at Goose Creek. If the city workers removed snow from the parking lot there they would be working on private property.)

.

Citizens of Letcher County, please think about the people who risk their lives during winter storms to get on the road to make sure you have everything you need.

.

I am sick of this winter weather; it’s driving me crazy. I sit here in the house all day and flip channels on the television and read everything I can get my hands on, even sale papers and catalogues. I have become very grumpy and cynical and look for something to criticize. Take the word ‘toward’ for example. I am so sick of hearing people misspell and mispronounce that word. It is not spelled towards and it is not pronounced ‘ twoard’. Even the so-called professionals in radio, television and newspapers are guilty. It is ‘ toward’, pronounced ’tord’ with a silent ‘w’. Don’t get me started on ‘busted’ water pipes. Water pipes freeze and ‘burst’; Dolly Parton is ‘busted’. Thank you for allowing me to vent my frustration. I feel better now.

.

It’s fine and dandy to clear the highways, but why on earth do you have to block people’s driveways? You could do better. I bet you that if it were Jim Ward’s driveway they would be able to unblock it.

.

I want to tell the officials in the City of Fleming-Neon that the next time their garbage man comes up and harasses me and mine that I will see them in court and they will pay for everything.

.

Jimmy Vance on Bill Moore Branch, what a man. I wish all of my neighbors were just like him, including me. He does lots of good things and I think we all owe him thanks.

Do you still believe the lying Democrat in the White House that lies about global warming? There is no global warming, and anyone that says there is, is a liar. That includes the Democrats and the Republicans. We the American people need to burn more coal. We don’t need to be paying these ridiculous electric bills. People have always burned coal. Back in the 1800s every picture you see in winter has coal or wood smoke rolling out of the chimney. Now the only difference is the electric company burns the coal and turns it into electricity to heat homes. Let’s go back and heat our homes with coal and stop listening to the heathen politicians. Burn more coal. Global warming is a lie. Read Genesis, 8:22. I believe what God says, not lying politicians. Jesus will soon return.

.

I wanted to say happy birthday to my little niece, who turned seven on February 27. I can’t believe you’re seven. Sending our love to you, Jaz. From Auntie.

.

If Sam Wright has any respect for his position, he will resign from it while running for the Supreme Court. No official can do a decent job in one office while campaigning for another. The citizens of Letcher County have a right to expect the Letcher Circuit Court to have his undivided attention.

The logic that Roxana is a more desirable site than Payne Gap for the prison has more holes than Swiss cheese. First, there’s not five minutes difference from Payne Gap to Whitesburg ARH. Second, the person making the argument last week has apparently never been in a federal prison. There is very little need, if any, for local police involvement. The biggest factor should be the distance to a main highway artery. The Payne Gap site is but five minutes from U.S. 23. In the long run and over time, this is a significant reason the prison should be built in Payne Gap. Access to this highway will be a daily advantage for the Payne Gap site, whereas Roxana is at best 45 minutes away. It’s a no brainier if politics can be kept out of the decision.

In care of The Mountain Eagle: Dear Jesus, Crying out from the innermost depths of my spirit, I long to hear from you! Alas, my words, they are as dust caught in a spiraling windstorm, thrust ever downward, and returned to sender. I need to know … when my best, just isn’t enough, when peace and joy have taken flight, and in their absence, loneliness and sorrow are swiftly ushered in on the wings of despair, when I have done all that I know to do, said all that I know to say, stood as long as I can stand, and given until I don’t have anything left to give, what then? Sincerely, Broken.
