EDITOR’S NOTE: A comment submitted by telephone for this week’s edition of Speak Your Piece was omitted because it contained personal criticism of a candidate for the office of 94th District State Representative. Serious comments about the seven candidates and why you are supporting them or opposing them are welcome. However, these comments should not be based on personal attacks.

The double drive-thru at McDonald’s may help the McDonald’s employees, but it has taught me a lesson about folks in Whitesburg and the surrounding areas. They don’t like to take turns. If you get in the inside lane it’s a real problem getting to the drive-thru window. Take turns, folks. Be nice.

. I think a liberal or a conservative Supreme Court is the most stupid thing the United States ever had to put up with.

. To a certain person: You think your neighbors don’t know what you are doing, but you are wrong. You put down everyone else for doing the same thing you are doing. The funny thing is you are doing it in front of your grandkids. Even when you think they don’t see, they know. People don’t have one-minute visitors. That’s called being a hypocrite.

. The typical U.S. Household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35. They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are ‘baby boomers’ getting ready to retire. Others have been retired for some time. We worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God and have grown old together. In school we studied English, history, math, and science, which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party lines, 25- cent gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes. A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. We won World War II, fought in Korea and Vietnam. We can quote The Pledge of Allegiance and know where to place our hand while doing so. We know the words to the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama. You fell for the ‘Hope and Change,’ which in reality was nothing but ‘Hype and Lies.’ With all the education we gave you, you didn’t have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the

Kool-Aid. Well, don’t worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Brigade is here and in 2016 we are going to take back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like but we get where we’re going, and in 2016 we’re going to the polls by the millions. This land does not belong to the man in the White House or to the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. It belongs to ‘We the People’ and we plan to reclaim our land and our freedom.

. I just read where county officials blasted Kentucky Power. This is a routine political play — attack someone else to get the attention off of you. You officials are still putting it to seniors, even their food, and the rest of us by paying yourselves unnecessary fees. You don’t deserve what you’re paid to begin with, with the exception of Fleming and maybe one more. Most of you are intellectually incompetent without much ability to think and make decisions. This is what people get when they vote for good old boys, which is exactly what they deserve.

. Looks like South Carolina was the last nail in the coffin for the political influence of the Bush crime family. Obviously even some Republicans don’t love their wars and recessions as much as they used to. Personally I think it was a mistake for Jeb! (don’t think about his last name) to recruit the help of the guy who let airliners fly into major buildings.

. Most of us belong to the political party we choose because it is the party that our parents, in particular our fathers, belonged to. I encourage all voters to look beyond party membership and vote for the candidate who has the political experience, ethical convictions and leadership connections to effectively perform the duties we elect them for. This applies to all political races, but as far as the presidential candidates go, there is one candidate who is light years ahead of the others as far as being qualified to lead our country. And if she were a man, the very things that she is being criticized for now would be points in her favor.

. Other than Donald Trump’s stands on the torture of waterboarding and immigration, it is quite funny to see him turning so many Republicans into Blue Dog Democrats. Improving Obamacare with a single-payer health plan that will cover all? Trump is for it. Planned Parenthood? Trump supports it; says they do some ‘good things.’ Gay marriage? Trump supports that, too. Trump is showing us that about 40 percent of the members of the Republican Party are not as conservative as people had believed. Once Trump wins the Republican nomination,

he will also attract a large number of Democrats to his campaign as well. It’s going to make for an interesting November. At first I was opposed to him, but now I’m ready to let him be president for four years and turn this country and the Republican Party inside out. It would be two major cleanings that have been needed for some time.

. I find it strange that someone who calls himself a cat killer would have the audacity to call another person ‘trash.’ Okay, you can have Donald Trump, who is now on what — his third or fourth wife? In case you don’t know, a Trump presidency would give us our only First Lady who has posed nude in a men’s magazine among other places. I feel sorry for you.

. At first I was amazed that Trump was leading the GOP candidates until I realized that this doesn’t mean that Trump is a strong leader. It just means that he is the best-known personality in what is actually one of the weakest fields of GOP candidates in my lifetime. There are no Ronald Reagans in this field. Trump’s bestknown line is, “You’re fired.” I believe his supporters are wishing he had the power to say that to Congress.

. Last Wednesday evening my wife and I were listening to Wiley Q. read Speak Your Pieces on WMMT. Suddenly she said did you hear that? I said hear what. She asked if I were asleep. I refused to answer and asked her if she was giving me a pop quiz. Apparently Wiley had said something about me on the radio and I slept through it. Now I have to go to the library to find out what happened.

. To the idiot that read one page in a Civil War magazine and knows the history of the flag and all of us bigots: I can be a big bigot when I need to be and I assume you are referring to Africans as most of them do 150 years later. It is the history of what the flag represents, and the bigots and idiots are the one who want to change that history but cannot even read their own history for whatever reason. Did you by any chance read the newspaper and the reporter’s work in the Lexington Herald-Leader’s July 6, 2015 edition? It was a pretty much unbiased and fair report concerning the area. The War Between the States was not started because of Africans; it was about Lincoln and holding the bossy Union together after the South had enough of their many rules and taxes. This would have been sort of like the Union as master and the South as slave, politically. You probably do not know the difference between the first meaning of Republican and Democrat either or where it came from in the stupidity of both. What you need to do if this flag bothers you is loot your own community and burn it down like some still do, mostly in the North. What would be better is for you to go through Letcher County and start taking the flags down. Mine would be your last take down. There are people here with great grandfathers and other relatives who fought and died under that flag.

. The most painful tears are not the ones that fall from your eyes and cover your cheeks, but rather those that fall from your heart and cover your soul. Sometimes burning bridges isn’t a bad thing. Sometimes it prevents you from going to back to a place that you should have never been.

. Last February, my sister had an $800 electric bill. By the time they get through with us they are adding $10 to $20 dollars on these bills. It is not right.

. I think someone should look into putting in a zipline park. We have a beautiful mountain.

Dear Speak Your Piece: I’m sorry. I was wrong. I thought hemp had gone legal. It seems our communist state government is only letting people who live in the Bluegrass grow hemp. If you try and grow hemp, they’ll turn their state police loose on you. If you are from the mountains, they’ll send double the state police on you. Our new governor is a foreigner who doesn’t understand Kentucky. He is from Connecticut. He thinks hemp is a drug. He is either an idiot or has been brainwashed by the state police.

. Mitch McConnell has been back in office for over a year now. Here is what he has done for the out-ofwork coal miners of eastern Kentucky. He has voted against their black lung and pension benefits. Way to go, Mitch. You are a true Republican.

. Matt Bevin is going to return millions of dollars back to the federal government. This is going to take medical care away from many people who will probably die without it.

. This is to AEP: If everything keeps going up, how are we going to pay our bills?

. I just got back from Lexington. I went north on Interstate 75 going down there and south on I-75 coming back. I can’t get over what highways they’ve got down there built out of our coal severance money. On the way back home it snowed so hard that you couldn’t see, but they’ve got these big old trucks. They have things on the front of them like dozer blades and those blades grade the snow to the side. They have beds on them full of salt and sprinkle all over so if snow falls behind them the snow will just melt off. I wish we had something like that around here. With all the coal severance money, we should have more than they have. I just don’t know.

. I am the only one who has spotted a busted piece of waterline on the bypass going toward Whitesburg. Has anyone looked on the inside of that line to see how filthy it is? I have seen septic tank lines cleaner than that. Let’s see how long it takes the City of Whitesburg water department to run up here. I will report back when I notice it is gone. This is why so many people are sick.

. I don’t know why the fiscal court is upset with our electric bills because they are the ones that help make it high. They were only supposed to put $2 or $3 in added taxes on our electric bill. My electric bill has $80 worth of taxes on it. There’s no sense in this. You county officials need to get something done for this county. There is no way people can pay electric bills like that. If there is a way, then I want to know, because we can’t get any help. It is taking everything we’ve got to pay electric bills.

. What person in their right mind would want a prison built in their backyard? It is rumored that there are approximately 2.3 million people locked up now. Out of that 2.3 million prisoners, as many as 10 percent or 237 could be innocent. Another 700,000 have mental disorders. Stop and think. Would a prison being built benefit you? It would be better to built a VA hospital that would help lots of people at less a cost and would employ doctors, nurses and dentists.

. Does anyone have any old high school pictures of Jenkins? We’d like to see some of ours in The Mountain Eagle. (Great idea. All it would take to honor your request is for someone to get the photos and information to us)

. Since World War II, August 1945, we have only had four Republican governors counting Matt Bevin. Why?

. I would like for the manager of 103.9 to verify or

clear something up. Did he stop playing Paul Morris’s shows? If so, I’d like to know why.

. My name is Drugs. I destroy homes, tear families apart, take your children, and that’s just the start. I’m more costly than diamonds, more costly than gold, the sorrow I bring is a sight to behold. If you need me, remember I’m easily found. I live all around you, in schools and in town. I live with the rich, I live with the poor, I live down the street, and maybe next door. My power is awesome. Try me and you’ll see, but if you do you may never break free. Just try me once and I might let you go, but try me twice and I’ll own your soul. When I possess you, you’ll steal and you’ll lie. You do what you have to just to get high. The crimes you’ll commit for my narcotic charms will be worth the pleasure you’ll feel in your arms. You’ll lie to your mother; you’ll steal from your dad; and when you see their tears, you should feel sad. But you’ll forget your morals and how you were raised. I’ll be your conscience, I’ll teach you my ways. I take kids from parents and parents from kids. I turn people from God and separate friends. I’ll take everything from you, your looks and your pride. You’ll give up everything — your family, your home, your friends, and your money. I’ll take and take until you have nothing more to give; when I’m finished with you you’ll be lucky to live. Author unkown.

. I thought the price of groceries and everything else went up because they said the price of fuel went up. The price of fuel has been down for quite a while and I haven’t seen the prices of groceries coming down. I haven’t seen prices come down except for fuel.

. Mr. Microphone, you did it again. Can’t you keep Ted Cruz’s name off of your lips? I have heard there is a fine line between hate and love. Talking about love, why don’t you tell us who you do like? Is it the old man who can’t pronounce the word America? Spend, spend, spend. A free education for people might lead to a job with the government, as they are the biggest employer. Do we need more people working? Oops. I used the wrong word. I should have said wasting money. He must want to be president so bad that he will say anything. I know that he and the people who are for him are smart enough to see what is happening in some of the countries not too far from us.

. Thank you for retrieving your indoor/outdoor rug. If something of mine should ever blow over there, I wonder if you would be so kind to give me the same opportunity. Have a nice day.

. Are they still working out on Sandlick on a strip job or not? It is an eyesore for our community. There are many beautiful homes. I drive down Sandlick and look up there and see where they cut the mountain off. They’ve not put it back as far as I know. They aren’t even working up there unless they are going up there early to steal a couple loads of coal. If any inspectors are free, I hope you all go over there sometime and catch them stealing coal early in the morning and shutting the gates back by the time everybody gets up. Please let me know. Does anyone know any information

about this? This is a shame.

. Everybody vote for Donald Trump if you want to survive.

. Please can someone do something with Kentucky Power Company? I am a widow. My power bill is $494.43. How in this world do they think that we can pay this? Please help.

. I was in a certain store in Neon over the weekend about four or five times in one day. Every time I went in there everyone was sitting at a table not doing anything. Where can I fill out an application? I want a job where I can get a check for doing nothing.

. No one needs to be reminded about the financial condition of our country, state and certainly not our county. In the last weeks and months we have heard and read much about how broke our county is and how many existing services must be cut to meet a new budget. Most recently the county could absolutely not afford to take care of the recycling needed in Letcher County. Thanks to Mayor James Craft and the Whitesburg City Council, they have taken the initiative to move forward on saving this program for our citizens. Prior to that it was closing the Senior Centers, with a plan to bus those who are able to the recreation center. I would like to say here the plan in order now does not begin to cover the needs of the elderly in our area, especially the many who are not receiving the noon meals and have no assistance in meeting their own needs. This week the crisis came to a much more personal need, at least to our fiscal court members. In addition to a $22,479.76 base salary and a $3,941 allotment to attend 40 hours of training in Lexington, Louisville and Frankfort annually, three of the members of the Letcher County Fiscal Court found it necessary to reinstate an option of collecting $300 a month to cover their mileage expenses. I personally find this kind of greed appalling. And what I find even more appalling is that Judge Ward decided to abstain from this vote altogether. I’ve never really understood why anyone would abstain from a vote unless it would be a conflict of interest for the voters of Letcher County. It is time we call on our elected officials to be accountable, not to their own needs, but to the needs of those of us who put them in office.

. The United States of America has been destroyed by ungodly lawmakers. We the American people are sick of the stupidity and the foolishness of the politicians that we the people have voted for. It is time for the American people to stop listening to the lying, ungodly politicians. First of all the ungodly Democrats have degraded our nation with their ungodly laws of abortion and men lying with men. This stinks in the nostrils of Almighty God. The Republican Party is also in pitiful shape as they are yellow-backed cowards that have no backbone to stand against the stupidity and ungodliness that is going on in our nation. I ask this question: Is there one Republican that is a born again man of God who knows God and prays to God for direction? We don’t need Donald Trump with his ungodly language. We are trying to get a devil out of the White House, so we sure don’t need to put another one in.
