There is a new car dealership in Jenkins, located on Main Street at Cove Avenue. I counted seven vehicles, a trailer parked partly on the sidewalk, and some four-wheelers. I did not see any prices marked on these items. I wonder if the business license has been purchased from City Hall in Jenkins. Thank you.

.

Three politicians who the coal miners have always supported and voted for have said nothing about the Blackjewel miners’ dreadful situation. The three are Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul and Donald Trump. They have not said a word about these miners being illegally screwed out of a month’s pay on purpose by Blackjewel Mining. Mc- Connell, Paul and Trump are not on the miners’ side or they would have spoken out in support of the men who were screwed so horribly. If you care about coal miners, it’s time to support politicians who speak out in support of those miners, when those same coal miners are screwed. Remember who supports the coal operators and have done nothing to help the miners in November. Actions speak louder than words.

.

I wonder if the city council, mayor and city attorney notice all of the eyesores in Jenkins — junked cars, yards not mowed, and garbage. I thought the people elected to the city council were there for the betterment of the town. Are they afraid to speak? Are they afraid of the slumlords who own many of these properties? Speak up and do something about this problem.

.

Bring the UMWA back to Harlan County and run those yellow-dog scabs out of here.

.

Dear Speak Your Piece: I am not voting for Donald Trump this next time. I gave him money for his last election and he has given us nothing — definitely no coal. He also got rid of my pain doctor and got rid of my wife’s psychiatrist. The Democrats should have put him in jail.

.

Please remember what ‘Friends of Coal’ means. It means I support the coal operator. ‘Friends of Miners’ supports the coal miners. I have never been a ‘Friend of Coal,’ yet I always have been a ‘Friend of Miners.’ That is a huge difference that people need to learn.

.

Baltimore is infested with rats, horribly infested. The Democrat Party has been running these cities for years and there is only one thing that can clean them up, and that is the Republican Party. Put people in office who know what they are doing. The National Guard can go in and clean these places up and give these people access to toilets and things.

.

I want to wish my granddaughter, Alexis Jo Adams of Isom, a big happy birthday. It was on August 3. This is from her grandmother, Jackie.

.

It sure is strange how these old women dye hair and put on makeup just so they get some young punk or deadbeat daddy to hang around with them. These old women can home-wreck a marriage right quick. They are nothing but trash, and I know a few of them.

.

Hey, Blueboy, what’s been going on, brother? I haven’t seen you in a while. Somebody told me you got six months in the county jail for DUI. Is this true?

.

Every week, without fail, some Trump supporter is on here spewing a load of Republican horse manure about how much their Dear Fuhrer is doing for them, and how he should be free to do whatever he wants, being that he’s their Fearless Leader and all. They are either fools or liars, or both. Trump hasn’t done a thing for anyone except given right-wing white-supremacist homegrown terrorists permission to do what they’ve been trying to do for years. Another weekend, two more mass shootings that can be laid right at your Fuhrer’s feet.

.

In response to a comment in Speak Your Piece: Nobody is ‘investigating’ Hillary Clinton for ‘racism,’ because ‘deplorable’ has nothing to do with race. All ‘deplorable’ means is you’re the kind of utter trash that should no longer be tolerated in American society. Sounds to me like she described you well.

.

WMMT-FM has more repeat programming than any other station I know about. The young people appear to want to sit in the office instead of doing radio. There is a lot of dead air. Life changes and life goes on, but when you hear the same old story two or three times you get tired of it.

.

Could someone tell me when the throw down is going to happen between a former high-ranking Letcher County official and the present high-ranking official of a certain town? I hear it’s coming to a boiling point.

.

I just heard something on the news that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life. They are giving a 79-year-old lady 10 days in jail because she fed a stray cat. They said she violated an ordinance against feeding stray animals. Some of our citizens here in Letcher County, including the precious June Maggard, would have been sentenced to life without parole if that law was in effect around here. God love her heart, June Maggard fed every animal she ever came in contact with. Bless her heart.

( A judge in Garfield Heights, Ohio says she will take a new look at the sentence a magistrate there imposed recently on Nancy Segula. USA Today reports that Ms. Segula had been cited several times since 2015 for charges ranging from illegally feeding animals to failing to properly dispose of animal waste. At one point, 22 cats were removed from her home.)

.

Two mass shootings in one day, the second the 251st this year. I can almost see Vladimir Putin highfiving his buddies over their success in putting dolts in the Oval Office and as majority leader of the senate.

.

I was watching the news this weekend and a young coal miner that worked for Blackjewel was telling the reporter how he had voted for Donald Trump because Trump had promised to bring the coal industry back. I guess you could say, promise made, promise broken. Then he asked where Trump is now and wondered why he hasn’t come to help them. My feelings for him were pity mixed with contempt for his willful ignorance. He should know by now that Trump, Moscow Mitch McConnell, and all the other Republican politicians only care about miners when they can get a vote from them or use them as pawns. They have totally abandoned the miners just like they abandoned the factory workers in Ohio. But Trump will show up around election time with a hard hat and a slogan and the miners will fall right into line.

.

A new book claims Jesus was married with two kids. Upset Christians dismiss it because there’s no evidence. The irony.

.

Senator Paul wants to lower taxes on the bourbon industry soon after voting against helping the 9/11 first responders. Whatever happened to being against picking winners and losers? Or is he just creating more jobs for medical people and undertakers as the result of enabling more drunk drivers?

.

Beware of a certain man who does mechanic work for people at their home. You have to watch your tools and not let him into your house. He stole a gun from one person he was working for. The gun was reported stolen. This person took a truck home that someone was buying parts for and paying him to repair, and then the truck’s owner found that the mechanic was driving around in his vehicle without a driver’s license. He went to get the truck back and the man wouldn’t let him have it. Just a word to the wise.

.

To the people over the Pine Mountain Trail: Why is the trail blocked on the Virginia side, above the church? There is a gate across it with ‘no trespassing’ signs and a phone number.

.

Concerning the out-ofwork Blackjewel miners, why hasn’t American Electric Power or other power companies who serve them offered to give them a break on their power bills while the miners are trying to get back the money that was taken from their banks accounts?

.

To the person who left a blank message on my answering machine: It said nothing and I understood what it meant. So I would like to tell you my final goodbye. May God richly bless you and all your endeavors. I hope you have a great life. Bye.

.

I told my wife we were going grocery shopping tomorrow and she said we couldn’t afford it. She has me on a strict financial diet, because when you get old everything goes up but Social Security.

.

I’m calling in to explain when the races were created. The Bible says God worked six days. A day with God is one thousand years. The Bible also says God worked five thousand years to make the earth inhabitable for humans. On the sixth day He created the races, and He looked and it was good. After He rested on the seventh day He prepared land to be farmed and He created Adam and Eve, through which He was going to bring the Savior in His time. Some don’t realize it was over a thousand years before this race was brought into being. Consider how old some of the cultures are of the six-day races.

.

After an incident in a grocery store parking lot on a recent Sunday, a weasel charged a widowed lady $75 for putting a vehicle on his rollback and then taking it off. If I were him I couldn’t sleep at night. He was a smart-aleck, too.

.

When all those miners who lost their jobs recently were working and making all that big money, why didn’t they save some of that money back instead of going out and buying new trucks and motorcycles and boats and all that junk? Instead of spending every penny they made and living weekto week, they should have saved some. What is wrong with them? Did they think their job was going to last forever?

.

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.

.

The Democrat candidates for president are telling the American people right now, ‘Surely you won’t vote for Vice President Biden.’

.

It is a dirty shame how people go up and down this hill at this cemetery here in Whitco. I sure wish they would slow down. If a child were out in that road there is no way it wouldn’t be run over. They act like this is a freeway. I sure wish they would install some speed bumps here. Maybe that would slow some of those drivers down.

.

Trump and Putin sitting in a tree … oh wait a minute, I see Mitch, he makes three.

.

I would like to address a few comments I have been reading in Speak Your Piece. There has been a whole lot about religion lately. I just don’t understand why people want to argue about each other and their churches in Speak Your Piece. You should be praying for people instead. The Bible says only God can give righteous judgment. If you ‘judges’ aren’t careful, the Good Master in Heaven will be judging you and He may say, ‘Step aside, I don’t know you.’

.

I think we need to make all meth cases federal cases with a minimum sentence of five years for possession of one-tenth of a gram and up. And I mean for all five years to be served, not any less.

.

If you think Appalachia is depressed, look at the ratinfested city of Baltimore, which reportedly has lost about 400,000 residents over the past few years.

.

I hate it for the coal miners who have lost their jobs, but they made big money for years. I also made big money when I was a coal miner. Do you think those miners who are getting all this sympathy and publicity would care if it was the people who work at Hardee’s, McDonald’s, Letcher Manor and places like that who had lost their jobs? No. Not for a minute. I think we have our priorities in the wrong place. Let’s think about the little people.

(Let’s hope everyone is able to stay employed, no matter how ‘big’ or ‘little’ that job may be.)

.

Regarding the story on meth suspects facing federal charges, I am pretty sure Danny Bob Collins and his daughter were arrested by former Letcher County sheriff ’s deputies Alicia Congleton and Sydney Fields. I used to work for Sheriff Webb, and everyone knew those two put a lot of time and effort into that case and made the arrests. Just wanted to make everyone aware of that. They were even awarded a couple of citations for their duties in association with that case. I appreciate your time. Thank you.

(Thank you for calling. The story did point out the involvement of the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department in the March 2018 arrests. A photo showing the deputies receiving awards for their work in the case was published on the front page of The Mountain Eagle late last fall.)

.

I’m afraid these strikers over here in Cumberland are going to end up in trouble. All it would take is a flirty woman and a man with a hot head. Just mark my words.

.

Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. God loves you!

.

From the boys in 137. How’s the world, even with the whole crew gone? No bull. All of our good old girls are down, too, with the exception of some who are ranging tough out there in the free world. We’re proud of ya’ll. Stay free and hopefully we’ll all get back with the ones we love and life will be good and stay that way, the way it is meant to be. Everyone write and say hello, we’re always here until closing time, which is never. Back at you soon, Kentucky Ridgerunner.

.

Today’s social and political problems, with crime being rampant here in the USA, were solved in the days before the advent of the Ronald Reagan administration. During the Reagan years there were several unfortunate changes brought about by his administration in effort to save the taxpayers’ money for the upkeep and support of maintaining a nationwide network of insane asylums designed to keep the unwanted, insane and mentally impaired people out of the normal everyday life of the general public. After President Reagan disassembled the federal program, a control system for the care and maintenance of the afflicted people who cannot live under normal, civilized, normal conditions, was tried. It failed. Now the network of such hospitals does not exist in the USA. As a result, the unity of the American society has begun to downgrade, which has brought about a very bad crisis in the USA. It will destroy the United States if the citizens do not wake up and realize where they are. The only hope for the USA to survive is to revive the hospital establishments for the insane. God help America.

It just amazes me that a judge will consistently make jurors and other lawyers sit for almost an hour, every day, because he doesn’t feel like getting to court on time. He sure won’t be getting my vote when election comes around.
