— In observance of the Jenkins Centennial celebration, Charles Dixon spoke at the Burdine Campus of Jenkins Independent School. Dixon was mayor of Jenkins for four years and was a history teacher for the Jenkins school system for more than 30 years. He visited all the classrooms and discussed the history of Jenkins. He also gave each child a “flicker”, which is a small metal disc with the Consolidation Coal Company logo. The discs were tossed into the train cars as they left Jenkins for identification. Also pictured is Principal Stacy Collier.
