Spelling bee winners

The district spelling bee was held February 19. Each Letcher County elementary school and middle school was represented, with student on grades kindergarten through eight participating.

First-place finisher Brooke Saurer, a fourthgrade student at West Whitesburg, will compete in a state spelling bee in Louisville this month. Other winners were:

James Craft, second place, eighth grade, Whitesburg Middle; Megan White, third place, eighth grade, Fleming-Neon; Israel Terry, fourth grade, Arlie Boggs; Breanna Klopp, seventh grade, Beckham Bates; Kevin Adkins, sixth grade, Cowan; Tara Chadwell, seventh grade, Letcher; and Andrew Mullins, Martha Jane Potter.
