State to replace bridge at Ulvah

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has plans to replace the bridge on Watts Drive (County Road 1376) over the North Fork of the Kentucky River at Ulvah in Letcher County.

A Public Information Meeting is set for Tuesday, June 26, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Perry County. The church is located 1.5 miles south of the project.

“People can stop by any time between five and seven,” said Keith Damron, Project Manager. “This meeting is set up as an informal session to present to the public the latest preliminary plans for the project. Handouts with project information will be available, as well as comment sheets, and displays showing the project plans.”

Damron said that representatives from the Transportation Cabinet and Highway District 12 will be at the meeting to answer questions. Written and oral comments will be accepted during the meeting and up to 15 days after the meeting at the District 12 offices in Pikeville.

“If there is anyone who wants to attend the meeting who has some physical condition that makes special accommodations necessary, please contact Diana Elswick no later than June 18 so that we can make appropriate arrangements,” Damron said. Elswick can be contacted tollfree at 877-433-7791. The local number for the Pikeville District Office is 433-7791.

“We hope that everyone interested in this bridge will come by during the meeting. This is the public’s chance to have their questions answered and to put any concerns, ideas, or objections into the formal record of the project. We encourage everyone who uses this bridge to let their opinions be known,” Damron said.
