Stolen military markers still need to be claimed



Two stolen military grave markers still have not been claimed by family members and remain at the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Office.

Ten bronze grave markers stolen from cemeteries in the Isom and Jeremiah areas in September have been returned to family members. The grave markers that are still unclaimed have the engraved names of Hobert Ison and Mildred Adams Stamper.

Letcher County Sheriff ’s Deputy Eugene Slone said the markers can be replaced at no cost to the families.

The sheriff ’s department is working with the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs and Appalachian Monument Company in Mayking to replace the markers.
