Stolen welder found after stop on U.S. 23

An industrial welder that had been reported stolen was recovered by police this week after a traffic stop on U.S. 23.

Sgt. Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department said the welder belonging to EMATS, a natural gas construction company, is valued at more than $7,000. Damron said one person has been arrested in the case and that other arrests are pending.

Damron said other welders were stolen from gas companies near the end of November. Damron said the investigation is a multi-agency effort between law officers from the sheriff’s department, Jenkins Police Department, Kentucky State Police and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement.
